  • how many people play this game anymore?

  • I usually just use world builder and spam my cities with specials persons

  • I remember once I don't know how but I managed to build an ICBM while the Japaneese just developed teh Samurai.

  • Chariot RUSH!

  • I really need to ask but what is Noble difficulty? I'm really confused. It would also help if someone told what settler or Emperor difficulty is. Great video btw

  • @Galaticwarriors

Each level affects how many bonuses the AI have and how much maintenance etc the human has.

  • @TheMelnTeam Hmmm Now I understand. Thanks

  • @Galaticwarriors Noble is the balanced level of civilization five were the player doesn't have any advanteges over the AI, the settler difficulty is the one were you get the most advantages and the AI is a little more peaceful, Emperor difficulty is a difficulty slightly harder than noble.

  • @TheDpvpp Emperor is 3 difficulties (noble -> prince -> monarch -> emperor -> immortal -> deity) higher than noble. The bonus difference is substantial, but not as big as the jump to immortal or to deity especially (immortal -> deity is comparable to noble -> immortal)

  • @TheMelnTeam Yeah. I couldn't remember were emperor was on the list, and I didn't want to start the game just to check

  • are you at war with any other civs?

  • Do you get resources from all tiles within your boundaries, or is it like Colonization?

  • @kk9man lasers,advance flight,stealth,someothers i forgot

  • Thank you. Yes, all this time I guessed they were saying “anima,” but that’s not what it sounded like. Can’t help but think the developers could have called for a retake with the voice talent, for clarity, if they hadn’t wanted to make a bad running joke. If you zoom in on a repair platform, do you see anything like the Enterprise in space dock?

Sorry about my confusion in part 13: just noticed the resource icons, and the first row is buy/sell metal, 2nd row buy/sell crystal.

  • I wish I could be as confident as you when it comes to declaring war on someone . To me that's the last thing I could think of haha but I'll get better with time and videos like this

  • Can you tell me how to attack a city, I once did but all my troops died sooner and their garrison just wouldnt die. It was like they had an infinite garrison.

  • is that a mod you're using, to let you see multiple units on one tile? or is that something I can adjust in the game preferences. I'm new to the game and that looks more like what I've seen of Civ 5.

  • why the HELL didn't you quarry that stone.how can you build stonehenge without stone?:|

  • my civ 4 broke is it worth getting a new one or getting civ 5

  • @Bhhsboy1 CIv 4 is much better then civ 5 my friend

  • @Adawong69 i didnt bother geting a civ 5 anyway but thanks civ 3 rapes them all

  • Wow, you built like 15 chariots without me noticing O_o

  • Can yyou answer how can I make the UN world wonder in the beggining of the game the UN is fun

  • this is way complex civ 4 i typically getting a bunch of chariots no consideration for resources... or techs....

  • You sound alot like the lets player "A loyal gamer" =D

  • You usually never spend your time to research technology that will give you a religion this early in the game? Or at all?

  • Wow, I'm completely lost, wishing I knew what you were doing. >_> Sorry for letting my noobiness show. I'm just getting into Civ.

  • How do you set a unit production on loop?

  • @CynicalRage by hitting alt or ctrl key (i dont remember exactly which)

  • question:

Does destroying roads actually do anything to the city? because i thought i might be able to 'siege' a city by starving it of resources, but this doesnt seem to be the case

  • @Bronimin

Roads and coast can be part of a trade network. Starving a city of resources never does anything to the military garrison in there, however. A really low difficulty AI might go on strike if all of its commerce is pillaged, but functionally resource starve = useless for war, excepting strategic resources of course.

  • @TheMelnTeam yeah but destroying improvements should starve them.

  • Maybe next series you might want to explain why are doing the things that you are doing instead of just doing them. That would help to teach people how to play rather than have them stare at your video and wonder why you are doing what you are doing.

  • you begin early with fight

  • Why does everyone always go for Alexander first?

  • Cool to watch...about your tech choices thought...why neglecting masonry and horseback riding if you are planning to rush ?

  • @rabejaona

No HBR because I wanted to use chariots, not horse archers, then recover. Masonry makes no sense for rushing at all. It is a wonder tech, and to a much less extent a defensive tech.

  • :) nice advice

  • this is so helpful! really improved my play

  • how to enable to see a picture of "iron or copper, horses.."??

  • This is SPARTAAAA!!! D=

  • Wow, I never realized there was this much strategy in this game. Good job.

  • wonders give you much of culture, and thats a main goal to win the game...

  • Thanks man, this Let's Play is really helping a lot. But why didn't you upgrade your chariots?

  • @GTG145

Chariot rush sounds better than Horse rush.

  • Makes sense. lol

  • I obviously concentrated too much on wonders before !!!

  • What is the bloody point of Wonders if it doens't contribute to winning the game ????

