  • Y U NO PLAY SKYRIM?!

  • Who sings the song used in the lara croft clip? "everybody feels the sunshine"

  • Lets look at some of the titles for popular games in the 80's and early 90's: Super Mario Bros 2 Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Breath of Fire 2 Final Fantasy 2 Dragon Warrior 2 Golden Axe 2 Road Rash 2 Shinobi 2 Ninja Gaiden 2 Double Dragon 2 X-Men 2 Phantasy Star 2 Shining Force 2 Thunder Force 2 Mortal Kombat 2 Street Fighter 2 See where I'm going with this? My advice: quit the QQ and get a PS3 if you want new IP.
  • @Bloodthr0e yep that's exactly why i love my PS3!!!

  • Dark Cloud 3 would actually be amazing.

Good games should be allowed to have sequels, but a good game doesn't have a sequel that's exactly the same.

  • i fucking loved mirrors edge... i wish they made a second or at least added a shit load of new

    missions

  • Some of the reboots I like....But i do understand what he is saying. I tend to get bored of the same old MW or BF i know it makes money but i feel like gaming now is more about the money then the enjoyment and risks of making a game. Heck in the 80's and 90's that's when some of these title made it big without really knowing if they were going to do well. I like Indie games because of that they don't really have much to lose when making a game. Maybe when the economy gets back to its feet.:)

  • Justin Bieber

Y U NO Never Say Never?

  • y u no buy atlus games?!? or play on pc?

  • Catherine?

  • lol

  • I can see in the case of Tomb Raider where a reboot is more appropriate, since she was in need of it. My beef is with the constant sequels that get whored out every year from developers like Treyarch (COD), where they just change the campaign, and make a few adjustments with the multiplayer, but leave the core gameplay (the MOST IMPORTANT PART OF A VIDEO GAME) unchanged. If innovation happens in the gameplay, there's not too much to complain about, but if it's depended on, you've got a problem.

  • thumbs up if you thought this has something to do with Yu Darvish :D

  • call of duty in world war 1 :D

  • @smilegeek123 if you knew anything of history you'd know that would be a bad idea..

  • Fucking Reddit scum.

  • FUCK YOU, I LIKE CALL OF THE DEAD

  • Samey samey - such is the rest of life. KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM FTW!

  • good pointless rant

  • that was and excellent rant

  • Naughty Dog's The Last Of Us

    nuff said

  • @Sanchezproject that is only ONE good game that won't come out in atleast a year's time, during this year, its going to be filled with disappointing games or decent games that will become boring really quick. its quiet sad actually cuz gaming is my only hobbie during my free time and now its brutally fucked by the industry =]

  • Minecraft 2?

  • @TheJamon79 It wouldn't be a new IP

  • Everything the guy said was right, the only thing is that it was right ten years ago as well as today. AAA devs go for the sure thing, and get it wrong/right due to incompetence/skill, whilst Indies get it wrong 99/100 but 100 is a hum dinger. Way of the world my son.

  • most games that I see advertise are shooting game mix with somthing, little on racing, sports still got popularity, rpg and fighting games have a good fanbase to have them sell pretty good.

  • lol call of duty modern warfare SEVENNNN

  • GEARS OF WAR 4 RISE OF SKORGE!!!

  • Call of Duty modern warfare....7! best...title...Ever!

  • History will repeat itself. The large western companies will fail and innovation will come from indie game companies and Japan. That's how it's always been, because we in the west are scared dead of failing so innovation will be strangled in order to maximize profits. This is the case in all entertainment industries. Movies, Music, Television and now also Gaming. Look at Atari, Sierra On-Line, Accolade, Microprose, Westwood, Midway, Bullfrog etc. etc. etc.

  • @mocthezuma I wholeheartedly agree. As long as greedy unimaginative people are in charge of imaginative people the whole gaming industry will fail. You can't be Peter Pan forever.

  • repost

  • i love the pic why you no make no new ip lol

on a serious not im sick of playing games with humans in them exept for mario give me fantasy any day ratchet jak daxter sonic

  • When there is only so much money to spend on games I end up buying one title rather than spread the same money on cheaper games amoungst two or three titles from different companies.

