Classic footage right here! Nice Upload, brings back alot of memories. Jim McKay was one of a kind , there will never be another like him, or another show like Wide World of Sports.
Thank you jim for all those wonderfull saturdays. It was not a saturday untill wide world of sports was on with jim mckay. Jim was so great he could make a turtle race exciting.Rest in peace and thank you.
I grew up with this voice. Jim was the best at what he did. Good or bad he made you feel as though you knew him and he was talking right to you. Weather it was the terrorist killings at the games in 72' or doing bull riding in Texas it was always done with class. Thanks for the memories Jim......you will be missed.
Unfortunately, ABC WWOS has been replaced by Pay-per-View (as if paying for cable was not enough!). When the Baby Boomer generation got into power in the tv networks, it was the beginning of the end for free quality sports broadcasting. With their cut-throat sensibilities and penny-pinching, bean-counting mentality, these despicable ASSHOLES have (and continue to) take away everything that was once free and make us pay layers of costs (cable, ppv, etc). Sickening.
If anyone has any Original Wide World of Sports shows just PM me

And sadly there won't be a 50th anniversary in 2011 due to the restructuring.

True story... Muhammad Ali wanted the autograph of the athlete who suffered the agony of defeat. That was pretty awesome.

Other networks have similar programs such as NBC Sportsworld and CBS Sports Saturday/Sunday, but none of them could match ABC World Wdie of Sports.

Jim McKay was the first voice heard on Baltimore TV in the late 40's as WMAR-TV Channel 2 signed on.
