Short term effects... I smoked tons of pot for years. one day I stopped, worked full time as an emt while getting a biochemisty degree and now im in grad school. oh ya, and my grades have always been A's or B's. Not A's or B's in psych or communication classes, but biochemistry, molcular genetics, molecular oncology, you name it. However, I don't think I wouldve been as successful unles I had stopped. But still, the stuff is HARMLESS.
Hard to tell? Really? Marijuana has been around for hundreds of years. Why do we know the long-term effects of meth and crack cocaine then? I bet you can figure that one out on your own.
Gateway drug has been proven to be a stupid argument and anybody who uses it is automatically stupid. Gupta played this argument very well. He kinda went against marijuana without completely condemning it. I don't doubt that he is educated however he seems to me to be more of a celebrity then a medical doctor.
And I thought Dr.'s were people of science!! This guy is just another bought off mouthpiece for the profiteers of this prohibition who ignores decades of real scientific research done by real Doctors and scientists and instead tries to keep the myths & hysteria of "Refer Madness"alive and well. I mean, come on, a gateway drug? And the high potency scare? And addictive? All these lies have been debunked. Shame on you Dr. Gupta. You are either a lier or ignorant of any real research. WE KNOW!!
that's so strange- this whole segment was basically about how the doctor was unsure about whether or not pot had long term effects because researchers lacked any empirical data...And he brushed over the part about people smoking less marijuana when that marijuana has a higher concentration of thc thus negating the harms that come from the increased average concentration of thc in marijuana plants. All of this seems to indicate that this news segment was of little to no impact. Fail for CNN.
I hate how people say pot is a gateway drug. Even if you start smoking weed, it's still yur choice whether or not you move onto harder drugs. People can still control their decisions. Just because you smoke it doesn't mean your forced into shooting up heroin or snorting coke. They're just trying to scare people into not smoking pot.
If marijuana has been smoked for thousands, and thousands of years, how is it still "hard to say" if it has any long term effect? Hm... maybe because there aren't any.
i've been smokin weed ever since i was 13 and im 18 i've smoked gud weed + bad weed da 2 types of weed i hate the most is reggie and popcorn (lower level weed) i think da popcorn is killin my brain cells forreal, and the reggie makes me depress.my favorite type of weed or strain is upper weed (sativa mostly)
lol, i love how they make weed sound so bad. im 15 and i smoke it almost every day and iv been doin it for about 1 and a half years. my decision making has not been affected nor my school work. i pass my classes with no problem. so they cant say that my memory was effected, well it is effected wen im stoned but wen im not stoned its perfectly fine, FUCK THEM ALL JUST LEGALIZE IT ALREADY, IT WUD MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE!!!!!! THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE
@lolzbrucedawg yup and when its legalized we can take it out of the hands of kids like you. Your the type that ruins it for the responsible adults that smoke weed. Get your life started kid. worry about drugging your mind when your grown.
@Anarchiest4life get a fucking life, i just watched one of ur videos, u look like a fuckin crack head loner and ur house looks a like a fuckin trailer. buy sum decent furniture. get a job. make a living. god i fuckin hate trailer trash.
CNN like most of American media is perpetuating a futile War on Drugs with scare tactics. Oh no!!! Look at drugs: dangerous! THC: now "more potent"! Panic! Yeah ok. Maybe they are; maybe it is. But does that show that the current course of action (police raids, illegality, etc.) does anything to combat drug use/crime in an unbiased manner or even effectively? Discuss the actual ISSUES -which are complex socially and politically- surrounding drugs&crime, not the fun-facts about drugs themselves..
@radioactive1415 Also proves that the average American SUCKS at science. I won't go into why we might suck, maybe it's just easier for people to accept whatever they hear on the TV/radio as "truth" when really, it's a heavily-paid-for and advertised opinion (actually, let's be honest: LIE) that some group with an agenda tries to push onto the public. For example, most anti-pot ads are funded by alcohol companies.
Back to science: they probably are comparing 80s shwag to some serious ott chronic.
The shots of people smoking distracted me so much haha. But really, the marijuana they used to judge the levels of thc in the 60's was low level shwag from Mexico, the weed they use to judge the levels today is high grade hydroponic. That's not really a fair comparison is it?
The only reason that they are talking down about pot is that they are paid off by corporations who don't want to see it legalized. If pot were legalized then hemp based products would become much more popular and stifle the lumber industry.
Yep, THC levels are higher. But... ummm... well, I don't know how better to break this to you dummies...er... talking heads... THC is GOOD for you! Don't we wish THC levels were even higher than just twice as much. I mean, it's not like you're gunna overdose on it.
iam really sick of people making up crap about marijuana in general, thomasmoonman man the point, as all the other hundredes of thousands of people agree on, all thies things we people use everyday are potent as F*ck and our government is crycrapping over pot? cmon, grow up governmen and get over yourselves, you arent any F*cking smarter than the people of america, we also know better too, we know our own bodys 200% you know nothing of us!

i like how the chart of increase in THC levels raised 6% in like 25 years and they're making it seem like it's enormous lmao
that's what happens when people cross-breed strains to yield higher thc levels. it doesn't mean the weed is any more "dangerous." we're assuming that thc is damaging in the first place by making this a concern.
this is clearly right-wing propaganda.

