Energy Saving Light Bulbs

It's almost impossible to buy filament light bulbs in the UK now. They seem to have been "phased out" so I'm hoarding them! I refuse to use bulbs with mercury in. Hell, I've got enough amalgam in my mouth!!

Go for energy saving halogen bayonet fitting instead of cFL (I agree they are toxic mercury and poor light quality yellow light) I've smashed a few of these cFL myself. I can't read with the light from a cFL.

Energy saving Halogen is a brighter and whiter light. I picked up a few at Tesco. So what do you get for your Energy saving Halogen. 100 watt output in light for 72-75W of power used. 60Watts for 42W of power used.

Hey Izzy...you forgot to mention that the frequencies they give off are harmful (similar to flourescent tubes) and if you are closer than 2 feet from them they can actually burn your skin. Long term exposure at lower levels is cancer forming. The mercury is easily inhaled when they are broken. Lets face it the sickly greeny light is disgusting too! Nice bulbs?...I think not!

We just had a broken eco-bulb but,i wasn't aware of it and my partner cleared up not knowing the risks.I have had a headache and aching limbs for days,blamed it on kicking coffee at first.....then i noticed the broken bulb on a windowsil by where i wash up(at home mum to 4,i wash up alot!).I've been breathing that shit for days as has everyone else!Bulb has now gone,as has my headache.Hope the damage is repairable.Anything i can do to help that you know of?x

Besides all that you say, the lighting is very shitty....much different than the reg bulbs...therefore, I will not be using them.

My work (bingo) has been giving these away as part of a promotion for members, and i thought that was an interesting point from Daliwolf about the fact they tend to cause depression because they are a lot dimmer than regular light bulbs. can't remember what company was the orchestrator of the promotion though

We got these about a month ago in the post..

I have used them and just found they are total crap to be honest..

1: They are 75watts..

2: They are very dim but are STILL using 75watts

3: My normal bulbs of 30 or 40 watts and are much brighter then the "energy saving bulbs" which are actually using twice the wattage of a normal bulb ..

And as you say "easy to dispose of"

December the first. My my.. Is this coïncidence or what?! I'm so glad I saw your vid. I didn't know the were toxic. I already have some installed for some years now.. Pff.. I don't know what to do now really. Maybe change to candles? They know their ways to get rid of toxic waste I guess. They just put their shit in lightbulbs. Guess who has to clean up the mess again? Yeah children for cheap labour in 3th world countries. That's what the energy we 'save' goed to. It's a shame!

ok, well you're right about them being toxic. Some use other chemicals then others, worst chemical used is Mercury. (Am I wrong in stating that or am I right?) But even worse then that, we in America have to switch to those bulbs by next year I think. No more incandescent bulbs for us. (LED lighting is what we should be changing to!) I have had those bulbs for the past 20 years and yes, they do save you money. When they blow I put it in rubbish bin. I am really sorry if they areb bulky for the postman, but hey, that is what they do, deliver post. and the post office do charge a hell of a lot to deliver a letter weighingm a frew grammes when they are not thrown in the river or on the fire. We have had a postman who did that and he got [ptrosecuted and fired. A lot of good that does.
