  • Sounds a lot like the score from Dr. Zhivago.

  • walt dickersons cover is fantastic-wish someone would post it

  • I saw this movie almost a decade ago, and I have to admit, the score resonates in my memory. I remember the whole movie.

  • Oh this music is so powerful! Lawrence of Arabia is a true work of art!

  • simply untouchable. The greatest movie of all time , the greatest soundtrack. The best role ever from peter Otoole, Omar Sharrif, Alec guiness, Antony quinn and a bunch of brilliant english chaps sykes the diplomat for example. No other movie has surpassed this one though Sparticus and Ben hur come close.

  • sweeping, Old "Hollywood' music

  • 1:00 and 140...EPIC!

  • This music is so obsessive! Definitely one of the greatest film themes and one of the greatest films of all time!

  • omg! i just got goosebumps all over..this music is magnificent!

  • I have always felt the music is inspired to a degree by Rachmaninoff.

  • What splendor. Why do some composers have such ease in writing spell-binding music as this will be one of the greatest mysteries of man. Composers as Jarre have been blessed with a Gift. One of the greatest movies of all time as well.

  • Quelle superbe musique !!!

  • Remakes are a triumph of vanity, lack of originality and people with more money than sense. Hardy ever is a remake worth looking at, never mind paying to see. Who in their right mind would want to remake this magnificent epic when it could not hope to touch the original for writing, acting, cinematography, direction and soundtrack?

  • I notice that this 1962 movie was never made the target of a remake for years, and it is easy to see why. I think that a Finnish remake is rumored, but they have their work cut out for them. How could any remake capture the spirit of what Maj. T. E. Lawence did as well as this grand epic succeeded in doing? And, (try as they may,) bettering Maurice Jarre's moving, majestic and timeless work of musical composition is beyond the realm of the possible.

  • @Cogniscent1

I agree! The only remake that I have thought was better then the original was 2003 remake of The Italian Job. That movie actually had an ending, compared to the 1960s version...

  • @8825TWO

The Three that I am thiking of the most are: Arthur, The Prisoner, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,

I think it is because the original actors bring such life to the character and define it in such a way that it is hard to see anyone else in that role.

  • @8825TWO

(cont.)For Arthur, Dudley Moore was Arthur. No one could top it. The Prisoner, the 2009 remake adds a bunch of junk that complicates the "purity", and meanings of the original plot. Plus, I can only see Patrick McGoohan as #6. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (The upcoming film, of which I have only seen trailers, but I will admit that I am biased. Alec Guinness IS George Smiley, and that is that.)

  • @herbgurl82 Tinker, tailor... isn't even out yet, you can't judge it, but considering the incredible cast it has lined up you have to expect that it will be good.

  • @8825TWO

(cont, part 2.)Maybe it is because I grew up watching all of these with my dad, and I guess seeing it differently spoils the memories of that connection that I had with my dad as a kid. There is a reason why they are called classics.

  • @herbgurl82 Interesting perspective. But I don't agree with Cogniscent1's belief that remakes are not worth anything. It's just not true.

  • My favorite movie of all time, and the music is so stirring!

  • Legendary Sam Spiegel producer of The African Queen, Suddenly Last Summer

The Bridge on RIver Kwai was given complete autonomy by Columbia. Director David Lean and Alec Guinness, Jose Ferrer, Anthony Quinn and in one of the screen's great performances Peter O Toole created a movie masterwork. For me this is the finest film I have ever seen. Composer Maurice Jarre was a genius Kudos to Spiegel, Lean, Jarre, Guinness, Quinn, Hawkins and O Toole and to an incomparable Omar Sharif . Masterpiece

  • Lol

My old friend AzmaraisBack is one hell of a clear person Lol (InshAllah that's what I think anyways)

What's wrong in what he said?...Whenever we Muslims show the facts, we get negative rating on it, but when the Jews and all the Islam haters lie - no one says anything Lol

I guess that's what they call "Democracy" Lol

  • @TheNameIsAlZubair You mean like Hitler?

  • @paullubliner SAY WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!

That pip squeak Lawrence is 10 times worse than Hitler

At least Hitler died and his shit stopped, but the pip squeak Lawrence died and his shit made it easier for the Middle-East and almost ALL the East to become poor and oppressed

  • @TheNameIsAlZubair Blame the Arabs for their own ignorance and infighting amonst themselves. Perhaps your people would rather lick the boot heels of their Former Turkish Masters Today?

  • @TheNameIsAlZubair targeting jews isn't helping you muslims. wtf does that have to do with democracy? democracy is a political system.

perhaps people wouldnt give you a low rating if you weren't so passive aggressive.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOL...I see some good people here, who know of the true nature of this "Lawrence of Arabia"

  • More like "Lawrence that fucked up the Islamic Empire and all Arabia"

He deceived Malik Faisal into fighting with the Islamic Empire...The Ottoman Blessed Islam Empire, may Allah protect all their grand children, starting from the ONLY true Muslim Leader, Ardugan, and onwards

  • ACTUALLY Lawrence didnt decieve u he fought for muslim wankers for some reason nd it was me a the good ol britsh who fucked up up,,, and im pleased we did, we dont wan ignorant wanker like you ruling the world now do we?

  • Comment removed

  • @mrwill2408 What a racist mother-bleeping douchebag you are! There's a cancer eating at the soul of the world... look in the mirror and you'll see a sample of what I mean...

