@rockandrollloud at the time it ran more emulators than Maximus arcade - I had loads of trouble running the majority of my emulators on Maximus Arcade - Atomic FE is free, Maximus Arcade (at the time) was not.
Can't remember exactly, it was a command-line version which I programmed a launcher for every single game. |The latest MAME32 release (google for MAME32) is highly compatible and has a menu of its own which can display artwork and screenshots for the games (not the same as the one in this video though). Ideal for playing the games on a PC if you're not interested in Hiding the Windows operating system (otherwise you need a frontend such as Atomic FE, Hyperspin of Maximus Arcade etc)
I know - apparently Fear Factory (or someone else) actually reported my video and I had to swap the track due to a breach of copyright because I couldn't prove that I owned the intellectual rights to the music whereas, seemingly, Fear Factory could. Can't really see that they'd be too bothered about my poxxy little video personally but rules are rules I guess :(
LOL - nice one! Sounds good. You could mount the XBox in the SF2 cab and wire up the game-pads to the original controllers. You can get Super Famicom (SNES) and GENESIS (MegaDrive) emulators (pretty much anything) for XBox too but then again, you'd probably want t keep the SFII cab in working order :) All good fun!!
Yep, I had problems with Mortal Kombat being glitchy too - it turned out to the soundcard. "Soundblaster" sound cards seem have buffering problems with MAME. I whipped the card out as a test and used the ASUS onboard sound and.....it actually improved the performance massively :s I always assumed that onboard would be worse than a dedicated soundcard but I was wrong in this case. Hope this works for you too. Also the speed of this video was sped up slightly - it isn't that fast in real life.
PS. Try Hyperspin as a nice looking front-end. It doesn't need much setting up and will improve your cab's appearance straight away. It isn't as versatile as Atomic FE but it looks great from the start anyway.
hey that is a nice setup i have a machine i built but it doesnt play mortal kombat that fast its very glichy poor play but most other games play awsome any ideas? the pc in my cab isnt the best but it only has roms and emulators no front end
Oh I see what you mean. Yeah, that's possible to do by running from a DVD - You could check; there might be a DVD package that someone's made - it's technically illegal to "sell" the roms and emulator together but people still sell them from time to time on eBay for a few quid. If not, register with a Front-end forum (such as AtomicFE or Hyperspin) and ask very nicely (dont ask for roms on the forum, private message someone). Anyone whose set up a front-end will have the emulator and Roms too :D
Shouldn't be too much hassle for someone to do for you, especially if you approach them askng for their help by saying how good theirs looks and you want one the same but don't know how to do it ;)
Hi - yep you can get full rom sets if you use a Torrent Client (Utorrent, Vuze, Bitlord etc - download for free) to download Torrent files. A good torrent search engine is ISOhunt(dot)om. There are loads of rom-sets available. You can download individual roms from sites but this will be time consuming. Hope this helps. Two easy to set up front ends are "AtomicFE" and "hyperspin" - both are free and very good with good support forums if you get stuck ;) Good luck.
To get the games to work with Arcade X, you can just re-define the keys (press tab while laying a game) then press the approprite directions and buttons to suit you (eg Button 1 = Punch or Shoot. Up = Move Up etc). Most games will work any way without any setting up but you might want t change the odd button or two here and there - really easy. Like I say, just press tab!
As for the MAME emulator itself, get a MAME_32 version to start with - it's easier to use than a command line version and it will automatically give you a games list to elect the games (until you get around to sorting a proper front end that is). You just tell it where all the roms are and it'll scan the folder and give you a list to select from and start playing but a separate front-end makes it look nicer and more professional.
Oh, no I had 2000+ ROMs across different platforms and the front-end started as soon as windows was booted. No delay at all. i had configured a 'predefined' list of game ROMs (which I updated with new games periodically). This eliminated the need to scan for ROMs on startup ;)
Hey I was wondering though, does it take too long to load too many roms? my frontend loads for like 35 seconds loading my roms, I have like 600 mame roms, 5000 something Genesis roms and like 10,000 SNES roms...but when I was making my layout and tested it with barely 300 mame roms it took some time too.
Hey I was wondering, do you have to have the command-line version of MAME for it to work with this? I made a layout and the games and all appear but when I try to launch one mame tells me something like "unknown option: And"...I'm using MAMEUI 32bit. I have tried it with other frontends and there's no problems which means that it can be launched from command it seems but how did you do it? are you using command-linemame?
Yeah, I was using the command line version v8.someting. Because I was pushing the front-end to do something unusual, I actually wrote a command line for every single one of the games :s With the newer versions of atomic, this is unnecessary. I found that the command line version of MAME ran with better compatibility and performance.
