I miss the old NBA from the 1980's and 1990's, where it was Magic vs. Bird vs. Jordan, Dominique vs. Jordan (including DUNK CONTESTS), Julius Erving (Dr. J), Clyde Drexler and Jerome Kersey, Drazen Petrovic (my favorite international player), Showtime Lakers, Detroit Pistons Bad Boys', Celtics Big 3, Stockton to Malone, Pippen and Jordan, Payton to Kemp, Miller's final 8 pts in 9 seconds vs. Knicks, Dennis Rodman's crazy hair styles, Jordan's flu game, and Jordan's 1998 NBA Finals Game 6.
Jut like baseball u cant say mickey is better than the babe or joe d is btr than ted williams..u cnt say jordan is btr than kobe..each era has ther star it started with jerry west than dr j than magic nd jordan now ita kobe nd the future will be durant..it is an opinion who u think is the best i am 21 nd watched jordan and kobe both play i say kobe is the best ever
i missed this all star game. Probably my favorite all star game. Remembering the days, when Grant Hill, & Penny Hardaway were healthy. Missed the 1990s very much.
Omg I just realized, the western starting line-up is almost the 03-04 L.A. Lakers starting line-up!!! Haha Payton, Kobe, Malone and Shaq!!! That is great!
@mistanderson - If Kobe was so flashy during the game, why was he benched the entire second half? He looked like he wanted to cry at some points. He was about to upseat Jordan. If he would have been allowed to outshine Jordan during that game his confidence and career would have picked up a lot quicker than it did.
Dumbass, Kobe played nearly the whole 3rd qt...so wtf are you talking about??? He didn't play the 4th qt because his coach didn't put him in...He is not better than MJ...so stfu!!!
@mangokiller111 What are you talking about?? This was kobe's first all star game and he started! Who ever the fans vote for the most....they will start!
why is there such god worship of jordan? yes, he was the best ever, but it's not like kobe, lebron, magic, iverson, et al aren't spectacular players in their own right. it's not like jordan was or is peerless. he's not bigger than the game. the game exists just fine without him and there are plenty of phenomenal players out there. maybe none of them has the same je ne sais quoi, but can we really say that lebron and kobe (and maybe tmac and vince, once) don't come close?
Are you dumb or what??? MJ changed the game and he made the game what it it is today!! This man got the most scoring titles, the highest scoring avg in NBA History and the most NBA Finals MVPs...He is bigger than the game and most of all the greats agree...the game wouldn't be shit without him...so stfu! No, Lebron or Kobe don't come close to MJ!! MJ is the greatest!! clown ass!!
@Domini478 I agree even Kobe gets 10 titles, its all over for him to steal the #1 spot, history in basketball was already made and its all over. MJ-goat
diegoris23, occasionally I make myself to remind myself of how it was like before I can easily dunk the ball. Just after I followed the training program at | 50 inch vertical(dot)com | - my skills has been improving dramatically and I'm even a starter now! timing retard eliminator
I miss these days. The skill of play has dropped off so much in the NBA now. How can guys call themselves professionals, and not be able to hit a free throw, or mid-range jump-shot.
Did you see that, the first 2 players that is shows giving props to each other in the beginning are Jordan and Malone. Honestly, and I'll probably get a lot of crap from people about this, Jazz should have won the 98 finals. Game 6 was taken from them on so many levels by the officials. Especially the blatent push off by Jordan on his final shot, but I do respect that man and what I could do on the court.
@TheUltimatePike no the 1998 finals was supposed to go to a game 7, I will admit that. and yes, I also admit the officiating in that game was not very well because they took the Howard Eisley buzzer-beating three pointer away in the first half that should have counted. and then they counted a Ron Harper shot clock violation field goal that should not have counted. so in reality, that series was supposed to go to a game 7 and my prediction would be the Bulls winning (from past game 7 experiences)
the reason most people think that Penny's career dropped off so much is because he tried to come back too early to play in the all-star game, so it's sad seeing him here
The NBA cheated Kobe and gave MJ the MVP in this game. It was one of the greatest conspiracies in NBA history, and I'm sure it kept Kobe back a couple of years.
@malcfrost Stop smoking. The East WON. Michael was the MVP. Kobe was just flashy. That case Vince Carter shouldve won it too if the All Star game was decided by Flashy Plays.