  • Well it produces culture. The great wall protect against enemies and the great library produces science.

  • hah hopefully when i finish all 18 of these ill actually learn how to play this game somewhat lol. Ive won matches before basically off luck having no one attack me and getting techs up to speed. but I dont know any strategies or anything so. Thanks for uploading these=)

  • What are your specs??

  • Those sings that show what everything is like cows and copper how do you enbable that?

  • @TheWarPope

    Ctrl + R

  • Great Stuff, TMIT! I enjoy your posts on civfanatics and to watch someone of your caliber play is even more educational.

    Cheers!

    WilliamOfOrange

  • civ 4 sucks u cant walk on moutains!

  • im still a noob that struggles on noble difficulty. I found alot of these strategies helpful. Thanks for uploading.

  • watch out spartas gonna culture flip.

  • You're only almost a year late for that tip.

  • meh.

  • get the stone earlier man

  • Do you need the original game, or can u just install and start playing the newest versions?

  • sucks for me is that i bought this game with the Complete Edition so when i load the game up it makes me play Colinization...i want to play beyond the sword but i can not find how to switch it...help me out plz?

  • I didn't get complete...hopefully one of the viewers can help you out :/.

  • lucky...i finally figured it out...if you browse the cd it doesnt say anything about the other expansions just colonization...and it installed it into a "Game folder"....something vista does with all the games you install...weird...totally not used to vista yet...thanks anyways

  • @yolkjj the same thing happened to me with the autorun. you have to go into the program files and launch the expansions from their subdirectories. just keep clicking on potential launch applications until you find it.

  • go into start all programs civilization IV and there are four games normal, warlords, beyond the sword, and colonization colonization is it's own game not an expansion load beyond the swords to play the regular game+expansions

  • @yolkjj I had the same problem. Here's what you do. Go to My Computer/C:/Program Files/2K Games/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization IV Complete/Beyond the Sword. Find the .exe file "Civ4BeyondSword", make a shortcut to it on the desktop (to make it easier to find next time). Then run the .exe file. Enjoy! :3

  • @yolkjj don't play with the CD in, look for the games on your harddrive.

  • @yolkjj you have to go search the folder 2k games in your computer and pick every icon (civ iv, civ iv warlords, civ iv beyond the swords, civ iv colonization) from the 2k games folder and put theme on your desk. To play the game you want click on its icon! Hope I helped

  • @yolkjj

    Are you on vista?

  • @yolkjj instead of going to the starting icon on your desktop, go to My Computer, find the files for civ 4, and go directly to Beyond the Sword. If that doesn't work, you can un-install the game, re-install it but DO NOT install Colonization. Hope this helps

  • @yolkjj same here

  • @yolkjj I hope this is still useful. You can manually choose to play any Civ game by manually entering the folder and clicking on the .exe files. Of course, if you autorun you get colonizations.

  • @yolkjj I was wondering if you figured it out by now? you should be able to get in game explorer and find it there.

  • @james64468 yea i found out how to do it right after i posted that comment lol...my friend told me how vista keeps all the games in a different folder s o i could go in that way...thanks though sorry i didnt reply

  • @yolkjj

Pull the files out of the "Games" folder. Or just go to MyComputer>C:>Program Files>2K Games>Fireaxis Games>Sid Meier's Civilization IV Complete

The apps are in the main folder and the folders marked Beyond the Sword and Warlords.

  • @yolkjj I got the full edition from steam, I play beyond the sword by going to the library in steam and choosing "Civilization IV: Beyond the sword" You may need to download it and install it if u haven't already.

  • @yolkjj go to program files, go to 2k games, firaxis game, civ4 complete, civ4, then civ4 bts, or warlords folders, and you can open the games, and play

  • @yolkjj, Did you ever get an answer to this question? Beyond the Sword can be found either on your desktop, if you allowed the shortcuts to be placed, or in the start menu. All three have separate icons.

  • @yolkjj if you go under the start button in the bottom left corner of the main page when u start your computer, it should be under the file where all your files for civilization are saved.

  • i really want this game, but my friend says that civ 3 is better since you dont have to worry about religion. is religion that hard to deal with? please help. Civ 4 or Civ 3. which one.

  • IMO civ IV is better and more dynamic. There are more ways to win and you are forced to evaluate each start differently (civ III relied heavily on infinite city sprawl) It's true that IV is more complex, however. It's worth the learning curve IMO.

  • yup also, in earth 18 monty always kills rosy, i got a map and sure enough they captured boston.

  • @kevgood12 play both find out for yourself

  • meh, alexander sucks, montazuma is ok, isebella sucks as well, ceazar i never met play against

  • Civ IV is awesome but our class at school play this 10 times slower than how you play

    BTW... Your good at it

  • You're the only Civ walkthrougher whose voice I can stand. Sweet video.

