And last, this is not a normal "sheepdog". I don't know why they translated it like that, Sarplaninac is an actual breed of a dog. This is a "custom" breed from former Yugoslavia that's part wolf (ironic?) and they are HUGE, super powerful and I personaly watched a fight when I was a kid where one of these dogs bit a pitbulls leg in half...literally, the other half of leg just fell off 10 seconds in to the fight. Wildly the pitbull kept fighting but was killed by Sarplaninac shortly. I cried. :(
I am from this country and some of you people miss the point of this video entirely. First off, this is a documentary, something like you would see here on Animal Planet. A large Pitull would kill a wolf in a solo fight. Hell I know a guy in alaska whose Yellow lab killed a damn wolf. The title of this video is wrong... there was only 1 or 2 wolves, and at least 3-4 dogs! Plus, the man who was swinging his stick at the wolves! @1sowild Actually one on one they are pretty close. The dogs are bred to be as big and as strong as possible so some are actually a little bigger and stronger then wolves. They usually have more then one dog as there are usually more then one wolf. Obviously you want to put the odds in your favor to protect the flock. But you are right, if used properly, the dogs are ment to be more of a deterent. Kangals seem to run off predators, only going to full attack when being un able to drive them away.

And shepherd will always come as fast as he can, but dogs are always there first. Your ancestors, too probably, but if they lived in a place with such Central Eurasian Mountain dogs, a biological clade of the dog family tree that shares ancestors with the mastiff group, they were not as prepared as they could have been at killing Grey Wolves.
@1sowild if you watch closely the other dogs just corner the wolves,it is actually just one dog that kills them both. These are caucasian mountain dogs,possibly the most protective and one of the largest dog breeds. They were bred for this,and do damn well at killing wolves and most other predators

And last, this is not a normal "sheepdog". I don't know why they translated it like that, Sarplaninac is an actual breed of a dog. This is a "custom" breed from former Yugoslavia that's part wolf (ironic?) and they are HUGE, super powerful and I personaly watched a fight when I was a kid where one of these dogs bit a pitbulls leg in half...literally, the other half of leg just fell off 10 seconds in to the fight. Wildly the pitbull kept fighting but was killed by Sarplaninac shortly. I cried. :(

I am from this country and some of you people miss the point of this video entirely. First off, this is a documentary, something like you would see here on Animal Planet. Second, to whoever said dogs would die if they went to woods without food...egh..NO, they go back to DEFAULT instinct and will kill ANYTHING to survive, but they will always survive (this INCLUDES humans as proven in Bosnia during the war).

@rstoian8 The point of what just happenned wasn't to see who would win a fight when fully fed. The reality is; just like the wolf had no choice but to eat those sheep, those villagers also rely on those sheep and maybe cannot afford to ignore the wolves.

A large Pitull would kill a wolf in a solo fight. Hell I know a guy in alaska whose Yellow lab killed a damn wolf. The Pit would be alot stronger and is bred for solo fighting. the wolf is a pack hunter that uses numbers to fight. Plus once a fight begins the pit literally has 0 survival instinct. The wolf does. The Pit will kill or die trying the wolf will run away from a fair fight.

Wolves mostly eat wild game and are afraid of people, but will sometimes go after sheep and other livestock. But, the wolf is not an evil animal- they are a highly social top predator, and the cousins of our dogs. Better to deal with wolves, than to be like Germany, where they've wiped them out.

The title of this video is wrong... there was only 1 or 2 wolves, and at least 3-4 dogs! Plus, the man who was swinging his stick at the wolves! I am all for the dogs and owners protecting the sheep, however.. lets be honest, the wolves were outnumbered! Everybody has BS stories of LGD dogs beating wolves, but it's usually lies, or.. there it takes 2-3 dogs to take on a wolf. In a straight up 1 on 1 fight, a wolf can kill a CO, Sarpliniac, Kangal, etc! FACT!!!!

One night we were partying real late and started giving his little 5 kg Chihuahua dog cocaine and tequila. That little toy dog went bat shit crazy and attacked a huge 100 kg male wolf and ripped it's fucking throat out. Swear to God man. Saw it with my own two eyes. It was a gory ass blood bath. We thought we were gonna lose a hand trying to pry that little dog off the dead wolf.

@1sowild Actually one on one they are pretty close. The dogs are bred to be as big and as strong as possible so some are actually a little bigger and stronger then wolves. They usually have more then one dog as there are usually more then one wolf. Obviously you want to put the odds in your favor to protect the flock. But you are right, if used properly, the dogs are ment to be more of a deterent. Kangals seem to run off predators, only going to full attack when being un able to drive them away.

And shepherd will always come as fast as he can, but dogs are always there first. Your ancestors, too probably, but if they lived in a place with such Central Eurasian Mountain dogs, a biological clade of the dog family tree that shares ancestors with the mastiff group, they were not as prepared as they could have been at killing Grey Wolves.

@1sowild if you watch closely the other dogs just corner the wolves,it is actually just one dog that kills them both. These are caucasian mountain dogs,possibly the most protective and one of the largest dog breeds. They were bred for this,and do damn well at killing wolves and most other predators

@1sowild at the beginning o the video, there were 3 wolfs. one o them "pulled" the sarplaninac out of the sheeps, while the other 2 started to kill the poor things. when the dog appeared he immiadelty killed the bigger wolf. the other dogs were distracting the smaller wolf, and that weirdo is an idiot(they repeated his yeal sevral times). So.. the sarplaninac killed 2 wolfs(we dont know what was with the 3-rd one ) with a little help of his fellows. and stop complaining about the dog's strenght

Pack animals typically only fight one on one when they're afraid and backed into a corner, given no other option. A game-bred pitbull will fight one on one fearlessly. ;-)
