  • The drummer kicks ass cause he's from Stevie Rays Double Trouble....

  • Saw them in concert this summer in Sedalia Mo. They are masters !

  • I have followed this guy since he was 17 and seen him live 4 times! He friggin rocks - pure and simple. Great rifts. Truly gifted. Noah on vocals compliments perfectly. Once of my favorite groups!

  • oh my!!

  • What a fuckin' beast!

  • Drummer kicks ass too!

  • How he time that sustain end right at the end?????

  • @angus3gc Somebody likely pulled the plug on the amp or he flipped on his Tuner that acts as a cut off switch

  • he should have lit the guitar on fire, oh well i guess we all can't win

  • Stop comparing and listen...awesome player!

  • kenny wayne got SRV and Jimmi's approval...i can imagine them both jamming right alongside him...you just can't see it

  • 2:39 - 2:42 man he jipped that lick off of stevie, but still hes smart to put some of his genuis stuff into also, man kennys a true rocker

  • Just shut up and listen....it's KWS!

  • all you fellas are fighting about whos a better guitar player its a waste of time. it doesnt matter! music isnt a competition they all do it because its what they love

  • Ynqwie Malmsteen also has an incredible cover.

  • Gotta respect this cat ... love the break down which includes Hendrix's Band of Gypsies "Power of Soul". Also, did you notice the cat is playing a lefty upside down!

  • all try to do like hendrix...but they can't..

Why you dont try do NEW SONNNNGS???? NEW RIFFS???? AND A NEW STYLE?

  • Except for the stabbing part, I agree with JohnnyStreets, we need to look at the uniqueness of each artist, not seeking a Clone, how boring would that be. KWS is an awesome guitarist in his own right and no doubt will get better and better. All the blues artist have their own unique style and tone. We are fortunate to have such a veriety of musicians who are up and coming to help carry the torch for the Blues.

  • Besides, since there is no perfect musician, you can criticize all you want, but until you go out and top it, your opinion is worth only what the oxygen used to create it is.

  • @bracemachine09 First, because 30 years ago wasn't "these days." Second because he revived the genre.

  • I LIKE THIS!!!

  • I'm sure there are people out there writing posts that can play a guitar really well. Maybe even better than Kenny, Eddie, Zakk, John, Eric, Stevie, Joe. If you can, I'm happy for you. But seriously, if you can't say something productive and civil about talent like this or any other talent out there then you should really keep your mouth shut.

  • I WILL TELL YOU WHAT IF U CAN PLAY LIKE THAT U CAN PLAY ANYTHING U WANT

  • omg his tone is AMAZING

  • this guy is really awesome.

he isn't SRV or JH, but he still KICK ASS!!

  • i don like it

  • OMG this version made me wanna eat glass when i was about half way through it

  • hey.. is that John Mayers guitar.. ?

  • @kirrehlover That's Jimi's Monterey Pop Strat. I believe Mayer plays a model of it.

  • @kirrehlove Thats a Jimi Hendrix copy guitar

  • stp with the hendrix bullshit, he was never all that great theres been many people much greater then him play over the decades hendrix......sux and thats not hatin thats fact along with this god awful song

  • @godfatherdetailing Hendrix was the most influential guitarist of all time , not only that he was probably the best , and most creative , sorry but you can go take all your kirk hammet , and malmsteen bullshit and shove it back up the asswhole that just said that the man that without which they would never have picked up a guitar sucks! sereously get a life

  • @13Musicmachine sorry princess but i listen to real music and hendrix was not that good, steve vai? slash? stevie ray? non of these guys picked up a guitar because they seen hendrix lay and all of them have more talent in one string then hendrix did full guitar on his best day, nice try junior get a life

  • @13Musicmachine MOST CREATIVE ? Wth, do you think Hendrix invented every single fucking technique out there ? Do you really think he really had all that damn talent everyone talks about ? Truth is, he was good, not extraordinary. Just good. He was the start of something bigger in the world of guitar, but just a start, nothing more. Good songs, really much spirit in them, but you can't say he was a GREAT guitarist. You gotta look up the meaning of "creative", for real.

