  • Wow!

  • Yul Brynner, how a talented man! Handosome, and I did not know he also sang.

    Ivoima

  • who hell are they?

  • @7lucky777777

    he is russian

  • Yul Brynner had his time of his life. ☺

  • Real Soul Music

  • Yul Brynner's many talents are just amazing! He's just so unique! Handsome, sensuous, charismatic, musical, intelligent, those body movements when he walks, his speaking voice, his multi lingual, and somehow very asiatic too, and not pretentious!

  • My Yul Brynner.

  • The loosely translated lyrics are below (they won't all fit here)

    Two guitars behind the wall

    began playing mournfully,

oh my heart, a familiar tune.

Darling, are you there? Once again, one more time, and still many, many times, once again, one more time, and still many, many times.

    Wind, a field, and corn-flowers,

    and a long, long road...

My heart is longing and yearning,

    my soul is in despair.

  • Wish there were more videos of Yul singing gypsy songs. Wonderful stuff. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Yul Brynner has been my favorite actor for over 50 years, he can sing too!

  • Yul really loooked like a phony and jerk but he did have talent

  • Da ploho on govoril, sam chto li ne slyshish'?

Стоит только поискать в youtube , The end of the road, Yul Brinner

  • Rite on MAn! I Dig IT YUL was the Man! MAHALO 2 U!

  • nobody ever reissued this record to CD. I think it needs to be preserved so it doesnt die out...when the records are gone, the music is gone unless people remaster it and put it on download sites

  • youTube wont let me post links as comments...i would be glad to help you get this music. I left the info in your inbox...i dont know if youTube probable confiscates links in the inbox too...so let me know..i can get you this music.

  • Thank you very much for the Russian romance

  • oh and the other guy in the video has albums on this Russian forum also...i dont have the link to this forum no more, but i dont think its too hard to find.

  • i found this whole album on a Russian forum and when i downloaded it, i had to convert the image file to mp3...the person did a damn good job remastering the vinyl...i sure as hell wasnt sure i wanted to pay 80 bucks for a vinyl someone was selling. I myself enjoy remastering vinyls to mp3 and i scan the artwork.

  • @CowboyBebop444

Can you post the link? Thanks

  • @noukamaximoff Merci

  • I saw his only movie - The Magnificent Seven - and I already consider him to be one of the greatest male actors of all times. He has a style of his own.

  • His only movie? How about "Ten Commandments", "The King and I", "Anastasia", "Westworld"... he's been around.

  • @Exmech2 not to mention the magnificent 7!

  • @MickeyLS Yeah, that was the one the poster I replied to said was his only movie.

  • @Exmech2 The Brothers Karamazov, the Journey, the Seven Magnificents etc

  • whats the problem?

    freddy mercury etc. but genius

  • the problem is not his sexuality

    it's about killing a song

    Mercury didn't kill any song

  • Yul's hairless head really helped him stand out amongst the other male stars of the 50's & 60's. But I don't think he was actually bald. I think he just had a HIGH forehead. They say that ladies would squeeze his head to see if it was ripe when he walked down the produce aisle in the supermarket. And how did he know when to stop when washing his face in the morning! Oh well...you know what they say about baldness: HAIR TODAY, GONE TOMORROW !!!

  • some people are sexy as baldies!

    ;-D

  • Man Yul is just immortal...I am a huge fan. What kind of music is this?? I have similar styles from gauchos but what is this style called?

  • Russian traditional style. Yul is a russian and was born in Russia. He is singing with a very popular russian gipsy singer Alyosha Dimitrievich who lived in Paris.

  • I have looked all over for 'The Gypsy and I'. Evidently it isn't available in the U.S. Vanguard has even given the number away. (VSD 79269). But it is available on DVD in Russia where Yul Brynner continues to be very popular. Unfortunately it is a DVD format that won't play on American DVD players.

    DANG!

Who dreamed that a popular movie star could sing like this? And be so sexy at the same time?

  • Just WONDERFUL

  • Wonderful song and great video!!

  • WERE CAN U GET THE TABS OF THIS SONG

  • tastyhorses, thanks for the info. i was rather hoping someone put it on a cd but i think thats asking a bit much unfortunately

i didn't know his son was musical, i know he was into theatre for a while, but thats really cool that he had some musical experience as well.

  • This is a great musical performance by an accomplished artist of many genres and schools....I loved Yule in his classic films and to add his playing ability to the palette is a real treat....RIP Yule.

  • dixie 998...I remember seeing an LP of him playing a 7 string guitar and singing Gyspy songs about 40 years ago.. count the # of strings on this guitar. Anyway, he did cut at least one record. I think one of his sons cut a record too. Good luck finding one.

  • its downloadable in Russian Forums, he made a record with Dimitrievitch, ive just uploaded a track from the LP, might upload more also.

  • no wonder he was so popular in Parisian night clubs when he was younger!!! i love yul brynner!!

