I think this ad is great and it shouldn't have been banned. It's a pretty mild presentation of eroticism between men -- not that I believe in 'mainstreaming' homo-eroticism to fit people's comfort zones. I think it's quite shocking how virulent some people's responses to it have been.
Remember that this TV commercial was made for Heinz UK - and the company had no intentions of using it in the USA. By the end of last week, just 202 complaints had been made to the advertising 'watchdog' in the UK, the Advertising Standards Authority. For every complaint received there are so far 13 people - gay and straight - who are supportive of it. It was Heinz who pulled the ad, not the ASA. On one hand I think this is really cute, but on the other hand, the way the commercial is structured does make it seem like there is a slight joke that they're gay. If the husband came out first instead of the kids, I'd feel less torn about it. But the idea of it being a nice gay couple is kinda nice too, a rare thing to see on tv.

This ad is NOT offensive! I've seen worse straight ads! What about ads for K-Y, or perfumes? What if I find those offensive? If I do, I deal with it, I just ignore it. I don't send in letters, for god's sake! And this is banned, just for a gay kiss...things like this shouldn't even be an issue any more. And if a parent does have to talk to their child about homosexuals because of this ad, well, the earlier the better. It is a fact of our world, some people are gay, get over it!

I think this ad is great and it shouldn't have been banned. It's a pretty mild presentation of eroticism between men -- not that I believe in 'mainstreaming' homo-eroticism to fit people's comfort zones. I think it's quite shocking how virulent some people's responses to it have been.

Remember that this TV commercial was made for Heinz UK - and the company had no intentions of using it in the USA. By the end of last week, just 202 complaints had been made to the advertising 'watchdog' in the UK, the Advertising Standards Authority. For every complaint received there are so far 13 people - gay and straight - who are supportive of it. It was Heinz who pulled the ad, not the ASA. Heinz now face a consumer boycott in the UK until ad is restored ... and it has started to bite.

No, the Bible tells us it was forbidden to eat those things, not that it is forbidden. Now, if you can't explain why that is so, then you are merely making an ad hominem attack on the Bible - pretty pointless. No, the 3000 year old book is responsible for ending the black plague (ask the elders of the city of Vienna how they used the Bible to stop it), building more schools, universities, hospitals, orphanages, and freeing of slaves than all other segments of society combined.

Whilst unfortunate that this AD couldn't just be played without such media attention, its still working for heinz by MAKING people talking about both the company, product and the gay background. Good can only come from this. That said, I think the "Mum" bit wasn't necessary.
