  • You should start winding generator/alternators that attach to stationary bikes. I bet a well built affordable unit would sell well on ebay etc.

  • Can I just say this...I own a small business and we take these apart all the time..

    Steps.

1 take the motor put it in a vice and tighten

2 take a dremel or any industrial cutter (saw zaw, demo saw, grinder) and cut one side

3 take a flat pri-bar and pull the other side out..

    its that simple

  • What ??? HAA dude just cut all of them on on side and take a lever to peull them out from the other side

  • does increasing the winding turns makes it fast? I have a dc power window motor and I wanted to make it faster..

  • Good stuff my friend. When I get alot of old electric motors I simply put them in a fire. It loosens everything and is easy to get out the copper. Not too good on the environment though.

  • CHECK OUT THE DEGAUSING COIL IN A TELEVISION. IT IS THE COIL THAT GOES AROUND THE FRONT OF THE PICTURE TUBE. IT GOES AROUND THE SQUARE END OF THE TUBE. IT HAS NO RESINS BINDING THEM TOGETHER. JUST ELECTRICAL TAPE TO UNWIND. AND IT IS READY TO USE. SOME ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM WIRE , BUT MOST ARE COPPER WIRE.

    ENJOY.

    MUDDy

  • why bother getting it so neatly coiled up? Why not use a grinder and cut the bundles off the top/

  • I have used copper wire from microwave transformers I have been keeping the primary for a wind turbine project and the coatting is a pain and I have found when I unravel the copper the outside is the worst but onces you get to the middle its pretty clean but you can recoat the wire if you want to be safe from shorts the motor you have would have been great for a wind turbine project thanks for the video.

  • plasma cutter , if you going to waste something that's worth more as a motor than scrap. these units are easy to rebuild.

  • great idea recovering ac motor windings ... washer and dryer motors are easy to find around here. How did the good idea in your head turn out? ... instead of covering the slinkey why not build windings directly on it.

  • I wouldn't do this with the intent of reusing the wire - I'd do it for the value of the copper. People are actually melting copper down and saving it as bars just like silver and gold for investment purposes

  • nice looking salvage

  • what's it for, antenna radials ?

    teslacoil?

  • Well it's actually three coils per group 6 group.1-8-10-12 span.

  • you have a 1or2 wye motor ,4 pole.at 1800 rpjm.with 9 leads.wye do you do this the hard way.

  • how much would all the wire from a motor be worth for scrapping?

  • That's called phase paper dude. I can't believe it wasn't dipped in varnish and baked.

  • @rwg42985 how do you get the magnetic core out of the heatsink-like shell? i have a massive motor(50hp) and want to repair a coil (or three), your method looks simple except for that...

  • A lost art. Good work!

  • Buy new lines. Never ever reuse the lines. they will make you regret later. buy new :-)

  • Hi man u are realy corages to do that the way u do. Me i just cut of one side of the copper and make my self a good old wood fire. After burnig it for 30 Min in a verry hot fire iil take it out let it cool down and then with a pair of plaiers i am esaley able to undo the copper wire . If i have lets say 200 of this engens to do it takes me ruffley 2h . If u whish to collect the wire hole , dont cut on one side

    gritings from a pro

  • where can you find those types of motors??

  • I thought you were doing this to sell the wire for scrap...

  • why would it need to be straight? it all gets melted down anyway

  • I don't understand why you would want to re use wire from a electric motor. Is copper wire that expensive? surley the chances of damaging the insulated coating on the wire and causing it to short out between turns is too great.? Thats just my thoughts.

  • @MrMoonwalkers If it's cheep I'll have you buy some for me... Lol

Really tho, magnet wire is not that cheep. And I have zero funding for my projects. So reuse where I can.

I saved about 50 to 70$ by reusing this wire. When you have zero funding... Thts alot of money! Thanks for the comment. Please visit RWGresearch . com for all my work.

    ~Russ

  • @rwg42985 I can understand that if your projects are for yourself and are not profit making that getting wire from scrap is agood idea. I work in the motor winding industry so i must take wire for granted.

  • @MrMoonwalkers yes wire is expensive.

  • @MrMoonwalkers Lol people do this for a living and people that are good at it get rich real fast!

  • How do i test mine? i have 3 wires from the stator on a 3/4 westinghouse pool pump motor. it just buzzez loud when i plug it in 110 v. thx!! and what wires are for what? maybe im hooking them up wrong. line one line 2 and a blue

  • great skillzzzzz

cant wait to see oyur idea for coating the toy slinkys

  • @rave154 , thanks rave! ~Russ

  • Nice time laps, I have taken apart one transformer and thought that was time consuming. Great to see the copper being reused. Peace rawbush

  • @Rawbush oh yeah! Transformers are fun!!! I need to get over to your channel and watch some of your videos! Keep up the good work! ~Russ

  • Hey, cool. I've been out of town for a while. It's good to see you are still going strong. Great video. I might use this knowledge in the future, so I thank you. Do you remember my page with the wind powered cell phone charger? It's in the Pepsi Refresh Project. I'm a bit excited. There's a link in the description, if you would like to see what I am talking about. Good luck and Godspeed Russ. You're an inspiration.

  • @derman077 Hey! It’s all good! I never replied to your message yet (Smiley) got a little busy, but I have been pondering the ideas, I hope to reply soon with some thoughts! Pepsi Refresh Project… really, Congrats on that one!!! That’s grate!! Ill check out the link! Godspeed indeed! To be honest I think he has been given me what I need to do what I’m doing! I am blessed! Send me an email! Rwg42985@aol.com that way I can get with you easer! Thanks, and keep up the good work! ~Russ

  • @rwg42985 DUDE! I just sent you an email, while sending it I looked up a video to share with you and instead found a series where Marko Rodin speaks. That was amazing.

  • Would it be easier to break that ceramic casing of the motor so all of the sets of wire just fall out? Or do you want to Keep the ceramic. I think its ceramic.

  • @TheUFOeffect If it was ceramic that would make life much better! It's steel layers like a transformer core! There would be know way to brake / cut it off without destroying the wire. It's just not ment to come apart! Thanks ~Russ

  • @rwg42985: Oh wow. How heavy is it? 50lb?

  • @TheUFOeffect 30lb or so. ~Russ
