  • I use both 50D and 5Dmkii - love them both

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • can the 5d mark Ii shoot in 24p?

  • @happyfoxproductions Yes and 30p but no 60p

  • @happyfoxproductions with the new firmware update that came out years ago you can now.

  • I love my 5D Mk II, BUT.... the standard of fit of the genuine Canon battery grip is appalling! It wobbles and flexes sooo much it is not feasable to mount the camera on a tripod when the battery grip is fitted.

Also, the fit of all my brand new L-series lenses on the camera lens mounting flange is very loose and floppy, not tight and secure like all other Canon bodies.

Google "lens falling of 5d MkII" and read more on this.

  • The Best Camera

  • @TEAMWHITTINGTON i believe the difference in between what is semi pro and professional is little now. d7000 is perhaps all we need. check out... freedslr(.)com remove () and get a way to bring home a Brand New Nikon D7000

  • watch?v=d7uQHvqr6k0 This professional music video clip made with 5d mark ii in January 2011. Director: Altan Dönmez

  • LOVE this Camera. I have one. Cost a nice grip of change, but well worth.

  • I found one of these...literally found it...earlier today. I don't even know what the hell it is LOL

  • @smittyboy007 wow lucky you, i wish i could afford one

  • god damn 21 mpixels

  • if i had this camera with no insurance, i woldnt dare walk on the street with it :P

  • Canon let THIS GUY in the door? Really? He can hardly even talk. What, he's got some kind of nervous condition or something?

    Very very poor presentation!!!

  • Just hope the mark III will have 8fps+. Then i will seriously be thinking about buying one.

  • There are many of us using this camera for it's video capabilities. AF isn't relevant. Any good operator has his camera on full manuel. i don't know about photographers though. You guys seem to like to give these creative controls over to the camera.

  • 2:48 he says FUGGIN

  • No, he doesn't. He says, "IF I CAN show you that there". It's called a British accent.

  • @W0LFVISI0N if i can show you that he says...at first i tot de same thing as oyu...LOL

  • @W0LFVISI0N

If I can show you that there...

  • @Xtrmn8r123321 the accent.

  • I want a 5D mark 3!!

  • there is no Mark 3 lol

  • @LivingForLOL not gonna be announced until like march 2011

  • i just found new bodies with standard lens for 1855 . DOes that sound too good to be true?

  • Euro's or US dollars? Where did you find it.

    Thanks

  • Red better come out with their Scarlett ASAP or it's all over for them.

How much is this camera?? THey say in one vid that its 2600 but on ebay they're trying to sell these for 3500.

  • Check the net. $2250 - $2500 for the body.

  • af speed has alot to do with the body thats why olympus has the fastest autofocus with a 2.8-4.0 lens in the world faster than any ''pro'' body camera ever made

if you dont belive me look up olympus E3 with 12-60( 24-120=35mm) lens

cameralabs has a video on youtube

on the E3 and it shows how fast it is

on the e3 and the 520 crazy fast

check out the IQ at pbase oly dosent fuck around

  • we are from brasil and we loved your video ,,,

  • This is a great Forum for DSLR's

  • Nice overview.

  • the reason 21.1 mega pixels is to be able to make huge prints, AND BECAUSE OF THAT, and this is something you hacks out there don't realize, is that if you AREN'T making big prints, the picture quality is that much sharper because of how compressed everything is. Common sense people. Seriously.

  • i just dont understand there cost points

the 5d mark 2 body is 2700 bucks

the 1ds mark 3 body is 7000 bucks

the only dif is the mark 3 has dual digic

    3's vs 1 digic 4

why not just buy the 5d and a batt grip

full hd vid 21.1 mpx, full frame for 3k

  • 1ds has better AF, better build quality, that's about it though.

  • the camera has nothing to do with AF...

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!

    Sorry, no.

The 1d series has better AF than the 5d series.

  • No the camera has everything to do with the AF. Only the AF-speed doesn't have anything to do with the camera (body) itself.