Gupta is a douchebag. He is a codependent person. He would ban alcohol as well as keep marijuana illegal.
Freedom, individual liberty, is not important to him. Doctors are supposed to do no harm. When doctors take responsibility for others when those others don't want them to, they do harm.
Supporting the illegalization of drugs causes harm to others. Supporting the legalization of drugs does no harm to others.
Others choose to harm themselves or not with drugs, that is their choice.
If it's a highly potent strain you're smoking, you just end up smoking less, because you just get blitzed earlier. Putting higher potency pot down is retarded. Alcohol is far worse for you in every way than weed ever will be <3.
Quite right. You can smoke weed all day and you won't get any higher than physically possible. It's actually well known science now: THC works by binding to special "THC" receptors at the base of the brain; once all the binding locations are filled up that's it. Not to mention our brain produces a weak amount of THCesq chemicals that bind at those locations naturally. I wish our fucked up respective governments would stop trying to ban nature.
The government give people scary numbers like 400 chemicals and 30 % THC. then the people panic and think is bad. a tomatoe has over 600 chemicals, we always eat those without thought
Water itself, by definition, is a chemical. But the word "chemical" has a different connotation in the majority's heads, as when the news usual says "chemicals" they mean "fuck you up mentally or physically kind of chemicals".
I still think the percentage of people who've used it (around 33% of the population) vs. the percentage of people who've died (0%) speaks more than any other facts backing up any other theory I've ever heard.
Well, that's not quite the case. Your analogy assumes that the two substances affect your system in the same way, whereas there is a difference. As long as you continue to drink, your BAC will continue to rise and you will continue to get drunker. When smoking weed, you can only get as high as the amount of THC receptors that you have; adding more to your system will just waste much of the THC, which will store itself in fat rather than binding to a THC receptor site. ^.^

im not even on the news.. and i could make that bullshit fancy chart..... noticed he says there are factual aka actual numbers... and then they show a chart as if thats real... and also they dont even give us a link to the actual studies... or how they were conducted
forced natural selection over 20 years has made cannabis TWICE more potent than THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of years of natrual selection? if anything thats because of endo weed indoor grown cannabis... u see more of these operations b/c the drug war.. so really its the drug wars fault.. and this isnt bad either if pot is actually getting stronger... b/c it renders it more medicinal so u get more bang for ur buck..
My god, these people know nothing about this. It's been proven through many many studies that it's not physically addicting, I.E. you won't get withdrawals when you stop smoking even after long term heavy use. I'm living proof. It's the other kind, like chocolate or masturbating, which is wanting too much of a good thing. Just exercise self control fellas.
... and if we regulated it we could control just how potent the product is by regulating which strain and what methods are allowed to be used to produce it, similar to ß-thujone regulation of wormwood products in the EU.
the problem here is that Sanjay Gupta is not an expert on Marijuana and he is just parroting the bad information handed to him.
CNN presents him as an expert doctor who has dedicated his life to the study of marijuana - They should give a disclaimer stating that he is just repeating the false claims made by the prohibition movement.

so ur saying that
forced natural selection over 20 years has made cannabis TWICE more potent than THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of years of natrual selection? if anything thats because of endo weed indoor grown cannabis... u see more of these operations b/c the drug war.. so really its the drug wars fault.. and this isnt bad either if pot is actually getting stronger... b/c it renders it more medicinal so u get more bang for ur buck..

"Absinthe" is legal in europe and the UK after being banned for decades.
It is over 3 times stronger in alcohol volume than a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Why can't the modern media a) come up with a story idea. b) research it. c.) Report the facts. Somewhere in this formula they fuck up royally.

How is this guy credible? He's just parroting the DEA misinformation. NORML's website is a must for truth seekers.

the problem here is that Sanjay Gupta is not an expert on Marijuana and he is just parroting the bad information handed to him.
CNN presents him as an expert doctor who has dedicated his life to the study of marijuana - They should give a disclaimer stating that he is just repeating the false claims made by the prohibition movement.
