Jerry passed me for my black belt. I had to break two boards one with hand technique and one with kick. I punched and broke my two boards and did a round house kick to break my boards with a kick. It is easier to do an elbow and a side kick to break but I refused to do it the easy way. I passed and he autographed my boards too.I also had to perform my form and free spar to pass. Taekwondo has the most awesome kicks of any martial arts IMO.
no waist of talent and what he did shouldn't be compared to muay thai, etc. american kickboxing was the sport of the time. PKA was what UFC is today and jerry was one of the best. he transitioned into a successful career in acting after fighting. he's truly one of the best kickers to grace the ring (no matter what kind of fighting).
PKA "full-contact karate" ( a high-falutin' and VERY inaccurate name for "kickboxing") was never very interesting, despite the best efforts of Wallace, Smith, Franks, etc. The fighters (with some exceptions) tended to be mediocre boxers and CRUMMY kickers. Re. the latter, I saw a LOT of fighters throwing that half-assed semi-round-semi-front kick to register their six kicks ASAP. The very best -- those who combined good kicking with good boxing -- were perhaps 5 percent of the total.
jerry trimble was a fine athlete. Fast, strong and with tons of endurance. Usually "flashy" dudes can't take that much damage, but trimble was solid as a rock.
Never met him, but my Dad grew up with him. (Newport, KY) He used to spar with him as well. The deal was he taught my Dad martial arts and my Dad taught him to play guitar.
I always watched Jerry's fights in the glory days (1980s) of PKA. He was one of my heros. Him and Rick Roufus inspired me to push myself...of course I was no where near their caliber! : ) Jerry was so fluid and artistic, if you know what I mean...his technique was as effortless and natural as it was explosive. I wish I could buy all the old Roufus and Trimble PKA fights. I think that era was the highwater mark of karate fighting. Thanks so much for posting this!!!
In several of these clips, Trimble fights a guy named B.J. Lavota. Trimble beat the snot out of him (breaking Lavota's nose with several sweet spinning back kicks!). Lavota did not stop until the ref called the fight for too much blood! Year's later, my buddy & I ran into Lavota & asked him about it. He said, "Trimble kept sticking his tongue out at me the whole fight. I was so (ticked) off at him. I wanted to rip his tongue out & hang it on my wall." Trimble was an awesome fighter!
I remember watching Trimble fight... You could always expect something spectacular to happen.

SUCH A WAIST OF TALLENT TRIMBLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INTO MUAY THAI .
YES VERY NIMBLE AND ANIMAL FAST REFLEXES ..
LOOK AT THE SPEED AND BALANCE . HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A TRAINERS DREAM ,IF I LISTENED ??

Eh....never liked American Kickboxing rules. I can deal with no clinching on occasion (K-1 Rules)...but no leg kicks? Sweeps?
Anyways, would have been interesting to see him face off with top tier competition.

He's really good with his foot work, I think a better nickname would be Jerry "the nimble" Trimble

Yo...I take TaeKwonDo, and I must say, his kicks are awsome. Especially his spinning hook kick. That truly is "the dragon whipping it's tail."

IrishLuck 3 years ago
He never fought Howard Jackson. (God rest his soul.) Retired undefeated as World Champion means that he never lost a fight as World Champion.
