@glummdelclitch Also Judy Collins made a recording of the song; but I don't think either Judy or Peggy puts the emotion (call it overblown, if you like, but I think it is appropriate) into the music and words the way Streisand does. I don't like Streisand in everything, and am not even a real fan of her singing, but in certain songs, such as this one, I think she does a great job.
@meltzerboy .. .Sorry but I can't equate "emotion" with those grating bone-crunching high notes she just can't help making because she always had such a strong voice and nobody ever taught her how to really make the best use of that instrument... The emotion which Peggy and even Joan bring to their performances has a different and a more subtle tone.
@htuomnom She does and so does Sarah Vaughan. But in this case, all three singers are at the top of their games. Know exactly what they're doing. Know how to interpret lyrics. Streisand is worth listening to when you stumble across this song just because you never know if she'll hit the truest emotional tones. This time she didn't.