  • @Vasgarth All of you retards should stop arguing on who influenced who? or who is the best ? So just shut up and enjoy the music!

  • @Vasgarth Can't say he's a Great guitarist?! your insane, when clapton, beck, townsend, bloomfield, brian may, and countless others almost gave up the guitar cuz of hendrix. If that isn't being the absolute top guitar player out there at that time i dont know what is.

  • I believe that everyone, every person as a musician, has their own individual style. This brilliant man here just presented an amazing cover that was full of energy and cool riffs. He's doing it in his own style, his own way. You can't honestly expect him to make it perfect or outmatch SRV or Hendrix.

  • Holy crap if I read another comment like "He sucks because he's not someone else" I'm gonna stab someone.

  • @JohnnyStreets how about.... "He suck because hes not being himself.... hes trying way too hard to be fuckin SRV...... who also is another bitch when it comes to the meaning of this song....."....

  • @codehendrix yeah but hes makeing 20 times more than you so i think hes smart ;D dude he likes playing his own licks to, his stuff is in there but he put some of hendrix and stevies stuff cuz he thinks it sounds good and he likes playing it

  • @JohnnyStreets

    Totally with you.

  • he's not jimi hendrix or stevie ray vaughan he don't even come close stick with blue on black that his style

  • He's got great stage presence (really really great) but his guitar playing is average. I mean, he's not playing anything unique or new.

  • this guy is very good. I am impressed. But Jimmy Page will always be the best blues player in my opinion

  • this guy is very good. I am impressed. But Jimmy Page will always be the best blues player in my opinion

  • no soul

  • Just saw Kenny Wayne in Indy at the Experience Hendrix tour. Dude flat smokes. He can flat ass play. Stole the show from Vai and Eric Johnson.

There are many great guitarist however there is has been only one James Marshall Hendrix. I don't know if there would be a SRV or KWS without Hendrix. To realize how much Hendrix changed the approach to playing guitar cannot be measured.

Hendrix accomplished more in three years playing guitar then has been accomplished since his death.Peace

  • nice , everyone /muscian has their own ways of playin it , the most important thing is they play it !

  • The way he plays it out is really show how he feel the music.

Any one with some experience on guitar would concern that,

    it's not that easy...

  • SRV was able to simultaneously stay true to Jimi's version while also putting his own incredible stamp on it....KWS does nothing new at all....he's a pretty little blond boy with major industry connections playing it exactly the way SRV did....he does it well...but so what

  • @carcariden He idolizes SRV, that's why he plays like him, it's not an industry thing, plus he DOES write his own stuff, give him some bloody credit.

  • @CrazedWolfen my point about the industry was that his connections are the only thing keeping him from toiling away in obscurity as yet another interpretor of SRV's style, of which there are many.... but I digress, lots of people seem to like him so more power all around...it's just my boat that ain't floatin I guess....

  • @carcariden He is FAR away from Stevie's version! But it's nice... - Take a look at JASON BARWICK'S (THE BREW) Voodoo Child at WDR Rockpalast - it's awesome!

  • this guy stands on the shoulders of giants and does absolutely nothing new or original with it....I'm completely overwhelmed by how utterly underwhelming this dude is....he's a Big Mac to SRV's $30 cut of prime rib

  • @carcariden because SRV was so original ripping the song off Jimi? exactly.

  • @ SirFretslide

If you were paying attention you would've noticed that this guitar has a reversed headstock and Mayer's guitar does not.

They are basically both replica's of Hendrix' Monterey Strat.

  • is that mayer's guitar, or did mayer use kenny's in the live at l.a. concert?

  • @SirFretslide

It's the Hendrix guitar from Monterey Pop you fucking idiot.

  • muito bom !

  • Awsome, fucking awesome

  • Kenny Wayne aint tryin to duplicate Jimi or SRV, hes playin it like Kenny Wayne and thats good enough for me, a great guitar man is Kenny Wayne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ending was very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i can only say, holy shit that was awesome!!!

  • That guitar is talking!! You can almost understand what it's saying lol lol

  • john mayer stole this guitar

  • @erikeslindo nahh. john mayer has a guitar like that. its a "crashocaster"

  • @erikeslindo hahaha, no but he has one that's pretty close to it.