  • i know someone that looks JUST. LIKE. YUL BRYNNER. o-o

  • I've always thought Yul Brynner was sexy !

  • This is incredible ! Thank you so much for sharing !

  • does anyone know if you can get yul singing on cd? other than the king and i soundtrack of course.

  • No shit, Sherlock?

  • But his pure talent has and will influence generations of Thesbians and Musicians alike.

  • I do sincerely hope you mean "ThesPians" (as in theater players, actors) rather than what you wrote.

  • if i thought that doing it would make me this cool/beautiful/sexy/male, i'd shave my head and start growing a moustache right now

  • I didn't know he played guitar, singing, yes course he sang in The King and I, he was a wonderful actor, and i had the chance to met him in London, special person, very human and simple!

  • This is treasure!! Since a young girl I found Yul to be a wonderful actor! Not to mention incredibly sexy and debonair.

  • no, he did not. you just have no sense and no taste, that's all. it is not "Театр Ромэн" or contemporary Russian пошлятина from Brighton Beach, that's why you don't get it. too bad for you.

  • Exceptionnel!

  • Hopefully Yul knows how to play 7istrunka, because he does not sing in russian!!!

This guy was born in vladivostock and does not know a word of russian !! unbelievable

Aliosha has a real tsigan voice and way of singing!

    Respect for Aliosha

  • Yul knew russian well--

  • Togda pochemu on ne poet kak Dimitrievich, na russkom !?

  • what language IS he singing in? Romanes?(tziganne) sounds like russian..

  • He is not singing in any form of known language))

  • Note that they both are playing Russian Tzigane 7-string guitars.

  • If I knew I'd look as good as Yul Brenner bald, I'd shave my head immediately

  • He was born in my city, Vladivostok. His mother lived in Harbin (it was Russian then), very close to Dalian where I live now.

  • You should hear him sing the cossack drinking song from the 1962 version of Taras Bulba. He looks like a cossack. All he needs is the scalp lock.

  • i like them both separately but them together kinda kills me. very cool, though.

  • Very interesting! Bravo! TY.

  • ya know with that mustache and "singer mug", Yul looks a bit like Freddy Mercury!

  • ochen kraseevaya.. spaseeba bolshoya

  • every time I see it, I cry.

  • Thanks.

  • Does anyone know how I might purchase a copy of "The Gypsy and I"? Thanx.

  • Yul is wonderful, excellent in that it makes... pretty voice, pretty, delicious! I love, love, love Yul Brynner...

    Sarah - Brasil

  • Here, Yul with Aliosha Dimitrievitch. Aliasha is his friend fron his childhood. thay met when yul at 12 and Aliasha at 18 in Paris. they sang together in gipsy style in Paris. they have an album called Gipsy and I. Aliosha is an gipsy.

  • Yul in fact was born in Vladivostok to a Russian mother and a Swiss father who was 1/16 Mongolian so he was not a Ukranian Gypsy. He however considered himself to be a gypsy and gypsies accepted him as one of theirs. This song is a Russian Romance with no known author, however many authors have later contributed their variations of this classic.

  • I'd say that if he considered himself to be a gypsy and gypsies accepted him as one of theirs, then he's a gypsy.

He's identified himeself as one of them and they've accepted him. That makes it legitimate.

  • It was his grandfather who was Swiss.

  • @tiger50011 It's legend - Yul was born in Sakhalin. His 1/2 Swiss father was not have Mongolians blood - only Swiss and Russian

  • yul was a singer before he became an actor. this song is an russian balad. i think he sings perfect.

  • LOL, Ukraine ballad - give me a brake, and the language is also Ukrainins, right?

  • Put down the crack pipe. This music is not Ukrainian, the language is not Ukrainian, and Brynner sure as hell wasn't Ukrainian. I am though :)

  • Venik, I am deeply insulted. I do not smoke, crack. I do smoke tobacco. So did Uncle Yul. He was my mother's brother. If you're Ukrainian, listen to the word's, closely. I remember when Uncle Yul and my father would drink, and sing the old songs. That was years ago. I'm 54 today. I still call him "Uncle Yul". Maybe you know him better than I do????=Stefan=

  • Yul was born in Vladivostok. He wasn't Ukrainian. The gentleman accompanying him is more than likely Aliosha Dimitrievitch, his partner in music.

  • It's Aliosha Dimitrievitch, no doubt....

  • Indeed, who else? They were very close friends.

  • WRONG!! Yul Brynner was an accomplished guitarist and singer. He sang in clubs in france for quite some time and recorded records.

  • I've found a studio version from this song with Yul!It was a slide show on youtube about one year ago!But now i can't found again.

PLEASE!!!Somebody help me to found!I Love it!!!

I'm ready to pay for it!Please!

  • Suppose you´re referring two the version found on the LP "The gypsy and I" (1967). It´s a very touching recording he did together with Aloshia Dimitriewitch and Serge Camps.

