I lived 22 years in Lincoln and Omaha. Trust me, Nebraska is still a hick state, but yeah, Omaha and Lincoln are a buffer against the worst of it.

I love Omaha. It's kind of like Sacramento, only with tornado sirens, no mountains, and no evergreens except for a handful of weird, brownish pine trees. Oh, and brick streets, black squirrels, and if you really want hicks, Counciltucky and Carter Lake.
