Doom, 7th Guest, Day of the Tentacle, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Quake, and Realms of the Haunting are the greatest DOS games I have ever played...
Don't hate me, I have most of the games, and was a teenager in the 70's and in my 20's in the late 80's/early 90's so was around in the games stores talking about the "latest games" like X-Com and buying them and taking them home and playing them! I have kept evry game I bought, so have all the (now) classics! :)
Somehow all those covers seem ten times as awesome as the covers nowadays (with exceptions as always. But just compare one of those for a... bloody Modern Warfare cover!). And that's just about covers.
I'm thankful I lived at the times when DOS was still in use.
Fail. I hate most modern mainstream titles and as a matter of fact I grew up with an Atari 2600, Amiga 500 and a 486 and I use DosBox almost on a daily basis. :P
Ye olde DOS version of 'Last Half of Darkness' was the best. Somehow, it was creepier back then. Blood and Shadow Warrior were great (especially Blood). Flashback was probably the best rotoscoped game ever made. Why is Caleb not as famous as Duke Nukem?
Even to this day, I still own all kinds of CDs, little and large Floppy Drives full of dos games! This video just made me dig up some of my old titles, gonna have some old school fun now!
This is why I love sites like GOG.com. It gives me the chance to experience games I never had the chance to play when I was young, being poor growing up in the 90's as well as reaquaint myself with some of the DOS classics I was fortunate enough to play. The DOS games even come with pre-configured DOS-BOX so I don't have to do it manually. I love GOG for keeping DOS gaming alive.
@arion2064 Thanks to DOSBox the bigger names and CD titles will be remembered for a very long time, although the more obscure or faded out titles are being forgotten daily; especially all those shareware games of the day that WEREN'T by Apogee or Epic Megagames. Anyone remember Jetpack?
DOS may be gone but it has left its mark on the planet and the consciousness of humanity through games that terrified, awed, frustrated, and staggered us all. These were our electric dreams, our cyber nightmares, and new horizons for our minds to explore.
Thank you, Joblo, for keeping these memories fresh and sparkling, as they should be.
hey does anyone remember a game that you can choose one of three players, one was a cowboy that was attacked by bulls and snakes, the second was a thief, with that you have to search for treasures and gold, and other one was a diver, you were attacked by sharks, hope you can help me
variety , yes. but DOS was just not made for games. Origin had to create almost a new OS(voodoo memory manager) just get ultima 7 to work on cutting edge 90s PCs. CPU became faster every few months and microsoft was just too damn fucking slow to make good use of that. i'm surprised apple didn't beat PCs at gaming during that period.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I've been a gamer since 1971 when I played Pong in a bar in Okinawa. I've played almost all of those games you showed and still have many of them. At 59, I'm still gaming.
im pissed! why cant they make DOS 2010 or something :( i run a virutal dos and i love it :D dos is waaaaaayyy better than mac os, windows and linux together!! since windows 95 and 98 was dos based there ok but not good enough :( sorry for spam but i realy miss thoose days when there were no fucking facebook or msn!
I was expecting a big N O T !!!!!! a the end of that video, especially when there have been over FIVE MILLION DoSBox downloads!!!!!
Ingenious use of box art, where did you get them from? Brought back a lot of memories, and i still have some of them (all the LucaArt games for example!)
I got like three discs of all kinds of old DOS modes not modes games... Even some European DOS games.
