Dirty engine oil does NOT mean that the oil is old or the engine is not maintained. The viscosity of the oil on the dip stick is what to look for. Thick oil on the dip stick when the engine is cold is BAD.
Has the seller of a car moved and you have yet to transfer the title? In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, it takes a Court Order to affect the Involuntary Transfer of a Motor Vehicle Title. A York Mobile Notary can help you establish and maintain a good Administrative record to effect the transfer.
Another tire thing to check. Make sure they match. If tires are rotated and wearing evenly, they are replaced as a set. If somebody replaced one or two, it could be hiding a problem. Two tires of different brands, but the same size, aren't always the same diameter. With anti lock brakes, all wheel drive, or traction control, size can make a difference. You can look at the site for the tire rack and see how overall diameter can differ by checking the specs for different tires.
Check the date of manufacture on the tires too as any tire 6 years or older is going to need to be replaced. There is usually a code on the sidewall that will show the week # and the last 2 digits of the year.
I not putting down this video but most modern oils start turning black after a few uses bacause of the despersant additives to try to minimise the engine gunk
I did not even think of checking all of the four tires. Thank You for this very informative post. If you have time could you post a video detailing how to check if the vehicle you are buying has a steering wheel.
Or the person selling the car. I'm doubting how much/few you can hide, by just changing the oil, after having driven it for 200.000 miles and 3 oil changes.
And guys: we don't have a dipstick for our transmission ... yes, I know the color matches nicely to the curtain colors, but the world is bigger than the US. I heard that somewhere.
