I want to run for President under the promise that I will give everyone a Million dollars, thereby making everyone a millionaire and I let the FED print the money out of thin air. Should be a winning campaign. Promise people money that they have to pay for...LOL
I dont understand why politicians think they ought to use their power in these ways. (Not Bob Barr's ideas but Obama, McCain, etc.) I dont remember voting for someone to run my business or give me money by proxy of law. Where do they get the idea that the definition of elected official in a free country makes them petite tyrants!? Its simply unethical.
What?! The markets can deal with "speculative price hikes" fairly rapidly. Just look what has happened to oil prices in the last couple of weeks. What the markets can't overcome is idiotic tax and regulatory policies--like the ones supported by Obama. Mindless and reckless saber rattling at Iran and Russia by the Bush-Cheney-McCain team does not help either. Like Bob has said the only way to deal with our energy problems is to get government out of the way.
I disagree, there is a lot of false information out there. I believe that the oil industries main problem is the oligopolization factor, OPEC, and price setting like Carter stagflation economics in the 70s. Big government isn't the answer....it is the problem. You want more Patriot Acts in the future? More FISA bills? More war? Keep building up big government! The republicans and democrats are actually very similar at the base. Neither party cares for liberty!
well said - they also rely on people not thinking about anything but the 2 parties... its like gandolf fighting the balron... in the end they are both falling down the pit anyway...
Obama is taking advantage of the media's willful ignorance of basic economics. In terms of profit margins oil companies are not terribly profitable compared to other industries. Maybe he should propose a windfall tax on the television networks. It would make more sense. I won't hold my breath waiting for it.
Exactly, Obama's pandering to the ignorant, but what's more troubling is I think he actually believes it himself. That soundbite proves Obama is a socialist.
I am tired of Robin Hood politics. Obama will rob the Oil companies and give to everyone else. At least Robin Hood robbed the government instead of business!
Robbing the Oil companies is economic rape of the people. I don't see how most (especially democrats) don't understand that no company will take a loss when they don't have to. They kick everyone's pockets down the line until the consumer takes the worst of the blow. 1,000 to each person won't go far when oil prices spike back up due to oil companies passing it down the line. People think in such idealistic terms you have to wonder what clouds they're on.
Tax the rich! Give to the poor! There's nothing wrong with that? Then let me ask all you liberals a question: where would your paychecks come from? Do you remember that rich people are the ones that give you jobs?!
excuse me he was forced out

It's amazing how many people won't vote for BobBarr, just out of fear of the person they don't like winning.

this guy got kicked out of the republican party and now is just under a new label. He has no credibility

you mean mixed race or a woman? Obama's just as black as he is white

Or supported by a major party.
Then he might actually have a chance of winning.

Obama wants to fight inflation with more inflation.
Central Planning does not work people. The middle class is disappearing because of the central planning of Washington D.C.

It's also unethical.

Cute analogy.
And I have nothing else to add to the conversation.

It's 'balrog', and you'd think that a candidate that doesn't care about America's pricipals would be weeded out before the election.

Inflation. Duh.

Obama: ...we will tax the windfall profits of these oil companies (insert roaring applause)...
Oh, and they wouldn't pass that cost on to consumers in the form of higher prices, would they?
Honestly, I am amazed how little leftists understand market forces.
Tax a big company and it will raise prices. Who does that tax hurt the most? The poor.
Raise minimum wage and companies will raise prices. Who does minimum wage hurt the most? The poor.
Leave the market alone and everyone prospers.

If the leftist understood economics they would not be leftist. They would realize how insane some of the things they advocate are.