Thanks but I already got it fixed, I just deleted any commands and it works perfectly, I'm also using other emulators now and it's great. Even though I don't have a cabinet I just launch Atomic and I have everything there, every Genesis game, every SNES game, every GBA game, a lot of Playstation and Nintendo 64 games and a lot of Mame games!
'Leslielove' argh - accidentally spammed your comment. Sorry, you'll have to re-post it? Not sure what you meant though - shouldn't have done what? I didn't give it away yet :)
They're images I made from official playstation discs using 'Clone CD' in ".ccd" format which I mounted using a virtual drive (created with 'Daemon tools'). I used EPSXE for most games (which requires loads of tweaking to the individual PC to get it to run smoothly - especially the Graphics, Sound and CDROM/Image reader plugins). I used PSX for about 5 games that wouldn't run on EPSXE - PSX worked straight away after I'd got the BIOS files :)
Great job! I'm just starting to mess with AtomicFE, but can't figure how to automatically get to the main screen without having to press Control to bypass the version screen with just the text at the top. How did you do that?
Hmm, not sure - I guess I must have an earlier version than you without the version screen? You could contact the creator of Atomic FE for help about that. :) See ya.
It's fixed now. You have to run the video codec so that it runs the intro before the front-end starts. I'm very impressed with AtomicFE. Great support too!
Cheers, the video is sped up slightly but it does run smoothly - the spec isn't very high at all: BIT VA-10 mainboard, using the on-board sound (SoundBlaster/Audigy/Extigy cards have problems with buffering on MAME and other emulators which can produce latency and or crackling). AMD Athlon 1.162 CPU, 512MB DDR RAM at 266MHz, Windows Home (OEM) 2002, v5.1, Service Pack 1. NVIDIA G-Force 'FX 5200' graphics card and a 250 Meg, 7200 RPM (2 Meg cache) hard drive.
Yeah, it's good - I noticed that the original album is called 'Manufacture' - it has the same track-list as my 'Re-manufacture' album so I guess these must all be remixes of the originals or something? See ya.
No mate - there aren't any LED's on my cab apart from one blue light in the middle which is just a cheap tracker-ball mouse which lights up while it's moved. I wouldn't know where to start with LED's and LED-wiz. ;) Cheers.
Of course. For starters, go to the AtomicFE website and download the frontend for free and then download the plug and play modules for each of your emulators. Hit me back if you get stuck or check out the creator's forum on spaceinvaders (dot) com in the atomicFE threads. Let me know how you're getting on.
Do you use the same front end? If so, you need to have the list sorted in a particular way so it is a "predefined list". Also - I sped the footage up slightly so there is actually a slight delay on mine before it jumps to the menu in reality. :)
You just need to download and install the latest version of the AtomicFE front-end and the plugin-pack for each emulator that you have. You must then place the ROMs into the specific plugin's ROM folder and it'll work. You can then tweak the way it looks, sounds and feels if you want by adding different graphics, animations and sound effects if you want to.
ok got it workign finnally afte rlike 5 hours i had to use alchol 120 to make the iso and it plays awesomely thanks for ur healp all i got to do now is get a cabinet
ok i got the emulator and i got the iso made but when i go to load it the screen blacks out and nothing happens for the psx emulator i used the magic iso
First be aware that not all games work with an emulator so far only about 4 out of 100 wouldn't work for me:
1-
Ddownload the Playstation's BIOS file - "SCPH1001.bin" put it in the emulators "BIOS" folder. It wont work at all without this. You must own a PS1 or PS2 to download it legally. If the Sony screen with music show when you start the emulator, you know it's set up correctly :)
2- Select "Insert CD image" and browse to the "game.iso" you made select it. (The game should now work).
1- "Mount" the iso image in a 'virtual disk-drive' with 'ISO Magic' and select "Insert CD Drive" and browse to your new virtual disk-drive in My Computer.
If this doesn't work, it could be that the game isn't supported or the CD image is corrupt or the BIOS file is incorrect (make sure you see and hear the playstation startup)
As a last resort, use "ePSXe" emulator but it's hellishly fiddly to set things up, but I could help you with that.
The ones in my video are just Sega Megadrive or Genesis games:
Sonic Spinball, Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies.
I also bought a "redoubt" pinball pack from 'PC world' which is good and I'm looking into a free MAME version called virtual pinMAME or something but I'm know how to get it to work properly. It's got photo-realistic images of from pinball games. It uses ROMs just like MAME.
could you please help me set up my computer with a frontend end. realy like mamewah. i tryed everything but cant figure this shit out. i have a snes emu, n64 emu, and mame32 and i need a front end for them and need to no how to get my computer to boot straight into front end. my arcade cabinet is almost finished and i need to get this computer in there so if anybody can help me please do. thanks. also i have windows xp
