HELL YA I HAVE POOR ATTITUDE!!!!!!! How do you get your law enforcement to shut down a intersection? Ours hands us a doughnut list and orders to quit blocking THIER road. 2 1/2" at 175psi takes care of that though LOL
@509kidde No police assisted us during the response. I think you're refering to two of our chiefs ahead of us closing the traffic light down until we could pass.
@NikofromGTA We were traveling at about 5 to 10 MPH, so the siren seemed silly at that time. Ironically, a few seconds later was when a school bus appeared, which you can hear us talking about earlier in the response about having to look out for them around that time of day.
dont worry about what ppl say..I'm frm a tiny town in Ohio and we are a volunteer FD and we run POV's to scenes all the time bc they can block roads instead of us using our engines and tankers to do it so we can use them more efficiently and using support vehicles is awesome b/c there is so many times we get blocked in intersections bc ppl dont pull over at all and when someone is coming towards a intersection and we need to turn and they dont stop it gets very dangerous for everyone
You guys do the best you can with what you have to work with. I'd much rather have a lot of help on the scene than no one at all. These days volunteers are hard to find. If people don't like the way you do something tell them to volunteer.
Brilliant video, your information well scripted, some of the questions asked by posters are questionable but your answers are full of the correct responces.
@PaganFirefighter yea hope they get yall a q and powercall or whelan siren with two siren tones at once capability! love the q and two tones at once three sirens all it says it get the f out the way lmao
I am not nor would I ever criticise any fire department but I have 3 questions 1 in the early part of the video you show 2 blocker vehicles then almost nothing until near the end 2-- why do US FD's use sirens all the time in this vid for almost the first half your truck is on fairly open flat country where a siren would rarely be needed I can understand in the 2nd half where you are in heavily treed country 3--- it seemms one hell of a long way to travel was there no other tankers nearby
@flammabletube 1st Question: Yes, our one blocker ran ahead of us. You can't see him, but he was pretty much just always over the next curve. Because the camera points forward, you can't see what I would see off-frame. 2nd Question: It's the law here. Red lights flashing, siren MUST be on while in motion. If we hit someone and the siren wasn't on, we'd get a major lawsuit. 3rd Question: Please read video info before commenting. It says it right there; Mutual aid to neighboring district. Thanks.
@PaganFirefighter we actually also have to keep the siren on from leaving the station til arriving on scene, but the driver can switch it off on his own responsibility. So on empty roads (like e.g. at night or when we catch a 'green wave') we do switch the siren off - even in the city
@PaganFirefighter So youre saying its a law so... does that mean ur company leaves siren on at scene when the lights are on and your doing your job at scene? I dont think so, so is it your company sops? i know pa were supposed to use sirens but not told me have to. I just took evoc for fire and ambulance and was told for both the only time I MUST USE SIREN NONSTOP is if im going the wrong way on highway or opposite way on a one way road/street. but who knows always changes anymore
@Moose82690 Hmm. Didn't realize I had to spell it out for some people. Yes, it is our SOP, but it's also (wait for it....) the law in New York State. You're in PA, so the law may be different. Frankly I don't care if it is, considering your hostile tone. Also? You clearly did not read my comment. I'll repeat the part you missed: "Red lights flashing, siren MUST be on -while in motion-" ...See the last part? "While in motion". This is from the firehouse to the scene. Do you understand now?
@Moose82690 So of course we don't run the siren while operating on a scene. That would be stupid. I know my facts, thank you. I took several fire classes that covered many laws that we firefighters must be aware of while actively responding or operating on a scene. Not to brag of course, but you seemed to have wanted me to spell it out for you. That's all.
great video. and at lease they had more manpower showing up in the POV's im a Volunteer firefighter for a small town in Ohio. we have alot of calls where theres guys showing up in povs for manpower. whatever works to get more firefighters and Emt's on scene to help out. Great work stay safe Brother.
When I was a Volunteer Firefighter up here in Brampton (Ontario, Canada), just northwest of Toronto... I would always try to take the Tanker out on an assistance call for another Station, it was always less likely to get cancelled!
Awesome video of a response. Frankly, I'm with you bro. I wish more fire and EMS would run escort with chase vehicles. It would prevent a lot of unnecessary accidents. I'm also in rural fire/EMS and can completely empathise with time, safety, and necessity. You're doing a great job, stay safe out there!
Cool video. Wow. You guys have a lot of ground to cover. You must be upstate. I was a firefighter EMT in Nassau County, (Baldwin FD) many years ago. Calls were much closer. Keep up the good work. Stay Safe.
I loved the gear grind and the "Ouch!" response at 4:40. As a paramedic, I was also happy to see you helping the driver clear intersections ("Clear Right!"). It does not relieve him of his responsibility to safely operate the vehicle, but does help with more eyes looking out for cross traffic. Something I always do, and encourage others to do when on a responce. As for the long resonce time, I work in rural Iowa, 15 - 20 minute responses are the norm in some cases for mutual aid.
Dang that's a long run! You could of driven across two counties in Connecticut on a ride that long, lol. Kudos to the driver/operator, we have a 3000gal E-One tanker, they can be quite the beasts on corners... ;-)
Personally I cannot see why chiefs or brigade cars of any sort can't provide escort in every case it would be so much easier for the drivers of the response vehicles
Now this is what i'm talking about. As an asst Chief I would definetly do this on a Extremely bad call. U guys are doing a great job keep up the work and Stay safe Brothers!
Great video. Here in the NW we do not have escorts for the trucks but we are permited to drive our povs to the scene. Most of our first responders live to far from the station to make it on time, so it i easier to go strait to the scene. Anyways be safe out there. PS, I drive truck profesionally and still grind them every once in a while. Take care and be safe.
Good video. I like to watch video made from something moving. O-o, forgot to mention, It was nice tanker (before accident). And one more point - where is "Escort"?
@mun268 The escorts are seen near the beginning when they block the intersection, then the one stays behind us while the other drove ahead. And what 'accident'? There was no accident during this run.
@mhfdprobie No, that's actually water stains on the windshield. I thought that several times while reviewing this video, but I never saw it during the response. Go back to 3:50 to 4:00 and you'll see the stain with the trees before the sky becomes the background.