  • From a lot of your posts, you seem to only compare the price and the most obvious specs.

  • How much is this? $3000??

  • pretty much being sold for $2699

  • I don't want it, I NEED IT!!

  • "WTF r u gonna do with 21 megapixels??"

    Make really big prints

  • Or Crrrrrrrrrrrrrrop.

  • hellz yesss

  • havent seen the price yet but i guess i will have to settle for nikon d90 for now

  • is it worth getting a 1DSiii over 5Dmkii? if price is not an issue, realisticly from a professional point of view.

  • if price is not an issue, just get both!

  • i like the bit where it shows the canon eos 5d Mark II...

    Still, iv got a polarioid...

    POLAROID FTW!!!!

  • i love polaroids!

  • I know, very convenient for porn photos !

  • yay! Mine will be here on tue :)

  • Lucky...

i dont have enough Bucks for this baby so im gonna have to settle with the Nikon D90...

  • is this any good for photographing paintings to reproduce as fine art giclees approx 30x30 inch

  • Get real...it is so far beyond that it isn't funny. My Canon Elph would reproduce your painting beyond what you'd ever need.

  • With Canon, you can´t.

  • Actually you can take excellent photographs for artist reproductions of the highest quality with canon. I do it all the time and it's part of how I make my living. I did it first with the 1Ds, now with the Mark 2. Less uprezz with the 5dmk2. There is a technique to it, of course. You could do it with a lesser camera if you know what your doing.

But to your question, yes, museum quality with a professional printer.

  • dslrcinema dat com

  • Nice, but still slow AF... Not sure if Im gonna get it or just wait for 1Ds IV :D haha

  • is the af the same as the old 5d?

cuz i got no issue with my 5d in terms of af

  • Yepp it's same :D well, the actually af could be faster but if that isn't an issue then It's good to go :D

I will probably wait for 1Ds Mark IV, because I don't like slow AF. But shooting fashion shot and model stuff this isn't any problem.

  • There will be a massive difference in price though!

  • Yeah that's the big minus :S My friend is waiting for it to come to him, should be end of this month.

:D Then Im gonna try it, if I like it then I will buy it too :D

  • lens also determines AF, USM lens have fast pick up.

  • :) Yes, you need good lens, I only buying L-series. But you still get same slow AF on 5D :D

  • Sorry not all nikon are sony sensor some of them are kodak don't misinform your self.

  • you can´t tell a shit from looking at the picture on the cam display....

  • I guess your the only one who don't know where the nikon sensor made from, i will repeat it again nikon sensor was develop by none other than kodak, so presuming its a kodak sensor is this clear enough for you.

  • correction to my word my apology... i "wouldn't" change to nikon not ever in my life time.

  • is he comparing d3 to 5d m2? are you kidding me its not even close the only chance d3 has over 5d m2 is a higher ISO usable range thats it and to tell you the truth i would change my mind or anyones mind to change to nikon gears coz we all know that nikon cmos sensor are made by kodak and this is the truth and nothing but the whole truth. Nikon couldn't even make their own sensor and you know what the body of the nikon are also shared with the fuji dslr tell me im wrong.

  • Mostly, Nikon has used almost exclusively sensors from Sony. D300 uses a sensor from another company which hasn't been traced hence we don't know its origin so that's anyone's guess. Come the D700 and the D3, it's even more of a mystery since no one makes a FF 12 mpix sensor besides Canon and we know it's not that one. Some ppl with insight argue that it might be a Nikon made sensor. No one knows. And yes. Nikon has been kind enough to let Fuji use the body design of one of it's old bodies.

  • Nikon's sensors are made by Sony; don't confuse the masses with misinformation.

  • no shit wise guy

  • lol nikonpro 3... amusing. i dont like to say this, cause photography is not really about how much you know, but you really know shit about what your talking about. if you like your nikon good for you. but no one here really cares, because most ppl here are already canon dedicated.

