  • We have nearly worn the library computer out watching this one! All time classic.

  • but it looks 'cool'...tho...

  • in a long run will those shelves & racks last

with tons of books and keeps on moving like that...

n i think it can be implemented in big libraries n a lot of money to spend...

  • he he... looks like playing the piano with shelves and books... awesome!

  • those selves would be terrifying to get stuck in between

  • Can you imagine how much energy this thing eats to move so many shallows just to take one book???

    Save energy! Use Internet!

  • It all depends on the friction. Trains move hundreds of tonnes efficently due to low friction.

  • I believe when the library is open all the shelves are extended; they're only closed when the library shuts down for the night. So they're not constantly opening and closing just to get out a few books.

  • watch the video again

  • @flameraven42 nope, actually anyone can open them any time the library is open to get a book out.

  • Wow... that must have taken forever to do!

  • It wasn't too bad :D

  • Wonderful!

  • This is awesome... I study down there all the time.... very creative:)

  • What school or place is this?

  • The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee library.

  • On the campus that I go to they have these. The only thing is that ours are newer so they have a buncha sensors everywhere. In you walk in directley behind someone then quickly jump up to about the second shelf, then have the person walk away while you stay. The other person can close the shelf on you. The only thing is you have to trust the person, cuz if they dont like you and they just closed the shelf, well.... ur screwed. lol

  • Really nice job. I can only imagine how it was editing all that...

  • I loved it. Great job!

  • Great stop frame animation

  • Excellent work! A fellow library...

  • This is really wonderful

  • superb.

  • You are BloggersChoice's best creative idea. Keep up the good work.

  • very creative

  • Spacesaver Corp in Ft. Atkinson, WI made the shelving. They are pretty good at that sort of thing...probably the best in the world.

  • Wow very nice! And extremly creative!

  • this is still superly awesome.

  • this is pretty cool

  • You must had time on your hands.

  • It's so many levels of awesome it's like a Napoleon! But what is the music? I can't read the title...

  • Mozart. Rondo Alla Turca.

I put in the titles for a broadcast size, so they ended up really small for this size.

  • Yay! Someone who thinks compact shelving is as cool as I do. Seriously, I love compact shelving. They're fun to play with as long as no one gets crushed.

  • I agree, that was awesome - I'm telling all my friends about it. Hehehe.

  • Thanks for all the lovely comments, everyone!

  • Bibliographic kinetic art rescuing the library from the trite image of quiet refuge of the bookish. I can see this video on display at MOMA or the Hirschhorn. Kudos!

  • Great! yay! Library videos! I found myself actually feeling a little PAIN for the stacks as they moved back and forth so many times. If that was my library i would have kicked you out.

  • blasphemous! why would you do that with what appear to be SCIENCE books. just kidding, i'm going to go blog about this now.

  • That's so awesome!

  • You have too much time on your hands...

...to do such awesome things with!

  • Wow, this is just brilliant! I was just looking for library related videos ( I'm a librarian ) and I came across yours. That sure took a lot of time to put together! Great job. Have a nice day! L in Illinois

  • I have a couple library related videos too, but they're no where as cool as these!
