  • This is in 9/8 or 9/4. Old Metheney maybe?

  • so 80's>>90's... so boring

  • @brunocleta boring? who shit in your brain?

  • @pepakake27 i don't mind if it's an irregular beat or not. this tone is a shit. jack is almost sleeping. are you used to listen to the things that mr. holland plays nowadays? this english man is the evolution of jazz. just his bass line and pat's solo are good here. herbie is tacky and boring playing live. the music goes on... search for esbjorn svensson and the music coming from the soul. do you like the 80's and 90's? go to listen to morphine. they kick ass.

  • album "Flower Hour" titre (over reggae). DVD dispo en Fnac, un indispensable !

  • kind of weird note choices all along but it's a nice little groove

  • Jack is guna be doing a gig in London on 21st Nov.....see you there!

  • Bow, your head with reverence, piano players, you're in the presence of greatness. There is ONLY one Herbie Hancock. God bless him.

  • I'm an expat living in Taiwan. I remember my friend and I were "partying" (you know) and he put on this song, at about 2:00 am! I'd never heard it before! I was stomping out the 9/4 rhythym, in complete bliss with this music!!!! The neighbors came up and yelled at us! Ha ha! Such a beautiful song! Maybe if it were during the day, the neighbors would have dug it...or maybe not, ha ha! Just greatness!:))))

  • Either way, this song has a party feeling to it. Like New Orleans. I believe this song is in 10/8.

  • Hey, no offense here bro. Just count it:)) That's why it's called "9 Over Raggae"! Cheers my friend! Metta! -Kirk

  • Kirk,

I apologize for hitting the thumbs down sign, so I'm giving you a verbal thumbs up. You were right. It is in 9/4.

  • btw,i meant no offense by that.anyone who can appreciate these fellas must have somethin good goin on. im keen on time and chord progression,i just dont use it unless im gonna cover a song(which i rarely do)sorry.i realized it may have been a little harsh after i sent it.keep up the good listenin

  • it's defiantly 9\4

  • Ditto!

  • haha i see there are a bunch of 'timeheads' here.oh well, whatever you feel the need to say....cant see the woods for the trees guys.... great song

  • i've got a jack dejohnette cd called something like 'earth spirits' i listened to for yrs.i've always listened to pat.imagine my surprise when i saw them workin together.very cool

  • Maybe too sweet, DeJohnette and Metheny had even better days.

  • Love the way the groove develops and takes full form....

  • This song is so happy! I love it!

  • Hola amigos!

Me expliqué claramente?

Bien, un abrazo grande a todos!

  • Great tune and great performance... I like it very, very much!

  • There is something about watching shit hot musicians that is just fantastic.

  • Such great musicians.

  • Man, no way! This piano solo should be in other song, it doesn't fit this one....

PS: No matter if you say I'm not right, I would never agree that this fits perfectly

  • herbie has a unique understanding of phrasing. I love this solo.

  • too much 80's style, love hancock and dejohnette though

  • I know Im a bit drunk at 3am.... but this always makes me feel great. Like a call to my soul. We are all part of something amazing and should learn to love eachother [told you i woz pissed!!] I respect these guys so much. Need to practice !!

  • "Doubts"! Fuck! You're a LOT closer to the Truth than most. But I gotta tell you, from the heart, your "doubts" are boring. I say that because I KNOW you ARE close to the Truth, and I know that you can feel the Truth in this music. STOP the "secure" ILLISION of being pissed!!! Risk EVERYTHING, Everything that these guys risk every-fucking-day to do what it takes to live in this kind of music. You're better than most; I know you've got great ears! "Doubts", Change your name to "Do!" And Go!

  • Amen. Go do it. Music is worth that much. Share it with everyone you can.

  • tremenda canción

  • whats the name of this tune?

  • This tune is awesome and it is called "Nine Over Reggae" (or "9 over Reggae" - whatever)

  • That's from 3:04 on! Awesome!

  • Listen to the chords Herbie is comping with his left hand during his solo! So dissonant, and so beautiful! Soooo right!

  • sorry... just to finish. Those african kids were born into many different rhythms. Wouldn`t they be bored at da cluuuub. God knows i was last time i went. Crap music and i didn`t even pull. Metheney is beautiful on this. holla [please dont]

  • I turned on the news tother day to find a load of kids in africa clapping and dancing in 9. Made me realise i had to learn various time/feel as a western drummer... those kids didn

  • I love reading all the comments. Arguing musicians...

