  • Just curious, how come you didn't bring up that the Genesis version had one more level than the SNES version?

  • @WhiplashPuppet

I can answer that. The Gen game came out later then the Snes in area. Back in the day, my friends and I would just play the first release of the 1 game and move onto the next. Super Nintendo was more popular at rental stores and lots of Genesis games were hard to come by. So when Super Street Fighter 2 they didn't have the Gen one to rent only the Snes, so we would play that. Hope that helps

  • @kNIGHTWING01 Actually the Sega Genesis version came out first and was then ported to the SNES

While the SNES has better backgrounds I prefer the Genesis for Better music, sound effects, and the fact they took out a level for the SNES

  • @kNIGHTWING01 Just a lil gamer knowledge from an earthworm jim fan,Earthworm Jim is one of the few games that the mega drive/genesis version is considered the superior of the two original console version.

  • I had this on my gameboy... I still remember going and buying it at Costco. Brings back memories:)

  • I believe the in game idea is that the suit turned an earthworm into Earthworm Jim, so it isn't that the suit would turn say a human into an earthworm but would elevate that human into something as far beyond human as Jim is beyond a normal earthworm.

Of course, I thought in the original name it was for Queen Slug-For-A-Butt and was supposed to improve her appearance.

  • i hate it i hate it i hate it i hate it lol this is probably my first sensare lol.......lol

  • damn used to play this game all the time as a kid, although i thought earthworm jim 2 was better

  • Um, it's called "Snot a Problem."

  • I was blown away by this game when it first came out. My dad grabbed it at the rental store, handed it to me and said I had to play it to satisfy his curiosity. He then bought it for us after seeing my brother and I loved it.

  • Would love to see him on a next gen console as LONG as he does NOT end up like duke nuke em...

  • haha jim pushed klaus down at 4:28

  • @18makato It's worse in the sequel! He eats him! xD

  • I used to have Earthworm Jim for my PC. I remember that there was a cheat, "HATMAN," Where if you typed it in, you turned into this fat stick figure with a hat. Simply cosmetic changes.

  • PC/Sega CD version was the best. It had the Big Bruty level with that dinosaur thing that'd eat you even on that treehouse planet or whatever that was o.o

  • I remember when i was kid playing this on the genesis, The picture of earthworm jim before each levels starts used to scare me and i'd tuck my head in my shirt :)

  • i just got this for the snes in the box perfect condition epic XD

  • What the Snot and What the Heck? I think you mixed it up, it's "Snot a problem" ;)

  • This game was way above its time compared to others. The graphics are unbelievablle for a game this old. Kinda like dragon slayer graphics

  • @MegaHegira

I agree, the visual are similar to dragon slayer too, although i still think Dirk the daring, was a bit more ahead of his time then Jim. Love both hilarious heroes though.

  • you cannot forget this game

  • 10/10 Clown

  • Earthworm Jim face pisses me off LOL look at it haha

  • Earthworm Jim LOL if i saw Earthworm Jim in real life i wud fuk him up LOL haha

  • idiot, the level is'nt called what the snot but "snot a problem"

  • Comment removed

  • This game was also released on PC. Had it and loved it :)

  • I'd hate to know what he thinks of the BattleToads Bike level.

  • command cross? I thought it was a d-pad

  • i downloaded this game for the ps3!

it's a great remake ynd the god old memorys came back :-)

the best thing is they made a fun multiplayer modus.

  • Difficulty brings a game down three points for you? Geez!

  • Ooh, how bout an EWJ2 HD? Maybe they can get the guy who plays Homer Simpson to sign back on for Jim's voice?

  • down the tubes freakin ruins this game. tis a shame.

  • i USED to love this as a tot :P

  • Down the Tubes part 2 is a heck of a lot more endurable when you find the secret air refill nozzle about halfway through the 99 second bubble segment. On the xbox it refills to 99, but I can't recall what it refilled to in the older versions.

  • my favorite stage is the one with the ants, an your digging a path thru out the stage

  • Comment removed

  • Command cross?

  • @D3Lir10uS i guess the "command cross" is, what i call, the d-pad with the up, down, left, and right buttons.

  • I remember that cat from the HELL stage! I love this game xD

  • There's a game that looks very similar to this.

I played it ten plus years ago, ss bear with me.

Two characters, under the sea I think. One was pink (possibly a starfish) and it had really funky music and bits you had to tap the buttons to dance.

Pretty sure it was on the sega too.

    Any ideas?

  • @dissinitbig strafy?

  • aparently the suit also gave jim eyes and a mouth.... he is a worm

  • KWing. I am waiting and waiting. Please review EWJ2 :D!

  • i think part 2 is better

  • what's that song at the begining? sounds familiar

  • I love the Supernintendo graphics much better than Genesis but.. In Genesis, the Audio (sound effects) is much better so I ended up getting both versions!

