  • you and bd594 should make a band

  • @kickmedavid Ooo, he's got some cool stuff. *Subscribed* Thanks!

  • I'd give another thumbs up just for the Bill Nye quote. Geez, I miss his stuff... Hey! I request the Bill Nye theme song, please! Using science to make music of an epic science theme song from an epic science TV show. ...If I was Arnold Schwarzenegger, I'd say "DO IT! DO IT NOW!" But I'm not, so I'll ask nicely :)

  • This is so wicked cool and real industrial music being made.

  • AHHHH these things just make me smile :) remind me of the portal turrets :3

  • Any chance you could do Bumble Boogie with this?

  • Nice to see these old things have found a new purpose in life :3

  • flight of the bumble bee might go well for this sort of thing.

    if you haven't already ...

    watch?v=h6A-JYbu1Os

  • But I have to say... This idea is COMPLETELY and TOTALLY UNIQUE... And I was REALLY blown away.... :D

  • Next up should be DOT-MATRIX Printers.... :D

  • My quest for a new ringtone has ended.

  • I keep hearing Eye of the Tiger in there lol. Nice.

  • You are a genius! Why don't you try to change the wood with some metal sheet or plastic should have different sound! I'd better try metal first and would improve sound quality, the hiss is quite annoying! but still thumb up!

  • @zionthelion73 Check out some of my newer videos, I've improved the sound immensely (got a better mixer). Wood was easiest to work with quickly, but if I ever do get around to making another set-up it'll probably be metal.

  • ha, my floppy keeps making sounds like that for no reason.

  • Floppy #3 is missing a cover plate off its head...

    You know what that means...

    NAKED FLOPPY! XD

  • Could the output of a midi keyboard be used to directly use the drives as a speaker?

  • First 30 seconds sounds like Pink Floyd

  • These kids couldn't do this on their downloaded music players, Ha-Ha, there are no downloaded music players? Laamme!!!

  • damn thought it was flight of the Valkyries XD

  • wanna Czardas - Montie )

  • YOU are officially my new favorite subscription. Look forward to your new work when it comes.

  • the two people were stung by the flight of the bumblebees

  • FloppyStep right now Or Flop and Bass OR HipFlop

  • Alright, just to put a damper on the comments: The piece many of you seem to be expecting is "Ride of the Valkyries", I am working on doing that one as well, but for now you'll have to settle for "Flight of the Bumblebee".

To quote Bill Nye: "Noooow you knoooow!"

  • @Sammy1Am To quote GI Joe: 'And knowing is half the battle!' Great work, thanks for the uploads!

  • @Sammy1Am and Knowing is half the battle! G I JOE!!!

  • @Sammy1Am sounds more like the green hornet theme

  • @Sammy1Am

    And knowing's half the battle....

    [Insert G.I. Joe theme here]

  • what the heck this isn't flight of the valkyries

  • you need a good condenser mic bro, dynamics are only good for live sound and drumkits. but good work, i love floppy drive music.

  • This is great!

So, will you be playing the Super Mario Bros. theme on it?

If it can be played on a laser cutter, it can be played on a floppy drive. :)

  • Shouldn've done flight of the valkyries.. :P ALSO stop putting them upside down in the vids! They look like they have faces THUS it should be called FLOPPY DRIVE A CAPPELLA!!! :P

  • I just adore it :D

I hope you never find out what having sex with a woman is like - and stay pure G33K

    \m/

(joke from one geek to another there hehe)

  • Have you thought about adding a speaker cone and some housing to them? It might sound a lot better and cleaner, dunno though...

  • ...oh. I thought this would be "Flight of the Valkyries."

  • Sorry, but the first 40 seconds don't sound ANYTHING like Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the bumblebee.

  • Can you do Through the fire and flames? THAT would be awesomesauce.

  • ok so hold on, I don;t believe you. What's actually making the sound? Is it the rattle of the floppy drives or something else?

  • @xsquaredthemusician It truly is just the floppy drives making that sound. Because the stepper motors move by increments ("steps"), they can be driven at specific frequencies to produce notes (one note per drive).

  • @xsquaredthemusician I believe this is real, anything is possible. I've used my DS as a working phone!

  • That is pure win! XD

  • At the end I felt like I should applaude or something haha

  • I take it the drives burn out quickly, with all the moving they do

  • @PhAzOnMaDnEsS101XC I haven't lost any yet, surprisingly. I haven't actually used floppy disks in a long time, but I imagine they move around a lot under normal-usage as well, so they're designed to take the punishment (that's what I hope anyway).