  • ...go and get a alpha 900.

  • Does this camera really have a 3 inch screen?? I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this, but either the screen is smaller than 3" or else the camera is really big.

  • 3" isn't big. DSLRs are big. The original 5D LCD cover is already 3" with 2.5" viewable. They could probably go to about 3.5" on the same body.

  • Compare it to the D300, again Canon on any camera has 3, 6, 9, or both 6 and nine while D80=11afp D90=11afp D200=11afp D300=51afp D700=51afp D3=51afp just that raises its quality by so much. So many more features I could add to that but not enough room.

  • Do you really worry about af points being a "pro"? For my purposes, IQ and center AF speed come first, everything else is just a bonus. My 1D has 45 points, but I limit it to 11 since I don't need to use that any more. Anyway, the 5D MkII is appealing for its noise control (supposedly improved from the legendary mark I), MP count, HD video, and if you're already invested in the Canon system, the lenses. I find the D700 and 5D MkII equally enticing, the 5D more so with the video mode.

  • My point of view, I like Nikon more and you like whatever you like; although DSLR is for photos not video, for video theres video cameras Nikon D90 also has HD video I don't find that interesting I use my camera for photo not video.

  • NikonPro3, Canon hasn't had a DSLR with 3 auto-focusing points since the D60, which was introduced back in 2002. Since then, they have upgraded to 7 AF points, 9 AF points, and 45 AF points. Even their entry level DSLRs are equipped with 9 point AF systems. Nikon's latest entry level, the D60, still remains with 3 AF points. Since the introduction of the 10D in 2003, Canon has used AF systems with 7 points and 9 points. AF points is nothing to brag about, anything over 11 points I'd deem useless

  • yeah seriously, both canon and nikon's have their strengths and weaknesses. i have an canon xti and its a great camera, but i'm upgrading to a 5d mark 1 soon. but i shoot with nikon when i shoot film, i have a n75 with a 28-105 macro. both are great cameras. the whole fight over which is better can never be won because it merely a battle of opinion, where there are no right answers. its about how well you are at photography, not how good your camera is. no more arguing!

  • I can't believe people are fighting over a brand name. What a bunch of babies. Both are good companies and good cameras. Do you care more about the camera or the end result or maybe just winning some geek argument about who has a better camera.

  • Question: had a quick skim, so may have missed this answer ...but if we have 21MP, are the lenses man enough to actually take advantage of that level of resolution compared to say, 21.9 of the 5D?

    Thanks

  • The Canon Luxury lenses should be sufficient but i doubt the others are good enough.

  • The 5DmkII will kick ass of D700/900 . . Higher res of MkIII will serve others whereas the D3's res will not. The D3, IS really good . . impressive. but so is the mkIII . . . The main aspect, and the essence of photography is the photographer.

Light is everything and how a photographer best uses that light IS everything. The camera is nothing more than the extension of a photographers brain. . . the print out.

If I had the Money, I would buy a Hasselblad with leaf digital back, etc. . .

  • This camera isn't that great the battery sucks and the menu is hard, takes long to the set the settings you want. Nikon is way more advanced then canon and Nikon is more confertble to use in so many ways i.e D3 has 2 slots for memory cards, 11fps, 51af points and so on. Any Canon camera I checked out it had 3, 6, or 9 af points which sucks cause you cant focus on a smaller area.

P.S Sony cameras are shit their no where near Canon or Nikon or even pentax they should not be in the business!

  • You're not comparing the 5D MkII to a D3, are you? The 5D is prosumer while the D3 is Pro.

  • I did cause to many people compare them anyways so why not if the D3 wins

  • ef2nyd is correct, the Nikon D3 and Canon EOS 5D Mark II are not two to compare. The D3 would be on the same platform as the Canon EOS 1D series. It's not about which camera wins or not. Both companies are very well respectable and highly trustable. Differences should not be settled over their brand name.

