Hey do you know how to fix a dogs dis located shoulder? My dachsaund got wrapped up in some blankets and tried to jump off my bed and then fell but his arm was still wrapped in the blanket basically dangling him from my bed. My bed isn't that far from the ground so I think its not that bad but his arm dangled a little bit. So what's a good way to fix that? If the only option is to go to the vet how much will it cost?
@ThexBlackxCherry He probably broke a bone or really hurt his elbow or shoulder. If he's putting weight on it, it's not broken or dislocated.
It costs anywhere from 300 to 2000 to xray, cast, or surgically fix injuries to the leg. We often can't tell exactly what we need to do from an exam, we need xrays.which cost 150 on average.
Wow, I guess I got lucky. I have a vet in Augusta, GA (Dr. Gratus) who is wonderful and he pinned my puppies leg (femur) for $300.00. It took an hour of his time and skill. It is ridiculous what some vets will charge. Other vets in the are wanted $450 just for the x-rays.....I don't mind paying for an x-ray but I don't want to help you pay off the machine in such large chunks. My advice too is to call around and see who is the better deal. HOW MANY DAYS UNTIL PIN SHOULD BE REMOVED? TKS
@gandl2123 Great price. The pin usually is removed in 8-10 weeks in a puppy depending on healing. An x ray is usually needed to make sure the bone is healed. An x ray machine costs anywhere from 50-150k. Digital x rays are much better but are more costly. You did get a great deal. Most vets would charge 700-1000 for the surgery and 200 for the xrays, 50 for sedation, 40 for exam. Vets are not money hungry. They(we) went to school for 8 years and deserve to make a decent living.
We are in the same situation. We have to travel to another country to make the surgery because in USA is non-human , out of reach. They ask us 6000 dollars. Our little one is suffering but the vets don't care. They even said we'll have to cut the dog's leg. I never saw so crazy people...In europe are much more affordable, and they offer many kinds of help for payments, much cheaper...WHAT 'S HAPPENING HERE? Is not easy to see your dog with just a broken bone, getting deformed...USA SUCKS!!
@dancingwithoutwords I just put a pin in a dogs leg for 1000.00 2 days ago. I assume you went to a specialist who only does orthopedic surgery. Once we became specialized then regular vets were afraid to do surgery due to lawsuits and the price went up. More vets would take payments but our experience is that many people don't finish paying. We love animals but have a staff and equipment to pay for. Where are you located? What bone is broken? How old is your dog?
@dancingwithoutwords You may try calling a vet that has been in practice for a while, comfortable with pinning a leg. in general, smaller the town with middle income population, the better the price. You can call to get quotes
@DrGregDVM Thank you for your support DrGerg. Finally we found in the valley a really compassionate Vet. He's going to perform the Orthopedic Surgery this thursday...The budget is between $2500 - 2900 (Half than the others we visit prior).
Paying half up front...Still is money but it's more ethic. One of the best.
Thank you so much for your support once more. I wish everybody could fix their dogs without struggle...
My dog needa the same thing and has the same break. I cant affors the surgery and every place i called cannot help. No one even offers a payment plan. Hes been on a splint for a month but started getting sorea so i took it off to clean him up. I clearly notice his leg healed all wrong.... Im beyong sad becuae i love my dog and hes just a baby and im failin him. All in all he still is a happy, playful dog
@chicat84 His legs may look bumpy now, but it may smooth out .Dogs and cats will usually heal and be fine. Fortunately they do not need to track down prey, we help them with the food part. You will be amazed how good he will do in another month. You are now failing him, he has your love and three more legs