  • there were good games like bayonetta, nier, borderlands etc. Akuma's wrath looks good

  • I like your commentary and agree with it. Sadly, I the industry seems irrevocably broken,

  • I'm really excited to play VUVZELA

  • SSX was going to be serious but due to the amount of bad feedback that got, it went back to being crazy.

  • I'm a retro gamer, so I can't answer your questions, lol. I will say that I do not like the AAA games of today and prefer the simpler days of Snes, Genesis, and Neo Geo.

  • I like these variety gamespot vids. Entertaining and informing.

  • I dissagree with the Lara bit, its supposed to be a prequel leading up to her strong minded personality she's always had anyhow.

Total reboots are simply a poor way of doing what they should have done in their heads for a sequel. Its not hard, as you have a fresh base. Furthering a character's development and having a new story arc covers the rest. Its not Madden!

Look at Legend next to the originals and how they subtly improved her and the mechanics. Its more the 90's era style execution.

  • well yeah, the games industry is just like hollywood now - innovation gets the human centipede treatment :) - its all by design. Have any of you every played Invasion 1944? its a mod for ARMA 2 - and its the best WWII shooter EVER. period (and its free). Sounds like most of you need to start modding, because its the ONLY place (besides indi devs) that you will find original ideas.

  • DW everyone, by 2019 i will be in the games industry, and i have some plans

  • Personally this generation of games started out amazing, you got gears of war, oblivion, motor storm, resistance, etc. And then the grandaddy of all gaming years... 2007.Which to me at least was the last truly amazing gaming year. After 2007 games went to shit, 2008 was meh, 2009 was fucking terrible,2010 had red dead and that was about it. And 2011 had the most overrated games i have ever seen. Every game gets a 9.5 or 10/10 nowadays. Even if there glitchy unpolished messes....(cough) BF3,Skyrim.

  • there are many recent ip(like only a few years old)that are good & unique, the stereotype of the market having nothing but fps its just a dumb stereotype, there are developers like bioware, bethesda, thq, platinum games, etc that makes amazing games, besides in a few years there will be new ip that are unlike what we have seen before, just wait, when the moment comes you'll see what i mean...

  • I came cause I love the Y U NO meme xD

  • @JoSeFHdz and stayed for the video!

  • @nukeclears indeed i did :)

  • @JoSeFHdz ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

  • and btw to everyone who sh!ts on cod being the same game since the last decade, why go out and buy it then? they sell millions of copies. Stop whining or just boycott, ffs

  • meh.. there's always going to be doom-mongers like him. Thats how news, hell all the media works. There are plenty of innovative games out there just gotta look. I bet after he finished the video he put COD in xbox/ps3.

  • Wtf...no playback on iPods.....the hell with this......

  • Japan has got allot of new ideas from their smaller markets. Sadly with the politicians and large companies wanting to screw over the internet, my access to those new innovative Japanese titles are getting harder considering that most Japanese games that ARE unique, are not supported by the publishers as they have got no confidence to bring them to the western countries.

  • I would buy those new IPs but they all cost $60

  • With politicians ruining the internet, it seems like it will be harder to find new IPs because with new laws coming in, even with an idea that looks just a bit of inspired from another, will be taken though the copyright infringement courts that run like a circus.

That is the reason why it is hard to come up with original IPs, because of the copyright laws getting too out of hand, nobody would be trying any new ideas in the fear of being sued.

  • Y U NO LET ME WATCH ON MOBILE

  • Lucklly SWTOR came out so im good for a long time.

  • i dont want to even play this amazing race game let alone watch the fucking add every time i watch a video

  • Let's be quite honest: Your new successful IPs you mention are very "high-concept" games that could be quite easily couched in derivative terms:

For example, Dead Island? Left 4 Dead meets Borderlands.

  • This is why we love steam. Amazing indie games like hard reset for cheap.

  • Thumbs up if you think a new graphics engine could save Call of Duty

  • what the game at 0:43 never heard or seen anything about it.

  • lol yokza .... BANG XD LOL

  • its very simple stop making so much FPS games and maybe go back to the adventure/action/platformer games where the worlds were unique and different and not some random soldier guy in a war against terrorists all the time.

  • i wish...[ ip man 3 :) ]

  • This actually has legitimate content that makes sense. Gamespot has had it's bs moments here and there, but i can safely say they really explained a lot here.