  • why would someone want to compare the 5D MKII with a D3? it isnt on the same range...

  • lol wrong comparison..... not even same class. if ur into comparisons, put the d3 next to the 1dsmkIII.....

  • So, just hypothetically-speaking... HD camcorders are pretty easy to come by and can be bought for $300-$400. Single frames out of these camcorders would be of the same resolution as from this $2700 Canon video DSLR. Why would you want such a bulky SLR frame for taking video, then?

  • coz they can:D i dnkw why they put it. but its ther. if i have the camera i probably wont use it coz it will eat my memory but its ther. so lets enjoy it. its a cool extra.

  • man you must be crazy! you kept saying nikon such as this and that... you are comparing canon's high end camera to nikons lower level camera. the nikons lower level camera which is the d90 you are referring to was the worlds first camera to shoot a video. we are talking about lower end camera by nikon here. your mark II probably would even come close to d3 or the d300 nikon hah!

  • Have u actually seen the video from the D90? Its equivalent to what steve job said about the speakers on the new ipod touch "for casual listening" and in this case it would be "for casual recording".

  • I will sell my house for this lol

just playing, seriously though im gonna start saving up for it.

FULL HD VIDEO, you'll be mad to hate this SLR CAMERA

  • Add an OLED screen, build in a sensor brush and hoover system and we have a deal

  • I still think Sony DSLRs are like jokes compared to the Canon and Nikon rivals. Btw, would my 17-40mm f4 L USM be a bad idea on a 5D?

  • sony needs to first catch up with canon and nikon, then surpass them. but by then it'll be too late. one of the issues behind sony's new camera line is the lack of flexibility in their cameras. whereas canon has loads of creative settings, sony does not. where sony still sits in the game is it's built in body image stabilization and excellent in camera editing, white balance. following wise, canon and nikon have the market.

  • can you tell me why you think Sony DSLRs are jokes? What Sony DSLRs have you used and what you do not like about them please? thanks

  • haha, the weakness of this camera is low fps

  • I WAAAANT IT...

  • is that the original lens ?

  • Judging by its size and the shape I suppose it's a 24-105mm f/4L.... well it's the kit lens.

  • For all the photography purists out there, they can stick to their Mark III's. But I also think HD video is amazing on the still camera.

  • It's a small, lightweight full frame digital SLR. It shoot's full HD video, is compatible with over 60 different lenses, and is reasonably priced. It isn't meant to be the best, it's meant to be an affordable solution for those on a budget. Some say it is ridiculous to incorporate video into an SLR, but you are wrong. If I can get full HD video and 21.1 Mega-Pixel shots, with one device, then Im in. Besides if you were a good photographer you wouldnt have to worry to much about the AF points.

  • Next summer... in my photobag... directly from the United States... with 500mm lens...

  • The video this camera is capable of shooting is what I'm most excited about. I could see some great looking documentaries and indy films shot using it.

  • gj, buy a 2700 dollar camera specfically to shoot videos.

  • 2,700 is a lot but when it's capable of low light capability seen in video cameras with 6 figure price tags and depth of field that could only be achieved with much more expensive cameras- the Canon is a bargain. For Indy or Documentary filmmakers it could be a great tool- producing video that looks much more professional.

  • meh, it doesn't really matter. it's just a camera.

chances are good that it (the AF) won't be the greatest. i own the current 5d and i've owned the 1d III. i know what cannon CAN do. the 5d II AF sensor will be largely the same as the current 5d: 9 visible points, 5 hidden assist. 1 x-sensor in the center, other ones will be linear diagonal ones.

i just made a big stink about it because i wanted to provoke reaction.

  • will the 40d--50d grip fit the new 5dmk11 ???

  • where can i possibly get the subtitle of the video?

    pls help!!!

  • Read the magazine article?