Just type fastmame in on google and look for the latest version. It should work fine with Maximus Arcade or any other front end. Your computer should be way fast enough to run anything you want - it shouldn't be slow with a spec like that.
thanks fo all ur help i just got to get some links for those tools for the psx stuff and im trying to use the maximus arcade fe but the mame games run slow and have a bunch of echos with the sound
Yep, no worries. Give fastMame a try for the game speed. I've encountered various problems with sound echoes in the past as well - it could be for any number of reasons but try a different emulator first, then try a different sound card if you have a spare one (or even try the on-board sound which gave me the best results).
1. You can download them (which is illegal) or copy them from an original disc (which I did). I used Clone CD to rip an image of the CD then used Daemon Tools to mount the image as a virtual CD which tricks the emulator into thinking you've inserted the real CD. The emulators I use for Playstation are ePSXe (for the majority of games) and PSX (for 4 games that wouldn't run with the other emulator).
2. I'm running a command line version of MAME which seems to run all the ROMs I have apart from the odd few. It's MAME v0.90 - there are newer versions but I went back to this one because the newer ones gave me problems with lots of ROMs not working properly. It doesn't come with a menu though so you'd have to use a Frontend instead. A few people have recommended FastMAME to me but I've stuck with this one because I have no problems.
3. ABIT VA-10 mainboard, using the on-board sound (SoundBlaster/Audigy/Extigy cards have problems with buffering on MAME and other emulators which can produce latency and or crackling). AMD Athlon 1.162 CPU, 512MB DDR RAM at 266MHz, Windows Home (OEM) 2002, v5.1, Service Pack 1. NVIDIA G-Force 'FX 5200' graphics card and a 250 Meg, 7200 RPM (2 Meg cache) hard drive.
Oh yeah, I ran the sound out of some separate speakers from my PC rather than the rubbish speakers on the front of the TV (either turn the TV volume down to minimum or disconnect them completely).
Ah, I forgot to mention - !!!WARNING!!! - if you open up the TV, be V.F. Careful! The TV's capacitors are very dangerous if you touch them while they're holding a charge!
I'm not sure mate - I used didn't use Jamma, I built the cabinet myself and hooked the PC up to a TV. Use the space invaders forum I mentioned earlier - there are loads of people on there that can give you the advice you need.
1- Install a 'plugin' for each emulator to set everything up for you - then put the ROMs where the plugin tells you.
2- Screenshots, I use GunCam (it's free). You can also use video snapshots which GunCam can create. Put them where the plugin tells you.
3- Layout , either create your own with Atomic Layout editor or download a ready-made one from Atomic site an put it in the layout folder "c:\Atomic FE\Layouts". Run Atomic Manager and in 'layouts', tell it where the new layout folder is.
i've just installed the angelscry plug and play for atomic but now i don't know where my roms and screenshots go? mame32 made me think this is easy an i'm getting stressed, please help
OK, don't stress - we'll get it sorted. I haven't used the plugin but I would suspect that the "ROMs" and "Marquee" folders are in the Plugin's folder in "c: / atomicFE / plugnplay / mame" or something similar. If it's not, please forgive me and go to the Atomic forum at spaceinvaders(dot)7(dot)forumer(dot)com/viewforum(dot)php?f=13 just copy and paste this into you browser then replace the (dot) with a . You'll get all the help in the world there - it's a great forum.
Sorry - forgot about your screenshots - you can define the "snaps" folder for your screenshots - open the atomic folder in "c:/" and run "atomic manager". In the folder option, select "snaps" then navigate to where all your screenshots are. If they still don't appear, type in the file extension of your screenshots in the options screen (eg: jpg or png or bmp) until they appear.
I really like this frontend. It looks really colorful. I'm having the same problems as you are with that mouse cursor showing up right after your mame boot screen. I have done everything to try to make the cursor to not show up on the screen for like two seconds.
What is going on with those dos boxes everytime you exit a game? I thought that was kinda odd.
For the mouse cursor - use "nomousey" to turn the mouse on and off when you want (it's free). The Dos box is a program code that I wrote to close the emulator or game that's running. The "Escape button" wrappers don't seem to work for certain emulators. I'm going to try and run the Front End from a shell, rather than explorer to see if it gets rid of the windows box.
Ah - sorry. For the mouse - you need to go to the windows options first and select an invisible mouse pointer, then when it boots up - you can't see it. You can then turn it on with nomousey (if you need it).
Thanks, Just got to add BOR and Zinc now ;) I've got a really smart intro video as well and I'm going to set the Windows shell colours to zero to hide that ugly white text, window boxes and Windows mouse pointer and add snap videos instead of just snapshots of each game.
Very occasionally, when I run 'ePSXe', 'Daemon333' mounts the new 'disc' and windows, in its wisdom, opens the 'new disc' folder on top of the emulator. Does anyone know how to prevent this. I`ve tried setting the 'autoplay' options to 'do nothing'. Quite frustrating sometimes.