  • In hollywood the same thing is happening. It is just like Atlas Shrugged.

  • Not entirley true. Game developers make sequeals for 1, its sometimes hard to think of a new idea, and 2 their is usally a high demand for sequeals. Uncharted 3 for instance. People went crazy for uncharted 2 and wanted a 3rd part now they are working on something new. LBP2 and Arkham city at first we thought no sequeal was needed for those two but MM wanted to give players new ways to create and share and Rockstar expanded on the batman universe. Sometimes sequeals are best. Mw3 disapointment

  • @Rewind245 its rocksteady...not rockstar

  • @redshift912 thank you

  • @Rewind245 hope that didnt sound douchy //wasnt trying to be.

  • @redshift912 Lol not at all. Eaither way Rocksteady and rockstar are both amazing development companies.

  • once the sopa bill was announced, the gaming industry showed their true colors unfortunantly, and i have zero expectations for the next decade, that we will ever see new or semi-new innovations in the gameing world, unless it is from independant and hopefully.. Original thinkers with a goal other then appeasing their soul less investors and their lobbyists..

  • Moral of the story:STOP PLAYING CALL OF DUTY

  • its about time they post something worth watching.

  • Call of duty madern warfare SEVEN!!

  • Shut up and stop whining.

  • "New ideas are for communists"

  • Wow!! Gamespot actually posted an intering video...

    I'm... out of words...amazing.

  • .......still waiting for a Mirrors Edge 2.....

  • I can't wait for the Last Of Us! it's going to be kick ass

  • Also, Intellectual Property 2: Ideamageddon ftw.

  • ENOUGH OF THIS SOPA GARBAGE! I SUBSCRIBED TO SEE WHAT GAMES ARE COMING OUT!

  • Maybe if the industry had some creativity, they wouldn't have to use all their money on lawyers.

  • What about Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning?

  • I can't wait until Witcher 2 comes out on xbox.

  • @Medevil9908 that isn't an exclusive....

  • @Reloading26 In GameInformer's article about The Witcher 2 coming to consoles they only listed Xbox 360 under the platforms section.

  • @Medevil9908 It's on the PC too...therefore, it's not an exclusive...

  • Just wait for me to be done with university. I swear to GOD that my games will be original.

  • hell ya brother we need some fresh blood

  • Everything is too mainstream. Why buy something new if it's going to be the same as something I already like?

  • Am here because I press a button to get here. O_O

  • I like a good sequel, but I'd like to see some games take a different approach other than the same thing just better. IPs and indie games need to be created every now to create interest. Crappy games also need to be created. It allows publishers to learn something from mistakes, and hopefully fix them in the future.

  • @TheFabricOfTime Very true. It's just unfortunate that the nature of the medium demands developers to be extremely cautious when creating games.

It's not like film, literature, art, or music, where it is possible, though perhaps not always feasible, to create something of immense quality for the price of a second hand car. There are of course rare exceptions to this rule, Jason Rohrer's games for example.

  • Not a problem with Sony lol. Naughty Dog was already working on their new IP The Last Of Us with Uncharted and so is Sony Santa Monica (God of War) with Starhawk. Also Guerilla Games (Killzone), Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet), Sucker Punch (Infamous), and Ready At Dawn (God of War Origins) are all making new IP's for the PS3! First party devs FTW!

  • Good thing I unsubbed from IGN and subbed here. Their vids and info are so much more resourceful.

  • @Babb26 You are able to sub 2 channels at the same time!

    You should try.

  • @Babb26 u can have both....

  • Wait, but what about casual gaming? I don't see a lot of sequels for Indie titles, like Braid, either.

  • This is because console games require such higher development costs. The PC market is future of innovation since it is the only platform where Indie developers can support themselves.

  • @EPICsliceOFcake Terraria is a great example of what you are talking about

  • although i like new innovative games i also remember games like BRINK and stuff which really, really sucked :P there are some squeals im looking forward too for 2012 and i think where they can really still innovate is in MMO's, they just need a good, very good story writer

  • I want to know what Overstrike is all about! Haven't heard from that game since it's reveal trailer so yeah...

  • Alice Madness Returns was awesome....

  • What's to be done? It seems rather obvious to me.

