  • Wow, what a cool song. xox

  • BTW, this song wasn't written by Shatner, but by an artist named Nick Hornby. The daughter in the song is Hornby's daughter, hence the references that aren't actually Shatner's daughter. Aimee Mann and Ben Folds are contributing artists, not the creative team behind the song.

  • This video is genius, and suits the song very well.

  • heard this song on KDHX a few minuets ago. Shatner and ben are awesome.

  • We all know it's another great Ben Folds song, but I didn't get the video. How is this about a father and is forty something year old daughter?

  • Who is the girl in the video supposed to be? The singer is singing about his daughter who he says is in her early forties, but this girl looks like a teenager - late twenties at most.

  • Man that hurts , I miss you baby girl !

  • Ben Folds and Bill did a great job of creating a unique haunting sound and a quality, if little known, album.

  • I love how Shatner creates a flawed character trying but failing to make a connection. Most artists gravitate toward hero or villain. Shatner seems most comfortable in shades of grey. He is a gifted artist.

  • It looks like two people aren't trying

  • she looks like shes in her early twentys but good video! love this song

  • dunno about the Shat but this song is pretty damn autobiographical for me on the daughter's side...

the book part seriously made me cry. beautiful song whoever wrote it.

  • (: ♥

  • GREAT video rendition of this song.

    I thank you.

  • This is one of the three songs on the album that he was not involved in writing. Even if he wrote it, don't mistake the song for the singer. This is not a song about his relationship with his own children.

  • I miss u Courtney!!

  • nice video!

  • This isn't about Bill's daughter he didn't even write the song. He's VERY close with all of his daughter's. LEMLI is initials of his daughter's and was the name of his record company back in the early 70's.

deekster2 your an idiot and don't know very much about him to say that!

  • Worst. Dad. Ever.

  • Wonderful song and NO it's not about his daugher he's very close with all them. What an idiot.

  • beautiful...Nick has truely found the magical words for this song and Ben and William adapted them for a brilliant song.

  • this is a great song

  • Great job on the video! I love this song so much. My favourite male artist, Ben Folds, meets my favourite female artist, Aimee Mann. Add Bill Shatner and melancholy into the mix and you've got a hell of a song.

  • Great video, it really captured the spirit of the song.

  • Such a powerful well written sad song. Good job with the video.

  • sad

  • this songs greats , hits close to home for me and my dad...

  • aimee mann rocks

  • Another gem by Ben Folds with Shatner's iconic voice in a touching story. Hearing this makes me want to never loose touch with my daughter, ever! That would be a father's nightmare.

  • FANTASTIC job on this video. One of my favorite songs from one of my all-time favorite albums.

  • fuck you, this man is a genius. everybody has made mistakes and wrong turns but he's freakin trying. you saying people should never be forgiven?

shatner is an icon, a legend, a fantastic man.

  • @GunnersBorn he IS a deadbeat, that's what the song's about. he's sincere, but look at what he says 'no need to talk about the bad stuff', 'i'd like to explain - but i can't'. he's a loser and he's messed it all up; he wants to make amends but he doesn't know how and it's too late. but he's still trying. 'do you still see your sister? bring her too'

  • The song was written by the guy who wrote High Fidelity. It's not autobiographical for Bill.

  • dead beat dad

  • Lemli is a name of Shatner's daughters combined -- LEslie, Melanie, and LIsabeth. So it's a way of him not specifying which daughter he's talking about.

  • I belive that Lemli is Star Trek Reference to Mr. Lemli. He was part of the crew.

it is also said that Lemli is named after William Shatners daughters.

  • The piano is absolutely beautiful

  • "Lemli" -- great joke if anyone gets it

  • I didnt get it. what is the joke? (maybe it's because of my english)

  • She is NOT in her early 40s...

  • I love the intro. It's creepy and wonderful.

  • Beautiful song. That entire album is amazing.

  • well done! : )

  • amazing song, and a great video to go along with it

  • This is a really good video for it. Good job!

  • This is a William Shatner song, and a video I did for class.

You should do some research prior to talking ignorantly

  • That comment made absolutely no sense...

  • hahahah research! :p

  • such a beautiful song

  • situations to be avoided

  • i swear to god i always thought this was a piss take. THIS IS SUCH A GOOD TRACK. it should be a number one or something. awesome.

  • Am I crazy or is that Tom Cruise playing the father?? No really, take a closer look at it. It sure as hell looks like Tom "I-flew-into-the-Danger-Zone-and-can-handle-the-Truth" Cruise to me.

  • I realy love the video.

It looks good the woman been that young.

The only thing that I did not like, was the girl smiling when they met at the end, but anyway that´s your interpretation, kind of different from my personal experiencie.

  • It is a great song and a pretty good video, but the actors are too young. I sure do wish you would do it over again, exactly like this except using actors who are at least close to the right age group.

  • Great video, well done.

  • it's good, but the father's lips never sync up with shatner. despite that, i really liked this video. has been is one of the top 10 greatest records of the last ten years.

  • Its actually a good song

  • Guys, this was brilliant. I did scroll down at all to post a comment and till it was over because I didn't want to miss a thing. Once again, a video with so few comments that it reminds me how unfair this place is.

    Keep it up. =D

  • What a fantastic home-made video. The camera work is good, the actors good looking. My only gripe is the lip sync is out on a few places...

    Apart from that, Well done!

  • Don't forget it was written by Nick Hornby.

  • Really?

    No shit!

  • And AIMEE MANN. Give credit where credit is due.

  • The Graphic at the beginning and the end of video says that

  • Man...what a great CD. Seriously.

  • Very good. And rather moving. Thanks for lovely clip!

  • That chick in the video Liz,, man is she the bomb diggity!

  • William Shatner & Ben Folds is a perfect combo of harmony & melody.