  • Kick their Ass XD

  • You keep saying these are instructional but you all your really doing is playing and not explaining much. I know the basics of the game but I suck. I was hopeing this would at least show me how to be better, but it's doesn't help at all.

  • Agreed, i think his attention was to explain things but then forgot and got carried away with the game.

  • wat do u guys think is the best starting tiles?

  • Irrigated corn. Pig is pretty good too.

  • wy do i need a microfone if i dont have he says microfone disabled wy?

  • should I get this game or spore galactic heroes

  • Definitely this, such a RUSH!!

  • this game for sure, spore is ok but this game sucks you in more (which is bad if you need to work or something)

  • this game is way more fun then spore... spore looks cool, but it gets old faaaassst... and ull prob never play it again after u get bored of it lol.

  • Haha. No, you won't get many A's, although the game has a built-in encyclopedia that might be nice for leisure reading.

By the way, most any youtube video that starts out with the phrase "let's play" is going to be a person playing through a game.

  • What a pointless comment.

  • There any navel unites in this game anyone plz answer

  • yep

  • Yes. Battle ships, subs other various naval units.

  • yep galleys all the way to navy SEALS

  • what do those working boats do for you again

  • they fish for you almost like workers exept they dispand when catch some fish or something else

  • I have a question. Well, first of all im relitavily new to Civ 4. I played and LOVED Civ 3. 3-4 is a BIG change. anyways onto my question...

Is there a way to increases hammers on forests, but I don't mean if it's on a hill for mine. Is there anyway, and is it worth it?

PS I LOVE your videos. :)

  • Without chopping, you have to wait for replaceable parts----> lumber mills. Chopping or not is a ROI evaluation. Doing it can let you set up cities or attack more quickly, while getting replaceable parts for lumbermills might be stronger long-term with health and whatnot.

Most advanced players chop their grassland forests, and will conserve plains forests unless needed for chops. Definitely conserve most tundra forests.

  • If you make a really bad turn, would it then be considered lame to revert to a recent savegame?

I do this now and then, but I'm still a beginner (been playing this game for 4 days).

  • It's a little bit cheap, but it depends. Reloading just because you lost some units is iffy. Reloading many turns back after you know you lost can be a tremendous learning tool.

Truly, in single player it's a question of what you think is best. In multiplayer or when using the HoF mod for submissions to civfanatics, you can't reload anyway :p.

None of my let's play series have involved a reload to date, though.

  • Dude, no offence, but nine chariots vs 3 archers is pretty good, in civ 4 theres strenth in numbers. Thats very important because it takes like 3 chariots at least to kill 3 archers, and he didnt build walls, so you had good odds of defeating him

  • @567hurricane:

Uh, no. Two chariots against one archer = bad odds. Three against one isn't much better. Especially considering that archers fortified in cities are more likely to have had at least one city defense promotion as well, in addition to their base strength AND the combat bonus they receive against cavalry units, I.E., chariots.

  • 2:30 LoL Yeah of all the world leaders she da hottiest. In Civ 3 She was ugly as HELL!!!

  • XD Sparta got owned like a little bitch

  • When you say chop some units, you mean raising production by cutting forests/jungles right? Just asking not because I'm ignorant of the game, it's just that that's how I do it too if that's what you mean.

  • You only get hammers for chopping forests, not jungle, but that's what I meant.

  • u cant make armys in this like civrev can, thats why i like it more than this one.

  • @philnopatience:

    Well thats a dumb reason.

  • That's the problem I have with Civrev. Civ has never been about beating the crap out of your opponents. While that is an option, Civrev focused too much on military, and not enough on actual civ building, which is where Civ4 excels perfectly.

  • By using it for an academy, settling at low slider, getting gold when expansion is at its most painful, or to bulb and trade technologies ---> early great people make higher levels so much easier.

  • What is so important about an early great person?

  • ROI from early GPP. If, for example, you run a bulb strategy (though I've yet to showcase the potential of this in my let's plays), one scientist in your GP farm is worth 30-50 beakers/turn after bulbs.

The output is crazy...and the way most of the deity players manage to win at that level.

  • Yeah after noble they get bonuses. I apologize for the confusion: they tech slowly compared to what I'm used to seeing...still fast by the standards of difficulties below monarch. It affects what techs you'll want to research when.

  • I like your insights, but you mentioned that the AI techs slow on monarch? I though they started geting a bonus in everything after noble

  • wow small map

  • actually the map will get bigger once you expand out, and finally see the entire world.

  • NOT SPARTA

  • Border pops occur when your culture spreads. The first border pop takes 10 culture, and is necessary to work all the possible tiles around the city (unless you have enough culture from other nearby cities)

  • Sry for the noob question, but what do you mean by border pop?

  • Too bad you couldn't kill off Alex. Well, next video maybe.