  • 9.5 out of 10!

  • i lov the darkworm rag song in this game

  • I'm glad you mentioned the difficulty of down the tubes, I forgot just how hard some of the other levels can be though

  • dude the tv show was really bad, liked the game I thought it was hard, but not insanely hard. Easier than most NES games but still reasonably hard.

  • 7/10 is way to low bro.

  • @omfgARISTO Yeah It Should Be 10/10

  • @omfgARISTO I'd give it an 8 or 9

the only reason it's not a 10 for me is because of that stupid ass underwater level. Otherwise, it's a great game

  • @omfgARISTO I was just about to say the same thing , then your comment appears , cheers !!!!!

  • Correction: Not "What the Snot", but "Snot a Problem". :p

  • thumbs up, if you just watched this video, after the game came out on the xbox live arcade! haha

  • @theduke350 and the psn store

  • this game is pretty fun good to see they bought it back to the xbox 360 and ps3 :)

  • its coming to 360 arcade can't wait :D

  • I could never pass 'Down the Tubes' level. I finished the second game but yet to finish the first.

  • SNES version is epic

  • SNES version = epic :D

  • I'm like you, I hated that stuid underwater level, the glass ball thing is rediculously hard, not to mention the lack of direction while your in it, and the bungy jumping level is called snot a problem fyi, not what the snot.

  • Just because it's hard, doesn't make it bad, or should even effect it's score.

come one now, you can't tell me "it's just to hard, making it a bad aspect"

that's not right, I''m glad there are challenging games. I was born in 1990. And thank God for hard games.

  • @chriser23 Yeah I agree, most nowadays videogames suck because of that, they're extremely easy compared to this kind of games. Loved Earthworm Jim

  • Ok So the the best levels you hate? WTF

  • @dukeljk It is because he hates hard things he can't do, ironic how he still calls himself the "real game master."

  • @Mrguy891

I never said I hate all hard things. Ninja Gaiden is one of my favorite games and I beat it numerous times. Even Captain N had trouble with certain games. Now Ive can beat hundreds of games, does that mean i will be good at every single game? NO WAY! Earthworm Jim is one of those games Im not good at, thats just life. When I did this review, I had come to the point of destroying my copy of EJ because certain levels made me want kill somebody. Some games are just like that.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 I was kidding, most of my comments are not to be taken seriously. Though sometimes you complain about easy stuff like heat mans puzzle in mega man 2.

  • @Mrguy891

Yeah I did sometimes. When i did MM2,EJ and some others I had played them for decades. Now what I do if I have time is play through the game 2X, like the TMNT series and my newest retro review of Maximum carnage on May 11th. Although me doing retro games is only once a month, if that. Very busy these days.

  • earthworm jim is coming to dsiware for only 800 dsi points

  • i have it on game boy only one thing everytime i die i have to start all over hellppppp mmmmeeeee

  • sob sob :( I never got to experience much of this game because I got stuck on the second level! I think it was 'what the heck'.

  • Second level!??! u musta had crippled thumbs

  • it is on virtual console , but its the genisis version, but no worrys, it has beter graphics and more sounds then on snes, downside, no perfect see threw stuff and , personaly i like the snes versions music beter, go figure, maybe theyll put that one one the wii shop chanell to well good luck buying and finding it :3 also earthworm jim 3d wasnt that bad :3 but no worrys earthworm jim 4 is coming soon, saw on both wiki, the official site, and a billion fans saying they absolutly know its coming :3

  • I once commented to a guy who was LPing this game at the time (the Super NES version) that in What the Heck?, he was fighting Bad Mr. Frosty.

  • yes, they should. Its just a funny game with the action twist.

  • Awesome review, EWJ its one of the greatest games ever, and I believe that everyone who play this game, hates down the tubes and tube race =P

  • just bought an gensis with this game : ye i now this is on the wii, but i really like the gen control

  • Earthworm Jim is awesome, used to play it all the time. If you can, pick up Toejam and Earl, another amazing game!

  • the level 'what the heck' used to creep me out because of that wierd dancing figure in the background in combination with the music

  • i liked all of them , i dont understand what's so bad about the 3d one....

  • have you played it? Compared to other 3d platformers of its time (Super Mario 64 & Rare's Banjo Kazooie etc) it sucks

  • IT DOESNT SUCK! it has awesome music and its really funny the only thing that sucks is the camera,,,

  • 10/10. "down the tubes" isn't that hard. you just have to know where to go in the pod. also, you need the helicopter for the "use your head" section of "buttville". also the level with major mucus is called "snot a problem", not "what the snot". this sega cd version/pc version was the best.

  • I found this game wedged between crap in my house. Apparently we've had it for year, and I never noticed.

