  • slave or not these motherfookaz came up with great music and shit they could sing

  • what's the name of this song?

  • Just ti clarify something, Amazing Grace is not a negro spiritual, it was written by a White Guy....

  • @civreal

it sure is a negro spiritual

  • Wow - thank you for this wonderful singing Juares. You have a rich, glorious voice - so special in this world. Your warmth, sensitivity and emotion are beautifully balanced in this fine medley of negro-spiritual favourites. Are you a professional singer - if so, where are you from and where are you singing? Best wishes, Christopher

  • I am reading Uncle Tom's Cabin for school and this shows me just how the slaves felt. though most people wont admit it there were white slaves and alot of slaves were treated like family. some people however treated slaves poorly and it is only these stories that are told in school so it is sad that people don't see the ties that were stronger than blood between master and slaves :(

  • وتطوى الصفحة على أكثر الأيام سوداوية في تاريخ البشرية

  • @eyo288

    whatever that says

  • These songs take me back to my ancestry in the deep south. Where my GrandDaddy used to whip the shit out of his nigger bitch slaves for not willingly giving up their wives to take his seed and make Mexicans.

  • this is operatic and takes away the essence, to me it ruins it, but that's just my opinion

  • I am proud to say I am an African American. I have a very, very rich heritage. None of my people died in vanin. It's all a plan og God!

  • Amazing Grace may not be written by a Black person, but it is the most popular song in the Black Church. It is sung when no other song will do. Yes, a slaver wrote the song, but the melody is truly African. God is amazing to put both the slaver and the slave together to make a song that endures beyond our own foolishness.

  • Amazing Grace is NOT a spiritual!!!! It was written by a plantation owner

  • The words were actually written buy a John Newton, a reformed British slave ship captain. As for the melody, there's one theory that it was an African medley.

  • thank you...after I found that out I never looked at that song the same.

    Ignorance is truly bliss!!!

  • @ChosenRemnant777

actually it was written by a reformed british slave ship captain

  • a slave ship captain that changed his views and wanted redemption after seeing the truth of the pain he caused.

  • I must therefore look for school.

  • i dont care about this arragament, but there is no afro-american folk music here

    sorry

  • They put a classical/opera spin on these songs, thus making them sound terrible.

  • The right thing for us, the descendants of the slaves, is to teach our offspring "responsibility" - to self, family, and nation - instead of teaching "rights." You have no "rights" when you lack what it takes to have rights - like quality education. Let's teach our children respect - for oneself, family, and fellow (wo)men. We must teach them hardwork - African Americans were some of the strongest humans created. Additionally, let's teach them forgiveness - magnanimity is stronger than hatred.

  • Thank you! We definitely need more people teaching this: the importance of duties and responsibility, rather than the assumption of rights.

  • @OneWorldOneDestiny preach, I say this kind of stuff all the time and the black people my age (young 20's) think I'm on some Uncle Tom stuff, forgetting my roots...

  • @OneWorldOneDestiny Or maybe we should stop teaching our children that our accomplishments as a people started with slavery.

  • Very well done! You are totally awesome. Your voice is smooth and rich.

  • The singing of the oppressed doesn't have to be the best singing in the world to be good. I doubt that many slaves sang or sing like classically trained opera stars - they sang and sing authentically, in respect of feeling and lyrics - as a solace to themselves and their fellows. And that's what's beautiful. And tragic. And shameful.

  • Im sorry, but this singing isn't good nor inspirational to me...Jesse Norman or someone else should have been chosen to sing here...Wade in the Water was the worst I've ever heard.

  • im black and I have to say this sucks you need to get some black people to sing the songs

    thanx for trying tho

  • i agree 100%. there is no soul in this shit.

  • as a black southerner, i must say these singers make these classics sound terrible...they need some real old school voices to sing these songs...i know a few from the churches around here who would take you back to the fields...

  • Agreed, these songs have officially been butchered.

  • lol so ignorant, so blind.

  • Get over what? It's a spiritual kid. . . You know, the songs and melodies that my people, and your people, used to sing when songs actually meant something besides shaking your ass and wearing heavy ass chains that mean absolutely nothing. . . Kid, I sincerly hope that you aren't going to grow up and allow your children to be as insensitive as you because, based on your comment, I can say that your sense of freedom is as pale as the color of your skin. . .

  • Hahaha...funny "black people". That sounds so rehearsed. Hear me and hear me well.... It's not eben about the songs man, it's about the struggle smart guy. Not just about "black people", but about the person, about an individual, black, white, asian, italian, whatever. What are you doing on this page anyways if you're so against "black people"? You came on here willingly, no one told you to be here on this page.

  • Excellent video! These songs are the very spirituals that my church (childhood church, that is) song on every Sunday morning (including 'The National Negro Anthem')

    EXCELLLENT VIDEO!!!!!!

  • Im white, and I think there is nothing wrong with honering former slaves, but we must remember that slavery is a thing of the past, and whites today should not be held responsible

  • There is nothing wrong with honering former slaves and whites today should not be held responsible. Its also good to remember that there are people still alive that fill the pain of slavery through family history. Yes slavery ended over 400 years ago but in my life time I remember a black man could not vote, Sometimes people try to make a cut off pont and say you should not bring that up, that's old history. Bringing up the old history help to live with it and move on it's not going away today

  • I BEG TO DIFFER: U.S. slavery ended at the end of the Civil War in 1865.

  • yes, they should be held responsable. because they still maintain a system of mordern slavery, when they send their hitmens to uproot governments, and keep dicatortships their for economic gain. look at congo, angola, etc etc... the white man benefits from non-democratic runnings cos it means easy access for resources. look at what the whites did in nicaragua, chile...yes, they should be held responsable.

  • Not 'the white man', but 'the rich man'. The old dichotomy between oppresive whites and oppressed blacks needs to be realised for the fallacy it is. It is a gross over simplification and, at base, a cop-out. It isn't a racial disadvantage but an economic one, which is shared by millions of white people.

  • Im white, and I think there is nothing wrong with honering former slaves, but we must remember that slavery is a thing of the past, and whites today should not be held responsible

  • Great work! Excellent! Never forget...

  • It's always beautiful to hear my generation picking up the torch and continuing the great tradition that is The Negro Spiritual. It is, without doubt, the basis for all great American music.