  • Can i Buy or Find ;) this concert at DVD ? I want to watch te whole concert.

  • Very Nice :)

  • This is the same strat John Mayer used live for his dvd

  • Great song, great cover! Love these guys

  • Kickass Player I really dig his tone !!!

  • that guitar looks a little familiar. it seems like it should be on fire :)

  • Kenny , Stevie Ray, and Hendricks would be proud of you ! You go boy!

  • It's rock n roll boogie blues at its best... Unbelievable! Watch him go!!

  • Absolutely AMAZING. Go Kenny go!

  • Damn straight it's the blues!

  • what a load of finger flappin

  • 0:44 was kinda lame, just showing off..... but i thought 1:00 to 1:10 was kinda unique. just another feeling as a cover

  • @gjdud12 that lick is take from SRV, so its not really unique, but i get yer point

  • Great show.

  • Kenny is freakin awesome, he is a great guitarist!!!!

  • This guy played better than Hendrix, not as good as SRV, but CLOSE, but he idolizes SRV I don't think he'd try to surpass him, then again why wouldn't one try? it'd be homage to those that you admire/follow.

  • @CrazedWolfen oh no you didn't! Better than Hendrix?? Dude, Hendrix took shits that were more musical and creative....

  • that motherfucker is shredding

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • @bcates007 it's just a song he may not write songs as good but he sure as hell can play em as good as them

  • Comment removed

  • best cover ever.

  • I first saw KWS Band when they opened for Van Halen during the VH III tour...NEVER have I seen the entire place packed for an opening act before, and it was his playing "Voodoo Child" that did it. I'm just gonna throw this out there, and say that Jimi Hendrix would easily say that KWS plays Hendrix better than Hendrix played Hendrix. I even saw Eddie Van Halen at the side of the stage watching this kid play. That's God given talent. You can't learn this.

  • Joe Bonamassa is more technical. John Mayer is a better composer. Michael Landau has a killer tone and harmony knowledge. But man, I really like KWS fire, attitude and power.

  • For all you that keep saying this is not like jimi os Stevie its not he is making it his own ! Kenny Wayne Shepherd rocks i am a big fan and i asm glad some one is not trying to do it like Stevie or jimi he did this song Justis

  • ODD! Guitar is upside-down like Jimi, yet the E string is still on TOP! WTF! Sweet!

  • no credit? he's using a jimi hendrix re-issue

  • I like it!

  • it looks like more of a show for him.

and srv definately gave credit to jimis songs. thats some crap that he didn't.

  • Like SRV this fellow Kenny doesn't give credit to Hendrix thereby like SRV giving the impression to some that it's his song. typical. I'm sure management has had a say in this.

  • i've been looking to see if anybody plays jimi hendrix like jimi. but when i tried kenny i didnt think he could play jimi hendrix better than jimi.

  • God I want that ride cymbal so bad!!!

  • he's great.

  • Really? Im srry Neverdii but KWS is the man! Im not sure what ur talkn bout...no creative licks lol Id like 2 c u play one of those licks at KWS speed. This cover is just as good as SRV if not better and i dont know what youtube u have but on mine no1 comes close. Hater!

  • Kenny is a great player, but I wouldn't say this version matches SRV's, much less the one and only Hendrix. But this is just my opinion

  • @bcates007 imho, not that it matters, I dont think Hendrix's version matched SRV's...

    ...or Mayer's... lol

  • @bcates007 i dont get why everyone loves srv as a guitar player. he must have some amazing solos that i've never seen, because his voice is mediocre and his song writing skills r like generic pieces of country and rock put together to make boredom. so can someone plz show me an actual amazing solo he's played..

  • @bcates007 I kinda hear more of SRV in KWS take here; but than I start hearing bits of Hendrix also bringing me to the conclusion that its somewhat of a hybrid of the two! Regardless, it's a very good impression of Voodoo Child! Another great take of this song is by John Mayer; he used VC sporadically through his last few tours and I was lucky enough to see it live! Very SRV inspired also w/JH in it. Both guys have incredible impressions! /watch?v=Pphe3SPtyUQ Check it out, JM and KWS are beasts.

