  • Good to see he is still kicking, one of my fav singers. I'm a bit disappointed that he isn't showing much respect for one of his most fan favorite songs. I remember seeing him with my dad in 73 and 76, good times.

  • @SRNF Thanks for your comment! This was a special show for Todd's diehard fans who have kept up with his music from year to year...So "Hello It's Me" was an impromptu gift to them, and they appreciated it! It wasn't like he had performed or practiced it in years, so no one expected it to be polished...LOL! I'm glad you like Todd Rundgren and that you and your Dad have special memories of his music!!!

  • Actually, he's known for being really funny and a showman rolled into one, so he was taking a song we'd heard for many years and tried to be funny with it.

If you look up Daryl's House and Todd Rundgren 2009 they do an awesome rendition together of "Can We Still Be Friends" -- just guys hanging around, looking like they're a bunch of friends making a band in their parents' garage. It's awesome!

  • @Jennifr1966

Think they are doing another show together on Kauai this week for Daryl's house at well...Todd's house...

  • fantastic Todd is a legend .. please come downunder soon

  • Yes, Todd, going "throwback" is painful. But we love, we love, we love this, and we thank you.

  • Thanks again for all the great vids you did from this show. I could watch over and over to relive that night again and again. I wish it could happen all over again this year. Two of the best New Years Eve's ever were Todd shows. The first one was with Utopia when Deface The Music was released.

    Happy New Year!!!!

  • As much as I've always liked this song and Todd, I would have been disappointed to have paid to see this version of the song with all that talking in the middle of it. I've still got this song on a 45 somewhere.

  • it's called artist/audience interaction and we all loved it!!!! Nothing about this show was disappointing!

  • He's like, "why am I still doing this song 40 years after I wrote this????..." he better be glad he's still AROUND 40 years later!

  • He's still in the music business precisely because he Doesn't do this song over and over again. That would have driven him crazy a long time ago. Instead, he adapts and changes and grows constantly so that he doesn't get tired of his music and he brings his true fans along with him!

  • He's got a great sense of humor ;) I think it's awesome how he can sing this song so soulfully and rip on it at the same time.

I can understand why he wouldn't want to perform the song all the time, though. It's not his only good song, after all. But... isn't that the nature of such things? Your signature song will always be the one you don't want to solely be known by, or the one you can't stand, or the one that will force you to punch a one-legged nun if you have to perform it one more time.

  • why does he not want to sing his only hit?

  • Comment removed

  • ..because some believe it's his only hit.

  • this tune is not his "only hit". where have you been for the last 40 years?

  • ok"i saw the light"--the other 1

  • why do you feel the need to make negative comments if any at all???

  • why do you have to feel you have to respond--like a dumbass--leave it alone-its a reasonable question

  • lol

  • Wow - still makes me cry

Guess I'm going to Hammersmith in february!

  • i luv him, can't wait to see him on 10/18 :-)

  • HE NEEDS TO SING IT ALL THE TIME!! THATS WHY THEY GO TO SEE HIM !!! ALSO NEEDS TO STOP DOING THE THING WHEN HE STOPS THE BAND AND TALKS FOR 30 secs about nothing !!!

  • His voice sounds better than it has in years.Todd is..just amazing

  • TODD is GODD

  • This man can sing. What a great song, what a great performer Todd is. Thanks for this great one.

  • Oh, I thought he was saying "No BAD pictures on the web!" I guess only Todd knows for sure!

  • Some people think he's saying not to put this on the we, but his actual comment is "Hey, no fat pictures on the web" :-).

  • We missed that!

    Thanks for the clarification, D!

  • I NEVER thought I would hear this live. When the first chords were played - you will hear a blood-curdling scream. That was me, I was right up front and then I ran back to my seat to get my video camera. IT WAS AWESOME. Mary Anne aka Nonnikat

  • Ha, ha! My husband made this video, Mary Anne, and since I was standing right beside him and I screamed at the top of my lungs too, it was undoubtedly me you heard on this recording!

But I'm sure many of us were overcome by the sheer surprise of this song being given to us as a gift!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • yes, there were many screams over that special treat. At my age, I didn't think I could still scream like that but I surprised myself.!!!!! It was great to share it with so many loyal fans. Thanks, Mary Anne

  • From what we understand, there was a short list of specials songs requested, but Todd himself made the decision to perform "HIM" for this dedicated group of ToddFans, who traveled from all over the US to be here.

    Thanks to RundgrenRadio d o t c o m for putting this all together!

  • *cracking up* I didn't hear the remark to Kasim, but he was probably right. Let's do it all again!

  • We went back and watched the uncut/unedited video file, and the remark to Kasim is not there. Dang, I want to hear that too!

    Play it again, Todd! =D

  • "Can't you tell? We never do this song" ;^D

  • Kaz seemed to be "on" for this one!

TR earlier said "Kaz, you're the only sober one here tonight".

"We're at least as good as a cover band" -TR

    =D

  • Awesome video and a rare treat for a Todd gig!

  • Doug,

As mentioned earlier, many thanks to you and CruiserMel for putting this show together!

See you at the next RundgrenRadio event!

  • Wow, what a moment, huh? Happy New Year to all who were there and to those who couldn't be there, too.

  • CruserMel,

This was a real treat, and just for TODDNYE!

Many thanks to you and Doug for pulling this show together. We had a great time, and look forward to the next RundgrenRadio event! =D

    Happy New Year!

    Peace in 2009~

  • Thanks again for your part in organizing this deal, CM. I had soooo much fun and even got my Toddlehead signed! (via Robert the Roadie)
