I actually watched this for the first (and last) time recently. This is one of those situations where you hear so many horrible reviews for a film, that your expectations could not possibly be any lower. That being the case, I enjoyed it just enough to not want to rip out my own eyeballs with grapefruit spoons. Yes, it is one of the worst scripts ever, but it had a few moments that did make me laugh. Of couse, I had been drinking a bit so I am sure that helped.

If you like Jack Black then this movie is very funny. Critics just can't stand to give praise to films with gross out humor because they feel it is beneath them. Yes, it does have some disgusting jokes, but they are few, the bulk of the film is silly characters doing silly things. It is not going to win any awards, but it is simple fun. I was expecting it to be bad with all the reviews like this, but I enjoyed it a lot and never felt regretful. Maybe because I left my ego at the door.

another thing i want to add is ppl dont like the movie becuz jack blacks being jack black. anybody thinks that is fucking retarded becuz 1)the movie would be horrible if jack black was all serious and acting something that he is not, that wouldve been boring! and 2) ppl are getting tired of jack black being himself, just like any other movie he has done mostly (being himself). And it attracts me because i want to see jack black humor.

I ordered this on PPV a couple weeks ago, and I found the movie to be pretty funny, it wasn't great but not horrible. Maybe, I had really low standards for it or what. But the movie did get boring and seemed to drag towards the end.

I'd give it a Rental. I laughed at a lot of the stuff, including the Sodom and Gomorrah jokes.
I like when religion is tweeked and so I'm biased for anything that mocks Bible thinking.
But this wasn't Life of Brian quality. It had a lot of misses mixed in to a smattering of funny.

Bad movie. All toilet humour, although relatively decent toilet humour. Jack black is starting to piss me off because he acts the same in every movie. I saw rental.

Are you kidding me? It's a directing masterpiece. Jabe isn't acting like a frat boy, he is acting as an innocent simpleton. It's a bad movie because of it's humor? It's a comedy for fuck's sake, You Don't Mess With The Zohan was filled with toilet humor, but you can't possibly ignore the political humor. That's just what you did here (not that Year One has anything to do with politics, just religion).

I didnt like You Dont Mess Wth the Zohan much either... I thought it was going to be a lot better. I enjoyed stuff like the Hangover and Zombieland. The reason i dont like this toilet humour is because it was so immature that it wasnt funny. Like him eating his own shit or pissing on himself? That was funny when i was 9. The girl rubbing the pole as if it were a penis? Eh, funnier, just not that clever. And this did not satirize religion that well other than the circumcision scene. Rental

If you like Jack Black then this movie is very funny. Critics just can't stand to give praise to films with gross out humor because they feel it is beneath them. Yes, it does have some disgusting jokes, but they are few, the bulk of the film is silly characters doing silly things. It is not going to win any awards, but it is simple fun. I was expecting it to be bad with all the reviews like this, but I enjoyed it a lot and never felt regretful. Maybe because I left my ego at the door.

i thought the movie was clever. Very funny. It put a lot of things in perceptive, the characters regardless of the stupid comedy had real chemistry.
I don't want to see another Scary Movie 4. This movie deliverers, I love the jokes. I really though I was going to hate this because of it's predecessors, but to the contrary it's witty and very entertaining.
They took the time to emphasize. You guys failed on this review.
I more serious approach would of sufficed, including the jokes.

I think you need to like the humor of Jack Black.

I thought they were funny in a few reviews, so I subscribed. Now I'm undoing that, because I came to the conclusion that they just check movies' ratings on Metacritic and review them based on those scores. They're not authentic like Roger Ebert. Grow some balls you fuckin nerds, and say how you really feel about the movie. Every movie they reviewed was the same average as in MC. That's some ol' bullshit.

That doesn't make sense because they gave fast and furious 4 full price and it only got 1 star. they gave the savages rental when it got 3 and 1/2 stars so get your facts straight asshole.
