I love the musical and all but realistically? Evita wasn't really this revolutionary leader. All she and her husband did was take the money away from the rich (making them bankrupt) and give it away to poor instead of creating jobs. This then caused even more inflation and Argentina. Peron also killed off many of his advisors so after he finally fled to Spain after Eva's death the country had no way of dealing with the crisis....
@mandapaige1 The revolutionary leader was indeed Peron. You don´t know anything about Argentine history if you say something so simple as that. Prior to Peron´s first presidential period (1945-1951) the labor rights did not exist at all. Workers were simply slaves, with no decency granted by the reigning legislation. Peron was the first to give unions the real power that still today can bring some profit to the ones in the base of the production pyramid. He gave the people real dignity.
@mandapaige1 He also had to face the hatred of the rich and powerful who saw his fight for equality as a hazzard to their (until then) almighty will, and a tremendous war against Catholic Church authorities, who did everything in their hands to help overthrone him, with no respect for the over 50% who elected him for another period (1951-1957) The military took the power by force causing more than 1000 civilian deaths and exiled him to Spain, he didn´t fleed.
@mandapaige1 He was never indicted to comit murder, so how can you say that he actually killed people? Don´t you think that he should have faced charges if he was taken that way from being president of the nation, having all those powerful and treacherous enemies? Doesn´t make sense at all. One thing you´re right about, and it was the economic situation of the country, but not after Eva´s death, 3 years later. Nevertheless, a military coup d´etát was in no way a better loophole to that crisis.
@mandapaige1 He never had to face charges for murder, although he was taken from the presidency by the military and was surrounded by powerful and raging enemies. He was alleged to have prosecuted opponents and political rivals to jail, but never killed anyone. He went against tabloids that were relentlessly critical, most of the times defending interests of the rich with no care for the naked truth. He never raised arms against the people unlike others who didn´t mind massacre a few or many.
@mandapaige1 Finally I can assure you as an Argentine that no other government (democratic or tyrant) did worse for economy than military regimes. They were the ones to increase our foreign debt to outer space figures. So, if there was such crisis in 1955 (3 years after Eva´s death), the military were not the ones to garantee a fair way out. The powerful and rich men were fed up of Peron´s populistic (no for being this, less important for common people), and wanted to hold the grip again.
This is such an emotional scene, but Madonna sings it like a pop star. I seriously lose all emotion hearing her singing this song kills me. If you really want to hear Evita, listen to the original broadway cast with Patti Lupone. That's an Evita, this isn't.
yes Eva, did everything for the poor and children!! the richard hated her because she tand peron took more taxes out of them no more free ride for the rich, the only thing Evita did wa slike to spend money on clothes etc just like anyother woman, she wanted to look nice for her people she herself came from poor and knew what it was like, and if not for her, Peron would have never been in office s long and as much rest in deep peace EVA
I think Madonna is an example of perseverance, but that perseverance is not always good. For example, in this case, Madonna insisted endlessly Parker for acceptance in the role of Evita. The result is a clear sign of his inability to assume a role as difficult to interpret the dramatic depth and complexity of the character of Evita Peron. I believe that success is not synonymous with talent. Think carefully before "act. "
this movie is perfect so strong to watch and madonna was the perfect evita. they actyually have similiar lifes. hope madonna doesnt die soon. madonna is huge. huge heart, huge mind. shes everything. without her wouldnt have britney gag and those arists
i would love for all the haters out there to grow up the way she did, then die the way she did. she died in so much pain, she work herself to death for the people.
@soccerreadingkid She bankrupted Argentina and died of cancer. This musical makes her look like a better person than she actually was because it's shows the public image of Evita not what was going on behind closed doors.
@Maddie1026 OTOH, the opposition, the anti-Peronists, did everything in their power to discredit her. Anything with her name or initials on it was destroyed, including polio vaccine. She was not perfect, but the oligarchy and military made a mess of things before and after the Peron era. Do you really think that THEIR elections were fair?
After Peron was exiled, the govt made it a crime to possess pictures of Eva or Peron, punishable by death. Sounds paranoid to me.
I love the musical, but the truth is that an entertainer is not a suitable states woman. I shudder when entertainers voice their political views, because few are educated in economics.
@Maddie1026 But that's what so great about the movie. It shows you how easy it must have been for the people to get caught up in that public image of her, but it always brings you back to the reality of it with Che's critisism.

@ruben20001 I have read information ab out Eva, in both pro and anti Peronist books. I'm sorry to say that the cons far outweigh the pros. Her economic policies(or rather, her husband's-- Eva was not a feminist at all, she just blindly worshipped and followed Peron) bankrupted Argentina, and Eva was a narcissitic woman who loved only herself. I'm sorry that you've been fooled by her. Now flame me all you want. I don't care.
@soccerreadingkid apparently he was devastated when his first wife died. My guess is that he wanted Eva for what she could do for him politically, and he wasted all his love on his first wife.
@evaperonfan if you look carefully at peron he is smiling wtf. he rly did love his first wife, mabye he loved eva, but never loved his third wife, AND eva peron was so weak that she fainted after this
@soccerreadingkid@soccerreadingkid right. I think the musical has their relationship on Eva's part wrong, but the way Juan treated her right. Eva loved him a lot, and in my opinion, she was just a tool in her husband's hands. In my eyes, he brainwashed her to do all those speeches for him. She didn't get her own ideas until she wanted to be vice president, and he took that away from her.
@evaperonfan who knows i wished she never died, she did alot. and it sad to that the rich and the miliarty were poping wine bottles when she died, they were happy she died, the poor were sad and angery that she died. they were angery that she died they blamed her

She was not poor by any standard no; but being a Proletarian at heart she gave back enough power to allow even True-Feminism and International-Communism to flourish.

@riverlioness So? It is a mutually beneficial agreement and the way democracy works. you do certain things to get elected or to gain popularity.
