she's a coach at the rink i skate at! i want her to be my coach:) she looks SO different now. she's gained weight but she is still a brilliant skater.
When I watch something like this, it makes me despair at how much skating has devolved in the current era. Which current skater shows this much musicality, this much perfection in body-line, the intricacy in steps and movements with little dependence on crossovers, the ride-out from her jumps? Will we ever see a beautiful layback like hers again instead of a bad foot and leg position in preparation for pulling the foot up into a Biellmann? Sad.
Such a pleasure to watch; I love how smooth and seamless she is going into and landing jumps...just flawless..and she had one of the beast lay=back spins EVER...
She seems to really understand the true beauty that figure skating can be!! I LOVE how she holds out every move to the fullest, and there's simply not a mediocre position or line in the entire program. A masterpiece.
I think in 1982,she had 3 sons ( twins ).I saw her at a mall rink in 1976 and was too chicken to approach her for an autograph. She was like 8 months pregnant with her first son and she looked tired. She was judging a small local ice skating competition.I walked into the mall one afternoon and there she was!!! I don't think she has skated in some 20 years or more.
Magic! The restraint of Janet Lynn's style is timeless. I fully agree with Toller's astute comments; the point of the free toe, the stretch of the free leg, the stretch of the neck and the relaxation in the shoulders. All attributes not seen at all in competitive skating today.
Janet's rock solid jumping technique almost 10 years after ending her amateur career is a testament to Miss Kahout's excellent coaching.
2:58 SPECTACULAR split, she does footwork into what appears will be a lutz jump as the foot goes to an outside edge, and then she makes a split out of it.

A supreme example of all that is best in skating.
I love, and agree with, Toller's commentary, as well.
