  • What you are describing is usually part of a Content Management System as sold by a number of companies. One very good company in London is Mekon. They have a web site. The W3 Schools on the web contain much information. An academic project, the TEI project, is using XML, SGML for conversion of academic and historical documents. Search on TEI or Text Encoding Initiative.
