  • @beas1knees No problem.

  • More people need to know of this K Middleton than the other one in the news!!! though i suppose you are the proper K Middleton once again. Your videos are excellent and the website is fantastic. Thanks so much!

  • This is making me cry as I listen to it. Very beautiful. A group of bluegrass folks played this at my friends funeral. Wonderful. T:)

  • Thanks T. I was quite pleased with this recording. I did get in trouble with Jay Ungar though for not getting permission from him first.

  • I could listen to this all day. Adore it. Thank you.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Hey Ken, I had to watch this again today... been practising but haven't really got it quite that smooth yet. I'm giving myself another week.

  • Are you going to post it?

  • @KenMiddletonUkulele I'll post it as soon as I'm satisfied with myself... hehehe... which may take forever cos you've set such a high standard.

  • What a pure sound. Great stuff, Ken.

  • Thanks very much. Have a great day.

  • Lovely work, Ken, on a favourite tune. Kudos

  • Thank you.

  • You're very fond of that TK-35CG. It sounds wonderful and so did this piece. Excellent work, my friend.

  • Yes, it is a better general purpose uke than anything I've tried (and I've tried pretty much everything).

    Thanks for watching, Shane.

  • Favourited! Now to try and learn it!!

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Wow, just fantastic! So soulfully good, Ken! Wonderful crisp playing here too. I'll certainly come back for more listens. And thanks so much for the sub. :) Janet

  • My pleasure, Janet.

  • fantastic Ken and thanks for the tab - generous as always. I love playing it. Looks simple but you're right - it's not !!

  • Thanks very much.

  • beautiful as always.

  • Thanks very much.

  • Ken,

Ashokan Farewell is one of my favorite Canadian songs, thanks so much, you have made my day. I hope you get back all that you have given.

    Cheers

    Heidi

  • Thanks Heidi. Have you downloaded the tab?

  • You bet and I can play it already too. I so wish I did not have such stage fright I would send it right back to you, it is beautiful and so are all the others. Your arrangements are just perfect for me. I hope to meet again someday, maybe and the Ukulele Ceilidh in Nova Scotia Canada this year?

    Cheers!

    Heidi

  • I would love to hear you play it. Maybe someday.

  • Ken,

Ashokan Farewell is one of my favorite Canadian songs, thanks so much, you have made my day. I hope you get back all that you have given.

    Cheers

    Heidi

  • I'd love to hear this with a fiddle, and bass for background

  • It was written for a fiddle. The original is well worth listening to.

  • Enchanting...you've done it again ken:)

  • Yes, I'm quite pleased with this. It's not everyone's cup of tea though.

  • Wonderfull simply captivating.. Lovely job ken :)

  • Thanks again.

  • I loved this, very much. Haunting and touching. Very nice, Ken. Thanks for sharing with us. -Lynn

  • I am very pleased with how this has turned out, Lynn. Thanks for listening.

  • Outstanding. I have adored this tune ever since it was used on the Civil war series. I can't believe you've done it!!!! THANK YOU so much. It seems I have a lot of practice to do.

  • Practice can be fun though.

  • this is fantastic Ken audio is brilliant

  • Thanks very much, K.

  • Lovely, Ken! This makes me want to try my own banjo arrangement of it. I love the nuance and timing and thought that you put into it.

  • Thanks for your comment, Marcos.

  • A particularly poignant rendition of a haunting tune. Thanks!

  • Thank you for watching.

  • Incredible.

  • Thanks.

  • Wow, that Ohana ukulele sounds beautiful. The flageolets sing like birds. I love it, Ken.

  • Thanks for watching, Sebi.

  • Ken never stop doing well :-)

  • I try not to stop.

  • Love this tune -- and you've done a great version of it. Thanks.

  • Thank you.

  • Ken, it sounded beautiful what a classic. Thanks for posting that on youtube and giving me the tabs. I can't wait to try it this weekend. Mahalo!

  • My pleasure.

  • Impeccable playing yet evocative Ken. Nice balance of the two.

  • Thanks for watching, Joseph.

  • Thank you very much.

  • I just got a Ohana TK-35G recently! Great value for this beautiful sounding instrument. Planning to order Worth strings because I feel like the Aquila stock is limiting range of the uke. Great playing, keep it up!

  • Congrats. Worth strings will change the sound for the better (IMHO). It will also make it the perfect instrument for playing this sort of Celtic sounding music. Excellent for everything else too.