(The game should now work).
redmistpete 4 years ago
If it still doesn't work:
1- "Mount" the iso image in a 'virtual disk-drive' with 'ISO Magic' and select "Insert CD Drive" and browse to your new virtual disk-drive in My Computer.
If this doesn't work, it could be that the game isn't supported or the CD image is corrupt or the BIOS file is incorrect (make sure you see and hear the playstation startup)
As a last resort, use "ePSXe" emulator but it's hellishly fiddly to set things up, but I could help you with that.

i forgot how do u get the pinball games
adidas1984x 4 years ago

UMK3HumanSmokeUMK3 4 years ago

where can i get fast mame and can i use it on maximusaarcade my cpu has 1 gig of ram and 3 ghz so its plenty fast
adidas1984x 4 years ago
Just type fastmame in on google and look for the latest version. It should work fine with Maximus Arcade or any other front end. Your computer should be way fast enough to run anything you want - it shouldn't be slow with a spec like that.
redmistpete 4 years ago
thanks fo all ur help i just got to get some links for those tools for the psx stuff and im trying to use the maximus arcade fe but the mame games run slow and have a bunch of echos with the sound
adidas1984x 4 years ago
Yep, no worries. Give fastMame a try for the game speed. I've encountered various problems with sound echoes in the past as well - it could be for any number of reasons but try a different emulator first, then try a different sound card if you have a spare one (or even try the on-board sound which gave me the best results).
redmistpete 4 years ago
"Daemon tools 333" is free but "Clone CD" needs to be unlocked/registered but you can use "Magic Iso" (which is free) to make the CD image instead.
redmistpete 4 years ago
how do u get playstation roms and what version of mame are you running and ur cpu specs
thanks
justin
adidas1984x 4 years ago
1. You can download them (which is illegal) or copy them from an original disc (which I did). I used Clone CD to rip an image of the CD then used Daemon Tools to mount the image as a virtual CD which tricks the emulator into thinking you've inserted the real CD. The emulators I use for Playstation are ePSXe (for the majority of games) and PSX (for 4 games that wouldn't run with the other emulator).
redmistpete 4 years ago
A few people have recommended FastMAME to me but I've stuck with this one because I have no problems.
redmistpete 4 years ago
NVIDIA G-Force 'FX 5200' graphics card and a 250 Meg, 7200 RPM (2 Meg cache) hard drive.