  • King Faisal knew the culprit and when he (May Allah forgive him, and make his only place to go to - Paradise, since he got *deceived* into killing his innocent Muslim brothers T) found out he was tricked (after it was too late),

  • and that America only wanted "to make use" (more like force us Muslims and Arabs to be their slaves by putting their people, and call them "our Arabic leaders") of the natural sources of oil and petrol that only belongs to whoever is on that "black gold" treasure, and not forced to be given away by "our" leaders

  • He told the Americans that he was ready to go back to being Beduins. if it means that he had to be a slave to someone other than Allah, and protect the pride of him and his people - he "mysteriously" died the next day...

And "Kadim al Haramain" (more like "the nice friend" of America) took over after doin "things" even to the ones after King Faisal died (may Allah forgive him and make him in the top level of Paradise Allahuma Ameen)

  • The pip squeak Lawrence is also one of the main reasons for what's happening to Palestine, since the Islamic Epire, the Ottoman Empire were the only blessed strong Muslims that were in the way of America, Europe, Engeltra (the real name of "England"/"UK")

  • And obviously the stronger reason for our weakness as Muslims and Arabs, is that first of all, we got away from the Quran, and secondly - Half-Naked or Naked girls (since you can see their Bra very clearly in Summer) roaming free, with more rights, that the Bacteria/Oink Oink/Pigs and Monkies the Jews made

  • But please remember this IRON CLAD SOLID RULE OF LIFE AND NATURE:

"Whatever goes around comes around" :))

    ((: Mmmmmmwah :))

And the Jews are struggling, and not beating Hamas (like everyone thinks) -They are aiming at anyone, without any sense of direction, and with no mercy

That's what happens to a Rat, when they are at the end of their life, after getting wounded

  • great movie

peter otoole's incredible acting really made this movie one of the best

  • @iTzeXile13 ...and yet he lost the Academy Award to Gregory Peck's performance in To Kill a Mockingbird! Even though best movie, director, and five other categories went to L of A, the man who made it what it was, was snubbed. Not to demean Peck's performance, I think O'Toole's had more depth and mystique.

  • @NVanWendy

yea n he also lost in 1968 when he played king henry in lion in winter(one of his best performances), his costar katherine hepburn won but not him wtf?

  • @iTzeXile13 Indeed, one has to wonder if there was some behind-the-scenes agreements for some reason. He's not the only one to be snubbed, though!

  • Columbia Pictures, Sam Spiegel, David Lean, Maurice Jarre, Alec Guinness, Peter O Toole created the greatest movie of all time. Jarre's score is the finest I have ever heard in a film..

  • The only way I've been able to acquire the original recordings is on the LP, the CD for those is out of print now.

  • this movie and bridge on the river kwai Blew me away

  • one of the greatest movie

  • Just watcthed this film again and I gotta say it's still one of best films ever made. I wish this would get a rerealese to theaters; that would be an awesome experience.

  • @AngryDragon22

I save the use of the word "awesome" for things or moments that really are. I can tell you that when as a lad in Melbourne, Australia, and this film was fresh out of the can, a new print in it's magnificent 70mm Panavision, appeared on the wide screen to that music, I was completely spellbound. If you love cinema, it is worth hunting to find a Cinema with 70mm projectors, and find out when it will be shown. With internet searches, this is not so difficult now. You will love it.

  • god i love this music

  • This year in band were playing this(: but its called arabian nights and its a little different. but this is the 3rd part

  • One of the greatest things in this film definitely had to be the soundtrack, completely memorable.

  • I remember watching this in Karachi, West Pakistan as a little boy. I think it was the Capitol cinema. So many wonderful memories!!!!

  • Jean Michel Jarre's father right?

  • Yep

  • Right ,he worked with him on electronic scores like witness .

  • lulz lulz lulz

  • One of the greatest movie scores ever composed.

  • @CatStevensDieHardFan Well, it's FRENCH music made in FRANCE. So of course it's amazingly good.

  • @Rachegotter Can't argue with that. :)

  • OMV what a wonderful score. Lawrence of Arabia is one of the greatest movies ever made, and its music made it even more beautiful.. congratulations Mr. Jarre!! :D

  • This Theme fascinates me.....

  • RIP.

  • Si...R.I.P...ciao anche da me.

  • Maurice Jarre...rip..ciao

  • Wonderful! Best part, 0:58!

  • I agree! Great soundtrack!

  • Maurice Jarre is no ordinary composer.

  • He had to pretend he was disappointed when the half dozen composers they had in mind for lawrence of arabia dropped out malcolm arnold was laughing at the movie because he was drinking too much ,richard rogers wrote a love theme[there is no love in it its a war movie ]...

  • Sir Malcolm, inebriated????

  • what is POTC?

  • Are you talking about 'Passion of the Christ'? Because if you are, I think you are out of line. Lawrence of Arabia is an old movie which is why it sounds different to POTC, and the music should be respected.

  • No, Pirates Of The Caribbean - the love theme in particular. Music is not wine, in general only snobs say its superior simply because its older.

  • Comment removed

  • i'm a huge POTC fan but i would have to disagree about the music being oscar worthy. Although the music is very bold, its not very original meaning it sounds like everything else Han Zimmer wrote for other movies.

  • Comment removed

  • Is this the greatest film theme music ever?

  • probably

  • beautiful music

  • Maurice Jarre: Fantastic!!
