A slave in West Africa could eventually buy his/her freedom if they worked hard enough, they were treated like workers. When Africans were selling their people into slavery they cannot fathom the horror and animalistic treatment that their people were to endure for hundreds of years. West African kings even tried to stop the slave trade.
