  • I think half strafe is easier. So much easier to gain speed =).

  • @RyanJRA64Abella I prefer half beat also. You don't have to move your mouse so much and you can chill while doing it :)

  • is there a practical use for this in competitive gaming or just "show-off" skills? srry, startedd watchin q3 vids

  • @kamikrazi123 Try to run this fast without strafejumping and you will know.

  • @kamikrazi123 absolutely, depending on the distance you need to travel, your speed, your position etc. get use to the motion and you'll find yourself using it in certain situations.

  • @kamikrazi123 Yes. It's... Very useful. Timing is more important though, item control.

  • @kamikrazi123 there are competitions around yes. Google defrag quake 3 :)

I am one of the guys that played it ages ago on mousepotato servers while schelm and some other top notch defraggers was around. These strafes are really easy :) fav map was prince quake, plasma map 1.35 min long without flaws.

  • Szaq - best half beat jumper ever :P

  • lol 20 fps

  • the 20 fps is read from the software he's using to record his demo to a format such as .avi

If he really had 20 fps in game, it wouldn't be as smooth.

  • @MarkQP jealous

  • Lol do you always get 520 on your circle jump? Wow.

  • link for map

  • I do halfbeat without even realising it - I find it so much easier.

  • It's different from regular strafejumping. In half-beat your mouse never leaves either the left or right side, and half of the time you let go of the forward key (when in the direction where you move your mouse towards your moving line).

  • What is half beat strafe jumping? It looks like a regular sj but with less mouse movement?...

  • half beats are hard

  • half beats are easier than regular strafing since you don't even move your mouse. Quick explanation: If you face diagonally right, you press Forward and Strafe Right, Jump, then press left, jump, then forward and strafe right ect ect. It's miles easier, just weird to do when playing.

  • nah not really

  • I think it easier once you get the hang of it. I never full beat strafe anymore. Even tried "beatless" without using forward just for the heck of it. It works too :)) <3 vq3 physics :)

  • Omg how?!?! Pmove_fixed 1? Or just super bad ass :o MUST LEARN! Any good tutorials on halfbeat?

  • dont move your mouse...?

  • where could I train strafejumping on a longer route, in QuakeLive?

  • Not at all atm...get q3a with defrag mod or wait until they add training-maps some time in the future.

  • ke. ill re-install q3a and hopefully defrag will work with it, I tried earlier TODAY but there were no "mod" in the menu =S

  • raztrainql_beta3

  • I want to set up my own strafe server only I just cant find the friggin mod lmao

  • get the defrag mod

  • i've only passed red pads like one time.. i get stuck on gray pads :0

  • very nice xD

  • i might as well keep spamming ur vid anyway, you should make a video of you trying to strafe on .16

haha it would be pretty funny, well if you still runnin on the same pc that is

  • lol 20 fps that fukin sucks man im sorry, what kind of pc you runnin?

  • It's just recorded with 20 frames per second. When he's just playing and not recording he probably has 125fps or something

  • it wouldnt matter, anyway. on .32 20 fps wont hurt your strafe.

  • with 20 fps???? comon .. wtf?

  • Ha Nice, Ive Been Practicing Half Beat SJ But I Can Barely Pass Green With It :P

I Can Strafe Normally Just Not HB

Anyway These Idiots Who Think It Is G_Speed

    There Wrong Lol

If It Was G_Speed 500 When He Ran For The Pad

    It Would Of Showed 500U...

    Lol Idiots

  • I've always found halfbeating really hard, so this is very impressive. Just ignore the youtube idiots who seem to know nothing about quake :(

  • Not give speed, i can do it too....

  • It's not a trick jumping video with corners and such. Not need for a vq3 verses cpm debate. debate. CPM is 10x easier for strafe lane. Just the first jump alone is 50-60 more ups with an average cj.

It's a strafe lane video. If you can consistently vq3 strafe white cosbeta lanes, you are very good. I am talking I come over, stand over you and see you pull it off 1/3 attempts.

Anyone can lag and timescale hack. Oh, and RA3, DM and CTF = Vq3.

  • so what gravity value are you using ?? :)

  • You strafe really awkwardly

  • Good Speed :0

  • Hmm, the youtube comments system fails me again :/. That was a reply to beanwithbacon.