  • one of my favorite melodies, and of course when done by the masterful middleton, all the better.

  • Hi Alex. Thanks.

  • Ken my friend, I listened to this while surfing elsewhere and although I didn't read your description first, I think you described it very well. Spot on. Lament is certainly what it sounded like. It sounds bitterly sorrowful but hauntingly beautiful all at the same time... it's so well expressed.

I suppose it's one of those tunes that makes a person want to cry. I'd say it would make an excellent funeral collection.

  • Wow, Dylan, you have a real way with words. "Bitterly sorrowful but hauntingly beautiful" is a lovely way to describe the tune.

  • @KenMiddletonUkulele Ken, it's not an empty compliment just to make a person feel good. I chose those words because it really made me want to cry. In some ways, it brings back memories of events of loss in my journey of life. You have a gift Ken. You really know how to put emotions in your music. If ever there's one person I'd like to meet in this lifetime, that would be to meet you.

  • Thank you Dylan. If we don't meet up in this life, we certainly will later on.

  • Neat camera angle, Ken it sounds great.

  • Yes, I am pleased with the video on this one. Recently, I have rather messed up in this area.

  • Very sweet playing Ken! And that Ohana sounds just like a dream - it really does sound just as good as you Kanilea's or whatever else you've got.

  • To be honest R, for this sort of music it sounds better than anything I have ever played (and I have played pretty much everything). It just gives the tone I want.

  • Very atmospheric, stunning version.

  • Atmospheric was what I was aiming at. Thank you.

  • Special.

  • Thanks Stew.

  • I finally got it, after swapping out Google Chrome as my browser, and going back to Safari! This arrangement is simply gorgeous. Chrome has it in for you on my machine!

  • Thanks Lynda. I'm glad it is sorted out. I use Safari on my netbook. I must say I prefer Firefox.

  • This was a beautiful rendition of one of my favorite songs!

  • Several people have told me that this is a song. Where are the words to be found, do you know?

  • @KenMiddletonUkulele Found lyrics here: 8notes(dot)com/scores/3159(dot)asp

Absolutely beautiful arrangement and playing! I love it

    Jon

  • Thank you very much, Jon. I will take a look.

  • beautiful crisp recording.

  • Thanks Russ.

  • I just can't download this!

  • What do you mean, Lynda?

  • @waterdog226 It is the first time that I have not been able to at any time in the day, do a You Tube download. I am on a satellite service and there seems to be a problem. I will do it in the middle of the night. Maybe someone has pirated my bandwidth. it is hard to do, I have it locked.

  • really lovely tune Ken- are you snowed in ?

  • Not snowed in exactly, but we have snow. However, I did the shopping today today and bought some coal, just in case. Are you?

  • A bit- only main roads are clear so I have had to park my car a 10 minute walk away so I can still get to work .

  • just fantastic ken! a beautiful haunting melody, used (very aptly) as the theme of the documentary about the american civil war.

  • Thank you for the comment.

  • I'm pleased you like the tune. I didn't know it at all until yesterday when I arranged this. I love the melody now though.

  • I know I work for the company Tony, but IMHO the Ohana TK-35 series are some of the best instruments on the market, and easily the best for the money.

  • i like that a lot ken, really wonderful. a bit beyond my abilities at the present though.

  • Thanks Jim. It is tricky, I must admit. I made a couple of mistakes myself.

  • HI! Bery Nise Music!

  • Thank you.

  • wonderful stuff Ken!

  • I thought you might like this one HH.

  • I have learned this song on piano,

was there not a version on the transatlantic sessions.

I think Jay ungar wrote this song, he was thinking of ali blian.

    regards

    CH

  • Jay Ungar certainly wrote it. I may be wrong, but I don't think it was a song. I didn't know it at all until yesterday when someone suggested doing it.

  • This song has a way of reaching inside me, which is probably why the other Ken (Ken Burns) used it in his Civil War documentary. Sure is pleasing to hear it this morning.

  • Thanks Don. The tune has a real old world feel to it. It is amazing that it is less than 30 yrs old.

  • very well played Ken ,

    Ken G

  • Thanks a lot, Ken.

  • Very nice! Wonderful sound!!!!!

  • Thank you very much.

  • Wonderful job Ken! An ex-girlfriend of mine played fiddle and this was one of her favorite songs to play - thanks for the memories :)

  • My pleasure.

  • It realy sings.

  • Thanks Hein.

  • nice

  • Thanks.