  • what pedals do he use?

  • For this song the only pedal he should be using is a crybaby

  • Just STFU and enjoy the dang performance.

I love KWS, SRV, and Jimi.

  • he's not trying to be completely creative. he's playing what he loves. nobody else can do what he does. how many other guitarist can say that that. my guess is zero

  • oops. sorry 4 the repeat

  • Dude, you're sad. No creative licks? All I can figure is you're deaf.

  • Repetitive much? Please, if you're going to do a Hendrix cover, go wild! All this was was lots of chord patterns and no creative licks whatsoever! And what happened to the vocal part? An average guitarist could do this...he is just playing the first bars of the song, and adding mild changes to it as he goes along. This is sad...

  • name one average guitarist that could do this. i will go see him or her. ball's in your court

  • @wmc1103

Just type in "voodoo child cover" on youtube, and you will find plenty of people with far better and less repetitive interpretations of this song. SRV, who he is imitating, did a much better cover of the original song. This guy should stick to punk rock, where you can repeat stuff lots of times over and over and it's okay. He posts nothing original in this whatsoever, it's all borrowed. I'm not deaf, I just appreciate guitarists who push barriers more, and this guy does not

  • oh. is that what one types in? believe me, i've seen plenty of people cover that song. its my favorite. he's not trying to be completely original. first, playing it the way he does cause that what touches his soul. it makes him happy, and on that note at least he's not a sellout. he also knows many people love what he plays as much as he does, and we need to hear it. secondly, he gets to show people that he is the only one who can play similar to srv (stevie will always be the greatest).

  • oh. is that what i should type in? dude, ive seen enough people cover that song, believe me. its my favorite. no one does it better than kws. he's not trying to be completely original. hes playing what touches his soul and heart, and isnt selling out. he also knows there are people who need to here it. srv's playing is like a drug, and nobody comes closer to it than kws. hence my second point. he gets to show people how hard it is to play what stevie and him play. look, no one else can

  • Kenny Wayne needs to stop being the latest SRV and get his own style and sound. Gimme a break.

  • Thank you! It astounds me that people can call Mayer an SRV copy when guys like Kenny Wayne Shepherd are around. Kenny is awesome, don't get me wrong, but Jesus Christ.

  • Sorry to butt in here but Jimi WAS incredible "back in the day". I'm from "back in the day" and saw him live, along with Santana and SRV too! Unfortunately, not all together - THAT would have been truly amazing!

KWS is incredible! In THIS day! Hey, tiny person with a guitar teacher without a soul, why don't you go ask Fender to make a guitar for you! This IS fun! ;)

  • That was fun.

  • you mean "the" shit

  • Covering Jimi no longer impresses me. In fact, I'm tired of it. My old guitar teacher told me that his stuff wasn't all that back in the day, and he should know since he was rockin' back then.

  • @Antiks72 Somebody needs to take you out back and shoot you with the shotgun that Jimi shot his woman down with!!!!!

  • Prozac.

  • look up jimi playing this live. When he's trippin in the middle of that song....they aren't too different. Only difference is KWS is (probably) sober, and took "live jimi" approach, instead of the more bland, often heard, studio jimi.

So stfu teletran8, and learn ur history before u blow out shit.

  • I'd say John mayer is not only more overrated, but also more of a douchebag and Hendrix/SRV ripoff.

Kenny sounds sounds like Jimi and Stevie when he's doing covers, but when he does his own stuff, at least he sounds like KSW all the time, while Mayer just sounds like SRV with a little BB King thrown in.

  • That is one guitar playing mutherfucker.

  • dude, thats fuckin awesome!

  • where the fuck is tommy ??!! at least chris is there =]

  • is that blues?

  • @juniorsoldier012 is it not?

  • @juniorsoldier012 Yes man :)

  • @juniorsoldier012 being that all rock (even psychadelic hendrix rock) owes its existence to blues, id say yes, this is blues' acid trippin cousin

  • @juniorsoldier012

    of course it is

  • Amazin way to finish!