  • oh nooo - hes back... hahah... he comes and torments me too. If he doesnt like it why waste his time on it :/ Yes with cpm you *can* move around a map more easy. Alot of vq3 game play servers now have things like pmove_accurate rather than fps dependant movement. Oh, but you wont know this will you. Yes youtube comments system changes every day it seems. Who knows where this will end up :D

  • POr que es pRo y h4x0r a la vezZ aahahhahah q dureza de wrk

  • :O pero como lo hace sin girar la mira :O imposible

  • halfbeat...

  • >_>!!!! yo subire un video mejor que eso!!!!!!

  • heh lol :D hf white pads nice man :D

  • good game!

  • how the fuck u strafe.. lol i just start playing this game.. im a ut2004 player :D

  • ol! nice u did half beat XD

  • whats the name of hat map..??

    i wanna try to ^^

  • cos1_beta7b

  • ty m8 ^^

    you ow me 1

  • lol do you mean you owe him one?

  • no lol..

iam typing on a flodable keybord..

i mean you own me!(with strafing)

  • lol not bad hb

  • i'd be impressed except for it's vq3 movement, not hard to learn at all. vq3 is a joke

  • Not hard to learn? Thats a bloody hard jump on any physics. I like your strafing vids, impressive :D

  • dude, vq3 physics are and were designed to be incredibly easy, to bring more new players into the series. Holding forward while strafing = easy as pie. vq3 is just stupid, any movement that forces me to lose momentum by turning 90 degrees is not worth my time.

  • After starting on cpm then to vq3 i found it much harder and difficult, but more versatile on vq3 but i am not an expert. Anytime i used cpm i felt i was cheating as it was much easier with the forward key, pretty much the opposite of what you say. I wouldnt consider vq3 to be a promotional feature for popularity but I will take your word for it. It's like comparing apples and oranges to me.

  • I'm not talking about simply moving forward. It's all the tricks in CPM that give it a much higher level of skill. VQ3's simplicity makes it an awful gametype to be put into the Quake universe. Sounds like you've never played Q1 at all, let alone tricked in it. You don't hold forward in CPM, doing so gives you less turning options and can actually slow you down at times. VQ3 is much much easier to learn and pull of because it's limited to two things, the strafe jump and the overbounce.

  • This in turn makes tricking in it much more limited and easier to do, and 1vs1 tourney gameplay in vq3 very predictable and lack any sort of strategy.

  • I don't see much point replying to this but I am anyway. Let me put this in language you understand:

"IF YOU THINK CPM REQUIRES MORE SKILL THAN VQ3 YOU ARE A N00B!"

They both require the same ammount of skill, they're just different. However it is _harder_ to do strafe pads in vq3 than cpm.

  • Sounds like your probably doing CPM strafe runs on a map designed for vq3 strafe runs, of course that would make it much easier because CPM gives you faster and farther jumps by default than VQ3 does. Doing a strafe run in CPM on a CPM map is much more skilled than a vq3 run in a vq3 map.

  • So you are now agreeing that this strafe run would actually be easier (we both know it is) with CPM physics. But initially, you are not impressed because it's done with vq3 physics? It dont make sense :) With your knowledge, of course you will know this is a vq3 map. Maybe you had a bad day, enjoy the rest of the weekend :)

  • going fast is easier in cpm in a straight line. gaining speed and momentum however takes much more skill in CPM.

  • You can't do halfbeat in cpm, doh

  • You can't do halfbeat in cpm, doh

  • Not bad. Check my "FPS GAMING DEMO" vid for my strafing.

  • wow lol

  • sucks watch Strafe jumping by leech & umbra

  • quikslvr that is proof lol,the quake3 engine is too flexible to be edited freehand, or to get it accurate and then youll need to get the textures right, so unless your implying this clip did not come from a demo (or technology like fraps) then this is proof. nice strafing.

  • how in the FUCK can you do thaT? :D

  • thats not strafe, thats bunnyhoping!

  • It's Half-Beat Strafing.

  • That looks like white strafe on cos1_beta7b. That is NOT a hard strafe compared to w3spgaz's strafe. I've played defrag for 5 or 6 years, so I know :)

  • yeah my map was one of the first strafe training maps, so a lot of the newer maps are going to have harder strafe lanes.

  • Hey costanza, this is still a great map after all the years gone by. White strafes are my favourite out of any map.

  • no proof with out demo.
