I remember he threw away a cymbal in the middle of a superfast lick, making a gesture to one of the stage crew guys. Apparently it wasn't attached properly.
Unfortunately the cymbal didn't fly into my hands :)
Tommy's amazing, I love that he lives to drum, he's ssoooo relaxed and at home behind the kit..! Kinda' reminds me of Bernard Purdie (not in style obviously - just how much he loves drumming)...
@EmEeArCee actually on that special part the solos are not necesarilly all the same thats what it was made for, check out hes other videos,,, its NOT the same ,some people just foget that music isn't all about brains most of times they let it all out, that's why you practice everyday for someday everything just comes out of you.
I read on his blog that the stage managers in Germany were timing the performers down to the second and he was trying to not go over. There were peeps from Zildjian on his side with stop watches out trying to make him laugh. Pretty cool that he's so loose and casual about it and still can play all that amazing shit.
Wish all you experts would take note that he's playing music, not drums. What he does musically is why his drumming is so excellent. Ideas plus musicality. Got it? Playing fast around the drums is NOT what a drummer is meant to do.
I totally agree, Tommy can groove, but he's a PROPER, serious musician dude in the traditional sense. Plus he's one of the top drummers in the world, just check out how much is going on in this vid... His left hand is going overtime...It's crazy stuff... He's a stunning musician, it probably helps that he spends all his time jamming with other 'proper' musicians - that's got to help develop your musicianship...?

What horseshit. I've met the guy, seen him in clinics and on gigs. Could not be more cool, nice, humble and truly giving of his time. Totally gracious beyond the call of duty. You can say a lot of musicians are self centered jerks. But Tommy Igoe is definitely not one of them. Trust me on that.

He sticks his tongue out once in a 5 minute clip and to me it looks like he's obviously laughing about something. I think the looseness is great and refreshing. People are so serious all the time!

i am with you on this: if there is a click going on in HIS mix, then ok, just amazing. but if he is just feeling it, suggesting triplet feels, metric modulations all while metronomically perfect & STILL coming back in on that kick...this guy was born on mars.
He's not as bad as marco minnemann seriously... one video marco is playing pretty simple stuff on a practice pad, and he looks like he's on all kinds of stuff and taking part in a face-pulling contest lol