how do u hook the pc up to a tv
adidas1984x 4 years ago
1- You need a TV with either a 'scart input socket' or 'S-video input' on the back.
2- You need a graphics card with a 'TV out' connector.
3- Connect the appropriate lead to the TV-out (on the Graphics card) to the Scart or Svideo input on the TV.
The advantage is that it looks like the original screens (with scanlines) and you can get a big old telly for a lot cheaper than a VGA monitor.
redmistpete 4 years ago
Oh yeah, I ran the sound out of some separate speakers from my PC rather than the rubbish speakers on the front of the TV (either turn the TV volume down to minimum or disconnect them completely).
redmistpete 4 years ago
Ah, I forgot to mention - !!!WARNING!!! - if you open up the TV, be V.F. Careful! The TV's capacitors are very dangerous if you touch them while they're holding a charge!

hod do u hook a pc up to ur jamma cabinet
adidas1984x 4 years ago
I'm not sure mate - I used didn't use Jamma, I built the cabinet myself and hooked the PC up to a TV. Use the space invaders forum I mentioned earlier - there are loads of people on there that can give you the advice you need.

how did u get ur frt end to work and take screen shots and change the layout
adidas1984x 4 years ago
1- Install a 'plugin' for each emulator to set everything up for you - then put the ROMs where the plugin tells you.
2- Screenshots, I use GunCam (it's free). You can also use video snapshots which GunCam can create. Put them where the plugin tells you.
3- Layout , either create your own with Atomic Layout editor or download a ready-made one from Atomic site an put it in the layout folder "c:\Atomic FE\Layouts". Run Atomic Manager and in 'layouts', tell it where the new layout folder is.
redmistpete 4 years ago
nice 1, i've had wardner working, now to put the rest on.
the roms go to
AtomicFE Dir>\PlugnPlay\Arcades_Simple\Roms
if that helps anyone else
xXPYEXx 4 years ago
i've just installed the angelscry plug and play for atomic but now i don't know where my roms and screenshots go? mame32 made me think this is easy an i'm getting stressed, please help
xXPYEXx 4 years ago
OK, don't stress - we'll get it sorted. I haven't used the plugin but I would suspect that the "ROMs" and "Marquee" folders are in the Plugin's folder in "c: / atomicFE / plugnplay / mame" or something similar. If it's not, please forgive me and go to the Atomic forum at spaceinvaders(dot)7(dot)forumer(dot)com/viewforum(dot)php?f=13 just copy and paste this into you browser then replace the (dot) with a . You'll get all the help in the world there - it's a great forum.
redmistpete 4 years ago

I thought that was kinda odd.
crapstains 4 years ago
For the mouse cursor - use "nomousey" to turn the mouse on and off when you want (it's free). The Dos box is a program code that I wrote to close the emulator or game that's running. The "Escape button" wrappers don't seem to work for certain emulators. I'm going to try and run the Front End from a shell, rather than explorer to see if it gets rid of the windows box.
redmistpete 4 years ago
Ah - sorry. For the mouse - you need to go to the windows options first and select an invisible mouse pointer, then when it boots up - you can't see it. You can then turn it on with nomousey (if you need it).

now we're talking!!! cab is rocking!
snarey 5 years ago
Thanks, Just got to add BOR and Zinc now ;) I've got a really smart intro video as well and I'm going to set the Windows shell colours to zero to hide that ugly white text, window boxes and Windows mouse pointer and add snap videos instead of just snapshots of each game.
redmistpete 5 years ago
excellent work
snarey 5 years ago
Thanks, mate - seems it was a registry option. I`ve managed to disable the autoplay feature altogether now.
redmistpete 5 years ago
Nice to see Mame up 'n' running bud, nice front end and gret to see the hard work paying off ;)
boggyatemypants 5 years ago
Hi mate - my second cab is nearly completed now :) Hope you are well bud.
redmistpete 3 years ago
Very occasionally, when I run 'ePSXe', 'Daemon333' mounts the new 'disc' and windows, in its wisdom, opens the 'new disc' folder on top of the emulator. Does anyone know how to prevent this. I`ve tried setting the 'autoplay' options to 'do nothing'. Quite frustrating sometimes.
redmistpete 5 years ago
For anyone experiencing the same problem! To disable autoplay, Click "Start", then Click "Run"
Type "regedit", Click "OK. Click ">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Services>Cdrom>"
Double click "Autorun": The value is set to 1 by default, change it to zero, Click "OK" then restart.