  • Poor Yul. I grew up with the ten commandments. He was the man.

  • Fantastic!!!!!

  • THANK YOU for posting this!! I saw it years and years ago when they were showing clips from Ed Sullivan on TV- always LOVED this song!

  • ohh myyy

    sooo hott!

    he is delicious

  • I have never seen this before, thanks for the post, Yul was a fine actor and left us all with a great legacy of entertainment.

  • wow!! this is soooo cool and vintage! ive never seen this, thank you for posting it! :)

  • Thank you for putting this up.

It's one of my favourite songs. And I love the way they both are just so concentrated on 'speaking' to each other.

  • Russian passion teaming up with Latin passion - very good.

  • Thanks for posting! Yul was such a great talent; a true "man" of films; not an overgown boy (like today's young men). Really enjoyed this clip.

  • oops, too fast. Can anyone confirm the following: in the movie "Anastasia" with Ingrid Bergman there is a scene in a Russian restaurant. The 'orchestra'playing there seems to me the family Dimitreyvich with Aljosha. ANYONE..?

  • ... or is it the family Romanov ;-)

  • Yes. From Rock Brynner's book Empire and Odyssey, page 185. "One night that summer I stayed up late to meet the Dimitrievitch family at the club where they sang. Aloisha and his family had only recently returned to Paris from Argentina, where they had fled the Nazi Occupation. For Anastasia, Yul hired the Gypsy family who had adopted him to appear in the nightclub scenes, modeled after one of the actual clubs where Yul had performed with them."

  • @silhouettelady

    THX!

  • O dear, this is great! Yul Brynner with the father of the Dimitrevitch family, Aljosha.

    Love it!Thank you, thank you!!

  • Good to see more videos of russian 7 string guitars (also used lots my gypsies). for anyone who wants to know, they are tuned D,B,G,d,b,g,d'

  • i often wonder what happened to Yul's guitar after he died--I know his last wife has it and was a bitch about giving it to Rock his son--but wish i knew!!

  • the hole packet is amazing

Yul Brynner and Aliosya sing «Two guitars»

  • Greetings, I've been a YB fan since the age of 9. I have the vinyl disc The Gypsie and which features Brynner and Aliosya.

  • great actor ! great singer!he loved the gypsy life!

a humble man he was!thank you for this wonderful video

    jim

  • wow yul great voice!

  • Yul Brynner was champion! RIP!!

Awesome singer, such rhythm and he hit all the notes!!!

  • This is from the Ed Sullivan show in 1967 - I saw it the other week on "The Best of Ed Sullivan", a recurring show featuring clips of various acts throughout the years. The original episode aired September 17, 1967 (ep. number 927, season 21). This is also the famous episode that got the Doors banned from the show afterwards for using the line "Girl we couldn't get much higher" in the song "Light My Fire."

  • Tis cannot be 1967. In the video Brynner is much older and olready very ill :(

  • Sorry, I don't have anything else with Yul singing. I fond this old footage on an old tape (in Beta!), this extract was in a variety show, it's all what I know. I was for throw out all my Beta collecton and I had the good idea to check it before... I am very interested to have music of Yul and Aliosha, if someone can tell me something at this subject. Tnx a lot.

  • Wow! Where the hell did you get this footage from? Are there any other songs? Okonchen Poot? Is there any possibility to get a burned copy of their cd from anyone? I would pay via paypal...Let me know please..

  • This is probably my favorite youtube video ever. Yul sings beautifully.

  • Thank-you so much for this exceptional document! My mother's family is related to the Dimitrievitch family, and to see Alyosha Dimitrievitch singing with Yul Brynner is a most significant treat for me. :)

  • thats great being related to this man~!!!!!!

  • Hi Yashband, It´s OK, and thanks to explain about the language, but is just that in the Rock's Brynner book "Empire and Odyssey", says that Yul sang in tsigani with Aliosha, you can check in the web site from Rock, that includes the song "Okonchen Poot" with the same explanation, you are very lucky having that record. So please, upload songs of that, there are a lot of Yul's fans, like me, that will appreciate you it very much.

  • Hello Cerveral, give me an e-mail adress and i will send you uploaded mp3 from Yul & Aliosha!

  • Hi Yashband: Thank you very much, I allready, sent you my e-mail to your in box, in this web-site

  • Thank You very much!!! Do you have more of Yul & Aliosha???

    Fantastic!

  • Hi everybody:

The laguage is Tsigani,is Gypsy, I dont'n understand, but Rock Yul's son says that in his book.

  • Hello Cerveral,

Sorry, but i know this song very well, its "dve guitari" in russian. I have the full album from Yul and Aliosha, all songs are in russian. I have also songs from Aliosha in russian rom language.

  • I forgot to say that Yul Brynner sing in russian with an american accent!

  • with bits of the roma into these songs

  • thanks!!!

can you upload more ? please!!!