  • @Sammy1Am yeah, theyre designed to take a lot more abuse than youre giving them

  • @Sammy1Am i guess you're right on that one... we used floppy disks a lot when i was in school, and we never had any problems with the drives

  • @Sammy1Am To reassure you, they do indeed move around a TON when reading a disk. You aren't making them do anything they normally wouldn't. You're just making it sound good. XD (And those types of drives last for YEARS too!)

  • @PhAzOnMaDnEsS101XC I always think the same thing when seeing this kind of stuff. But the reality of it is that stepper motors are designed to move like that. It looks awful to us because our muscles move continuously, but stepper motors just don't, so that's normal for them.

  • you think you could do party rock anthem?

    everyday im floppyin

  • i'd like to see spyhunter them on floppies

  • Can you get them to play the Legend of Zelda theme? that would be awesome.

  • @MrEdJepson @MrSolidSnake745 has the Overworld Theme here: /watch?v=FnP6boE4TNg . I might do something Zelda-y someday though.

  • @Sammy1Am Please do the save select screen theme c:

  • You should do some movie soundtracks.

  • Question! How do floppy disk even make sounds!~

  • @teoyc93 Motors? Just control the motor movements with software code! :)

  • I've heard many evil things in my life, this just sounds diabolical and it's awesome.

  • I have a sudden craving to hear "Ride of the Valkyries" done this way.

  • Wow, just wow.

  • Man. Dynamics and everything? You're good.

  • @kevinmacha I _really_ wish I could take credit for that, but it was just serendipitous. The drives are a lot softer on higher notes. =)

  • my friend sent me the link to the imperial march one it was awesome but flight of the bumblebee came to mind when i seen it.. I was going to troll you about doing bumblebee but since you already have EPIC PROPS to you for this one... you saved yourself from a troll... nice work

  • lol 1:06 dynamics

  • I thought this was going to be a take on Flight Of The Valkyrie

  • @gaxxag Hell yes, Ride of the Valkyries would be pretty awesome :D

  • 0:21 is what my laptop sounds like all the time

  • Sir, you know how to do things I feel incapable of understanding.

    Ride of the Valkries?

  • this is so cool :D

  • F'ng amazing!

  • LOVE IT!

  • yes this sounds way better than the first one

  • MOAR!!!!!!

  • It sounds like a Tesla Coil

  • @LlamaJudge If I ever manage to get my hands on a Tesla coil, it'll definitely also be playing music.

  • @Sammy1Am I may give you the chance at some point!

  • @Sammy1Am After you threw all kind of things to it, just to see if it explodes and burns.

  • @Sammy1Am If you get a Tesla coil it had better be on it's way to me, lest you want me to build a Tesla death ray in front of your house

  • @Sammy1Am please do!

  • @LlamaJudge I am nerdgasming at the thought of what you are "suggesting" You have no idea how awesome that would be.

  • i just had a geekgasam

  • I just thought of another one you could definitely do... NES Duck Tales - The Moon Theme... I don't think ANYONE has done that one on floppy yet! Be the first!

  • Brilliant

  • Amazing how we were able to tolerate that much noise in our computers for so many years... brings back memories of my younger years... from like... 10 years ago. Dear God how times has flown.

It was just 15 years ago my Mom was talking on a Portable Bag Phone and accidently picking up other peoples conversations like it was a demon possessed piece of CIA spy equipment... Now I can watch porn... ON MY PHONE!!!

I still remember the green screen Apple Comps. Now I can watch this... thing.

  • FANTASTIC!

  • The floppy will never truely die, as long as someone refurbishes them into musical instruments.

  • Real Industrial!

  • reminds me of the "turret opera" in portal 2 xD

  • @DerAssAssinenMetzger I did "Still Alive" already (check my channel), but I think perhaps I'll do that one next 8') (The Turret Opera is my ringtone at the moment)

  • @Sammy1Am it'll be great to hear it =)

  • Floppy drive #2 is a boss.

  • 9th let it play dance please

  • Brilliant !

  • Good but can it do Justin Bieber LOL

  • @Films4You you can make anything sound horrible thought.

  • That is amazing, you could make a whole orchestra with that

  • 4th?

Great improvement by the way, and well done :)

  • last

  • 2nd :)

  • First! :)
