I was fortunate to see Johnny Mathis sing this in Monte Carlo on July 4, 1975 at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club where Prince Ranier had hired him to sing in tribute to Independence Day for his wife Grace Kelly. What an incredible memory The roof opened up and fireworks were shot off over the water. And by the way, my name is Maria. Still get chills.

In 1977, Mom, Dad, my brother and I were going to a meaningless pre-season NFL game, and my parents TRICKED us and said they lost the tickets, so we ended up seeing Johnny, who my parents loved. We didn't know who he was, then after the show, two pre-teen boys were Johnny Mathis fans. He's not that old. 75 or so. He should do a 25 city tour. If his health is good, why not? He'd still pack an arena. WE WANT JOHNNY!!!

Goregous voice live! Wonderful Experience! In between the most enchanting singing I've ever heard, Johnny had the comic Gary Mule Deer with him. Gary had us all laughing our heads off with good clean jokes. Great talent, Great Crowd, Great Show! Johnny's coming back to CA. Going to try to see him again!

I saw this on TV as well and was so touched by the way Johnny sings right to each person out there. Even in his early 70's, he still sounds great. There are several fairly recent videos of him up here. I grew up listening and experiencing his unique greatness as a performer.

So classy and refined, and his vocal + mic technique is so awesome. At 2:22 he is full voice, but see how he starts off mic and brings the mic up to create the illusion of far to near. And the end, what he did is hard to do, pianissimo with no loss of resonance b/c he does it the correct way with breath support. Just beautiful!

Thank you for sharing this video. This was one of the most applauded song when Johnny performed for the first and last time in the Philippines. I saved all my allowance for weeks to see the concert . I could only afford the cheapest seat so I brought a pair of binoculars.  It was a very pleasant experience seeing him perform even from afar.
