thank you so much for posting this. the song, poem and performance are so exquisite!
I think there's a misprint in the translation of the poem-shouldn't it be "instaed of the empty word word 'thou'" and "How do I love you" (since 'ty' is informal and 'vy' is formal')? Such a beautiful poem. Thanks again :)
although, i have my favorite sopranos, however, it is always exiting to listen to other sopranos. they all have such wonderfully rich voices. irina sounds enlightening. BEAUTIFUL voice!!!
Viewing this brief clip was first exposure to Ms.Mataeva.Just judging from this short piece,I must say she has a beautiful lyric soprano voice.Khankonchak,do you know if she has any commercial recordings available yet? I would love to listen to them.Grazie mille for sharing this piece and making the public(at least the American public here on YouTube),more aware of this lovely voice.Brava Mataeva!
Mataeva sings on a CD of Shostakovich's score for the 1930 silent film "Odna", which was directed by Grigory Kozintsev. The recording is by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony with conductor Mark Fitz-Gerald, and it was just recently released on the Naxos label. Unfortunately, this is to my knowledge the only widely distributed recording with her participation.
I personally like Irina more than Netrebko, she has a more charm in the voice (who cares at the end about the "size of the instrument", the voice must carry and that's it), much warmer personality and sings from the heart. And is never uot of tune. Brava, Irina!
Me too, Desideria. I like Irina's style and not particularly Anna's. That is a personal opinion though. As a male, Irina is a lot more attractive too.
What a treat to hear you again. Your Tatyana in Marseilles was nearly as breathtaking as this short clip. I hope we get to hear much more.
There is a short clip on my account of that first orchestra rehearsal's Kuda. Irina was always very patient with my russian, and to hear a native singer here reminds me how much there is to learn still. I look forward to seeing you again and learning more!
I have NOTHING against Anna and enjoy much of her work. There are other Russian sopranos also worthy of attention, however. I will NOT tolerate anyone denigrating this video for non-musical reasons, i.e. because of a rabid allegiance to another soprano or a grudge against someone who enjoys Mataeva. If you have an INTELLIGENT comment to make, positive or otherwise, please post. But I expect a sense of decorum from those who choose to make observations about my videos.
Beautiful voice ... hope to see her one day.

Wait; isn't "Ti i Vi" by Pushkin? I'm pretty sure this is correct, since I had to memorize this poem in my college Russian class.

swanningaround , Irina is not a male - or at least
I hope so.

I think swanningaround means that HE, as a male, finds Irina attractive. I find her very attractive too.