  • it´s one of the best pieces of music i´ve ever heard

  • i played this piece with my band, it´s actually very easy

  • baba süpersinnn elleriin dertt görmesiiin

  • a mi lo que me mola es como mueve la caebza el metheny, parece que asienta y diga "joer que bien toco la ostia" o que se la estén chupando to feliz

  • What the fuck? This comment was supposed to go to the guy back there! Oh Fuck. Sorry for the repitition guys. Enjoy the song! Sorry, my bad.

  • This last comment was meant to be a reply to somone who said, arrogantly, that it is Definietly in 9/8. I forgot to press the reply button. It doesn't fucking matter; 9/8 or 9/4. There's not fucking difference. Try to FEEL the groove! It's joyous and beautiful, and a little hard to feel! For me anyway.

  • The DVD is called DeJohnette, Hancock, Holland, Metheny In Concert. Recorded Live at the 1990 Mellon Jazz Festival.

  • What better way to make four! Hit 4,6,9!!!! I get a better picture of where Vinnie is! Amazing to hear that way! Sounds so round!

  • I got it better now. You can feel it like a country song actually! No kidding. It's a lope, with a few intros! Listen to it that way, but with a Jazz/Blues -Herbie Solo-/dissonant/very funky feel!!!! Then it really gets cool!

  • This is probably the only song I've ever heard where I'm not hearing the 9/4. I'm Almost In Jack's head where I'm feeling it. Not there yet. Close! It's amazing to hear it as feel! But I loose it sometimes; then gotta go back to counting. GREATY Herbie Solo!!!!!

  • Amazing!!! Música difícil de executar e fácil de escutar. É por isso que neste quarteto estão os melhores músicos de jazz do mundo. Sensacional!!!

  • too happy for my taste - but great piano improvisation.

  • piano solo - Herbie Hancock

  • great footage!!

  • solo gracias por esta musica!

  • what's the name of the DVD??

  • NICE......,,,,,NICE!

  • This is absolutely beautiful!

I can't wait to get this DVD.

    Thanks for sharing...

  • 1...2..and1...2... I think. [if you get me]

These guys give so much. Magical

  • herbie fkn rocked

  • wow Dave Holland is a pretty hot electric bass player. pretty coo aye

  • reunion de puro talento jazzistico, de los mejores conciertos que he visto y escuchado.

  • pat metheny's use of melodies in his solo work very well in this tune

  • It's called "9 Over Reggae"

  • hello, somebody know what is the title of this song?

    thanks

  • Herbies Hancock's playing is just amazing, as usual...

This is from a CD called "Parallel Realities" where there's a track called "John Mc Kee" and Herbie's solo on that song is one of my favourite solos ever played in the whole history of music! I think Herbie was totally into it and really inspired when he worked in this band!

  • I agree, these musicians together, made this album one of my all time favorites. Lyle Mayes, did I spell it right, is so emotionally melodic, like Hancock on Parralel Realities, got to be Metheny! Listen to Jack Dejohnettes Irresistable forces lp. Phenominal!! Don't think you can get it on cd but possibly I'm wrong! Great music!!!

  • Hancock is a monster on this song. I love how Hancocks solo is so agressive, and then Metheny balances it out completely with his beautiful feel and straight forward approach.

  • It wouldn't surprise me if Hancock was bored out of his head playing on that theme. I know I would have.

  • Real good Jack Dejonnette realy plays, thats A 9/8 tune

    for me.

  • Dave holland on bass guitar? why?!

  • its 9/8 NOT 9/4

  • yeah okay, but metheney solo is defenitly NOT in 9/8, more like 4/4

  • well, guys, astonishing enough... this piece has more than 1 part and more than 1 metre... wow...

  • uh, hello, it's 9/4. But who's really counting. The point is, can you really feel it? I can't. I can count it, of course. Anybody can. But can you feel it? Jack does a great job of making it feel in four! Forget eights or quarters. That's not the point. Great Herbie solo! So dissonant!

  • OK, I'm replying now. I forgot to hit the reply button before. Sorry 'bout that! What fucking difference does it make if it's in four or eight. It's all the same! No offense, but just enjoy the groove! Cheers!

  • The title of this tune is "9 OVER REGGEA" partly because of the 9/4 measure.

  • I think Herbie's piano solo is the best part about this piece. I don't care so much for the synthesizers.

  • Anyone know the title of this tune?

  • "This guy" is Herbie Hancock, and trust me, he can play. He just gets into so dissonant stuff there. Admittedly, it's an odd choice given the light, upbeat feel of this tune.

  • WTF! What the hell this guy is doing with the keyboard? My dog would play better then this. Oh god wtf. But the guitar is cool

  • @ tahdoido :

How can one person be so ignorant and disrespectful ???

Do you know, this is Herbie Hancock you're talking about???

One of the best living jazz pianist of our age !!!!

His solo is great and he knows exactly, what he plays ...