..michael jordan is simply the greatest player evr to hit the the nba,.with his ability, skills, heart and passion for the game, undisputed king of basketball,.
How might Kobe career have been different if it had been Lakers vs Bulls in 1998 in NBA Finals and Lakers won in six over Jordan and Phil? I bet the media would have gone nuts!
in that time of all star games...they were competing,,,but now they are just having fun on that games...check 2008 game...in second half they were just dunking and thrown alley oops...the passion for bball grows from year to ear
together the best players of the 00's SHAQ KG KOBE and DUNCAN just fantastic they were young and now they are the vets. good time watching those names.
You know what's funny??? WHO KNEW that SIX YEARS LATER that basically the WHOLE starting lineup for the WESTERN ALL-STAR team would be on the SAME TEAM!!!! Lol'.
The best part I like about this all star game is when Michael Jordan scored the 1st basketball..and the piano plays after he makes it. Like he play for the New York Knicks...And Grant Hill scored the next possession. same thing. :-)
if eating too many burgers and drinking too much booze is counted as an injury... dont get me wrong i love the reignman but he himself destroyed his career...
now this is what i like. i wish they still wore there own uniforms to the all star game instead of those red and blue ones they wear now. i wish the nfl did this for the pro bowl too.
yep you're a young one, lebron james is not better than jordan was at this stage in his career, nor will he ever have the impact on the game that jordans has, but u enjoy ure stars of today who have runined basketball, u lack the knowledge of real basketball, carry on with your juvenile antics of cursing on youtube.
Lebron turns 24 this season. At the same age, MJ averaged 35 ppg and repeated his feat of being the first player to ever record at least 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season. He won the MVP that year and also the DPOY. Since Lebron hasn't done that before he turned 24, he only has a chance this year to equal that feat. Hence he's not "already better" than MJ "back in the day".
CHARLES BARKLEY, GREATEST PF EVER WHEN FIT AND HEALTHY. ¿TIM DUNCAN? ¿KARL MALONE? JAAJJAAJ YA RIGHT LOOK AT THEIR PLAY OFF STATS AND YOU-LL SEE WHO WAS BETTER. AND CHARLES DID NOT HAVE DAVID ROBINSON (probaly second most versatile cente ever, after Akeem), and JHON STOCKTON (second greatest passer ever, and top 3-defender steals per game ever)
Karl Malone is considered the best PF to play the game. But I do have to say Barkley was a beast as well. As for Stockton, you have second greatest passer ever. Maybe you are thinking Magic, but Stockton does hold #1 assists record by a ridiculous margin. Also you said "top 3 defender steals per game ever." Well, per game, yeah, but also the #1 record for steals.
no seriously he actually was MJ cutt him up good kobe only scored on MJ twice MJ got nearly all his on Kobe and in the Game in LA MJ put 13 on him 6 mins then KB never guarded him again til the last minutes MJ was way to much for KB to handle this season KB got outplayed by shandon anderson and chris morris in the playoffs please he was not even a 10th the player MJ was
this all-star game rocks. if not for kobe joining the game. this era rocks. players of today are just like kids in the streets who feels lke they know how to play the baketball. 90's era rocks. by the way kobe sucks!
wow its been 10 years. If someone can download the rookie-soph game in 1998 then that would be ill! Im a raps fan I remember T-mac had a few ill dunks in that game reppin toronto, my 2nd fav player ever alvin williams did well to even though he was on portland at the time..
yeah easy to lose when 2 of those guys were hurt(shaq and malone) and payton was missing every shot he threw up there and kobe was being triple teamed like a bitch in a gang bang plus the pistons were on fire idk if the spurs d could even stop them that year.
Shaq averaged a double-double in that series w/ 26.6 ppg (63%) and 10.8 rpg. Malone was hurt. Detroit held the rest of the team down to shooting under 40%. As the 2004 Olympics showed us, no matter how stacked your team is it doesn't mean that they'll win.
i liked these ASG cuess all the people wore there normal jersys insted of the east and west crap it was jsut every man repping there teams but they stopped at about 2004 i THINK cuess of confusion
80's 90's Where True Legends are born!!!!

Also you said "top 3 defender steals per game ever." Well, per game, yeah, but also the #1 record for steals.

this all-star game rocks. if not for kobe joining the game. this era rocks. players of today are just like kids in the streets who feels lke they know how to play the baketball. 90's era rocks. by the way kobe sucks!

kobe bryant isn't the next michael jordan. michael jordan was the next kobe bryant, its just that he got into the league first.

crazy the west starters were the lakers 2004 team minus garnett haha
requenabrian 4 years ago
Funny that even w/ that amount of talent, they still lost to Detroit in the finals.
jp3813 4 years ago
yeah easy to lose when 2 of those guys were hurt(shaq and malone) and payton was missing every shot he threw up there and kobe was being triple teamed like a bitch in a gang bang plus the pistons were on fire idk if the spurs d could even stop them that year.
requenabrian 4 years ago
Shaq averaged a double-double in that series w/ 26.6 ppg (63%) and 10.8 rpg. Malone was hurt. Detroit held the rest of the team down to shooting under 40%. As the 2004 Olympics showed us, no matter how stacked your team is it doesn't mean that they'll win.

yah i know thats why i said detroit was on fire they took the lakers apart

TRJ22487 4 years ago