  • too bad the screen does not twist to hold up over head with doing my new coverage

  • note the omission of mention for the auto-focus system. why you ask? because it sucks balls. they re-used the original 5d's ailing, ancient AF system. why? to intentionally cripple the 5d II. why? so that you buy another camera, or just outright buy the $8,000 1ds III if you want proper auto-focus. that's just insanity!

  • the camera is for people who shoot landscape and portraits not for photographers who need speed. If you need a speedy camera get the d700.

  • open your mind. the camera doesn't have to be a "landscape and portrait" camera. it can be the everything camera. yet, canon marketing decided to intentionally handicap it. for a marginal cost increase and minor effort to canon corp, it could have been the d700 and MORE. but it's not and the unwashed masses continue to eat spoon-fed marketing churn. megapixel mania.

  • Never said it HAD to a landscape camera but it is. Open your mind, your not the only photographer in the world; many people (landscape photographers in particular who don't need a great auto focus system) like the way the canon 5d mark 2 turned out. if you want a better auto focus system and 21 megapixel get the ds mark 3.

  • 1. learn how to spell. you want to say "you're", not "your"

    2. a good AF system will not hurt landscape photographers. we all benefit

    3. the 1ds III costs $8000. what a logical conclusion to get good auto-focus (sarcasm).

canon marketing has brainwashed you well, child.

  • How do you know that the AF is bad? That's right you don't. You're just resiting the mantra that other morons who haven't used this camera say.

  • Pretty good review... he covered a lot of stuff in such short time, but got the good bit of info out. As for Canon 5D Mark II (waiting for sooo long) ... I am very impressed with Canon for adding some of those latest and greatest enhancements. Yeah, those hardcore photographers who even complaint when DSLR came out (ah, why digital, film is way better ..blah blah) ... what can I say, you will always have whinners

  • 25,400? he means 25,600

  • hahaha - i felt the same way a lot of you guys did about the movie mode... that is until I saw the sample video when paired with an 85 1.2L II - buttery bokeh and the perfect companion for web design material and marketing.

  • are you kidding? did you notice that none of the videos posted by Canon have movement of the camera? Don't you wonder why this is?

I think you'll be surprised by how bad the video will be, the moment you start moving the camera around while your filming.

  • good point.

  • They were BLIND FOLDED on their way in????? Damn is it that serious???? I guess so!

IF YOU VIDEO, WE WILL KILL YOU! LMAO!

  • Can wait till i buy this camera!! i was a happy owner of a 5d until it fell in water :( rip

  • I think I just jizzed my shorts.

  • they should exchange the video mode for more autofocus points or more fps. I´m not that amused when thinking of paying for a video mode I'm never gonna use..

  • This will be a great replacement for my 20D. Cant wait for it to be released :)

  • Actually the ISO range is 50- 25,600, not 25,400. No big deal just a minor correction.

  • This is a beast!!!! When is it speculated to be released?

  • Not till the end of November, alas.

  • Release: end of november

  • So when does 5ds MKII coming? =))

  • cant believe they didnt improve much on the AF and weather seal...

come on, it's a camera close to 3k

  • what a let down, movie capture on a (pro) dsrl jesus christ what are they thinking..

    and 9 autofocus points.

    a big step down canon.

  • I'm a working pro and I'm quite happy with movie mode.

  • The Market is evolving. All Markets evolve actually. Now the DSLR Industry is adding video functionality to DSLR's. Canon wants to be the front runner. This is not a let down at all.

  • i've been waiting for over 2 years for this camera, i will buy 2.

  • 3 years...

  • Canon really has evolved this model very carefully. I hope the camera will perform as advertised- time will tell

Just imagine what the 1 D3 replacement will have--definitely a reworked autofocus!

  • You mean the 1D MK 4, the 1D MK 3 is already here! ;-)

  • Im not a canon fan, but FULL HD Video recording? Great! If canon goes up with this, then the others will be forced to follow. this should have been a characteristic made available a long time ago

  • Very cool, you've sold me. I'll have to get one to compliment my 1d :)

  • Wohoo!! Thanks for this!
