I heard someone once say that Russia's problem is not that it is under developed but mal-developed. As industrial developement was governed by politics rather rational economic incentives, the developement never corresponded well to real world needs. Not only do they lack economically useful infrastructure, the existant one is in the way.
My grandfather used to be a captive in/around Magnitorgorsk after WW II. They were building bridges etc. Once a russian soldier threw a grenade on the frozen lake, and they threw unconcious and dead tired people in the hole, and the flow of the water sucked them in under the ice.
i feel bad 4 some ppl there. and Mr. EVG, how the heck wuld u like 2 live there?!!? ur a moron. u r soooo lucky i dont swear bcause u wuld CRY if i did.
Most of the photos were from Google images. I definitely had a difficult time finding specific images of Magnitogorsk on the web or anywhere else for that matter. Thanks for the input =)
that's funny a "greedy capitalist" idea increased productivity when the socialist style system was an obvious failure LOL.... :D

Half of all - delusions. Another propaganda on the subject - in Russia everything is bad.

Great information, thanks - but wasn't Magnitogorsk conceived as a product of the five year plans? As in, it wasn't even founded before?
Must've read something conflicting somewhere else.

All of the photo material can be found in the internet. Some of the photo's are not from magnitogorsk or even russia. One is from Budapest 1956.