Step 1) Support upcoming developers and innovative ideas by buying more indie games, and buying new IP's brand new.

Step 2) Discourage monotony, greed, and intellectual laziness among developers and publishers by avoiding at all costs things like DLC plans, online passes, preorder bonuses etc... And if you must buy the latest additions to big franchises, wait until they have been subject to severe price cuts or get them pre-owned.

  • Call of Duty, Modern Warfare SEVEN!!

  • Y U No shut the FUCK UP !!

  • Y u no mobile device

  • not enought DLCs for games overall

  • wouldn't mind a new MGS :P but otherwise I want new, cool and interesting things.

  • i like these

  • I completely agree with your soap box. I even got a box of pop corn to go along with it. The current trend will keep going as it has and somone we've never heard or atleast not much of will have to throw a suprise upper cut to the industry.

  • We all no tho GTA5 will be Bad ass for sure

  • @MrFsinner Hopefully bro hopefully.

  • The video stated truth. But I do feel as though the gaming community can make a difference. If new IPs are successful and earn more money than they do now then more publishers will let developers try out new things. It's partly up to us to buy new stuff and support innovation monetarily and not buy or pirate the shit (MW3).

  • @tdm110

So, you are saying we should buy shitty games just because they are "new and innovative"? Good luck with that.

It's up to THEM to make games we want to buy, innovation or not.

  • @LaughingUltros No, buy games that are good. Most people don't necessarily consider all these sequels as good games, mostly as the same crap over and over again. Buy games that innovate successfully.

  • @tdm110 Well then, how about I keep buying games I want to play, then? That works alright for most people as far as I know =P

  • new ip the same old song and dance is good but after a while you get board with it

  • THE LAST GUARDIAN ... plz add a colossus plz plz

  • im waiting for my ps vita, and the new SSX:) Maybe The Last of Us also...

  • @VanishedDecoy Wow you're stupid. People like you are called newfags. Newfags know nothing about 4chan or the orgin of the memes but still spread it to braindead faggots. I know more about memes than you and I know that's a fact, so don't be so stupid.

  • @emoshady95 all 4chan faggots are gay... stfu

  • my top 2 most anticipated games this year are Ni No Kuni and Journey mostly because THEY'RE GENUINELY NEW GAMES!!

  • @Permafry42 Kingdoms Of Amalur Reckoning is a new game as well. ;)

  • This is partially our fault, players, because there lots of new IPs around there, but everyone complains:> OH ITS CALL OF*** OH IT'S A GOD OF*** COPYPAST and so on...

  • now i want a flying squirrel simulator!

  • So.... what's wrong with memes again? I fail to understand how anyone who doesn't live in their mom's basement would find this stuff the slighted bit annoying.

  • Y U NO MAKE NEW "genre"???

  • hey, i liked alice.

  • he has a point , every new title was crap

  • call of duty, SEVEN! :3

  • @joeysbitch1 Seven was COD:Black ops.

  • @joeysbitch1 :3

  • Damn I love this guy

  • hey this video was actually good, and actually thought out. Good job

  • HAHAHA intellectual property 2 that really summed it up for me what game developers brainstorm.

  • what game did he mention after the witcher 2 ?

  • @kolinmartz fear 3

  • Most of the new IPs shown in this video didn't sell because... well, because they are not good.

And games are WAY too expensive to make these days, the technology race + the declining economy placed the gaming industry in a very deep hole.

Next consoles should NOT be more powerful than the PS3 or the 360, otherwise it will actually collapse, publishers are already closing doors because they can't handle the costs of making games.

Combine the rise of costs with the decline of sales and... well.

  • you forgot about the new halo that was in the past before the first halo but some how has better graphics :P

  • tomb raider!!!

  • shitty memes, unsubbed. please stay on that shithole reddit/9gag

  • indy games are refreshing and will bring new ideas to major titles in the future

  • i guess they really do want more sequels and more fully priced map packs

  • Duke Nukem Forever one word ALL OF THE STUFF IS INAPROPEATE

  • Wow, what's with the all of the negative feedback? Do people want constant sequels of Call of Duty? O.o

  • @VanishedDecoy

    Actually, yes.

  • Y U NO STOP USING THOSE STUPID FACES?

  • ur adds r so annoying