    Shame on me.

  • Stangey the graphics were much nicer on the megadrive/genesis version. Particularly the level 'For Petes Sake'. Very colourfull on megadrive/genesis...dark and bland on Snes.

  • I think that depends on the level. Though "For Pete's Sake" looked better on the Genesis, the boss area of "What the Heck?" and the "Andy Asteroids" stages looked better on the SNES (more colorful, backgrounds, etc.). "Down the Tubes" had a better water effect on the tubes in the Genesis version.

  • i thought it was called snot a problem

  • earthworm jim is on virtual console COOL :D

  • the helicopter head thing isn't pointless you need it in the level buttville

  • What the Heck was also my favorite stage. The reason for me was the beautiful music. It reminded me of some wacky christmas cartoon for some reason.

  • Earthworm Jim kinda reminds me of Booger Man (A Genesis game)

  • sega or snes version some one tell me witch to get

  • sega because of the extra level intestinal distress

  • snes

  • Well, the SNES version had much better sound, and therefore the music was awesome.

  • the music sounded lame on snes.

the sound card on genesis fits the music better.

  • Whaaaat?!

  • What was exactly wrong with the game music in the snes compared to the genesis?

  • he looks like buu

  • Actually the level is called "snot a problem".

  • Actually the helicopter head is ESSENSIAL for the level Buttville. But if you think it serves no purpose I just fail to see how you can get through Buttville without it.

  • This is another game I watched my cousin beat. This game is.....weird, very weird. The levels are incredibly bizarre. This game was more appealing to me as a kid, now.......

  • U hav a wife??

    u sound like ur 16!!

  • hes 27

  • i hav this game and i never passed level one :(

  • i dont care!

  • issues..

  • 16?

now that would be a really deep voiced 16 year old.

  • @cgsmitherine3 :-lol yea...i was shocked when he said my wife requested this video..he doesnt sound dat old..!!!

  • @vaishal92

Got married when I was 23. Im 27 now.

  • would you review golden axe plez

  • this is one of my faverete game

  • i love that game! well said. im so glad they released it on Virtual Console.

  • awesome review you just forgot to say that the game was ported to the sega mega cd with improved music, graphic and 2 new levels also the boss battle was moved to that new level

  • can wait for your earthworm jim 2 review!

    please make it soon

  • i have this game

  • i love earthworm jim

    i'll give it a 10!!!

  • but you know wat i notice, that earthworm jim is not that famous.

like some of my friends don't know about him, i'll tell them "how can you not know about earthworm jim!!!" lol

  • lol! i would say, r u out of ur minds? well, i think its also based on wut generation someone is from as well. i always loved the Earthworm Jim games, i just didnt get much opportunity to do so in my kid years. i did enjoy the gameboy color game a lot, but lost the game, =[

i was still a young kid when that game came out and well, for some reason, i lost track of a lot of things back then. probly cuz i didnt keep them organized like i do now.

  • dude i swear im the only person beside my brother that knows about earthworm jim lol, and i started playing earthworm jim becuz of my brother

  • thats odd. i know about him and so does a good friend of mine as well. wait? how old are those ppl ur referring too? were they like not alive in the 90's? jk!

  • I have one question. Have you ever found a game that you gave a score less than 7/10?

  • you voice changed

  • I actually kinda liked Down The Tubes. It just felt unique from beginning to end.

  • Down The Tubes isn't so bad when you compare it to Tube Race.

  • Jim says groovy Ash says groovy cocincidence i think not

  • I seem to remember that EJ would say a curse word everytime he took damage. Am I incorrect about that? That was the most annoying thing about it in my opinion.

  • Ok Kwing. That level isn't called "What the snot", it's called SNOT A PROBLEM. What the Heck is a great level. Hate FOR PETE'S SAKE. Hate DOWN THE TUBES. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

  • i love jim but this ones too hard

    i like 2 more

  • i thought you were 13 but you said wife

  • useless button at hq

  • i own 1 and 2 for snes. jim is one of my favo. video game chara. of all time. GROOVY

  • This game is incredibly unique. There's really nothing else like it. Like you said, it's also incredibly difficult. I never beat the "Down the Tubes" level, although I did get past it with the Shiny code.

  • for pete's sake, you could've at least mentioned the MD/CD/PC versions!

  • 5:58 robot chicken.

  • I replayed this game not long ago and its actual not that hard. I beat it and hardly died. Maybe its because I played it so much as a kid. I actual liked Down the Tubes and For Pete's Sake but kinda disliked the racing stages.

  • wait didnt he say captain falcon was the only nintendo super hero?

  • Hundredandfour,

Super Mario and Wario are Nintendo superheroes too.

  • hmm yeah i guess they kinda are too....but he said himself that captain falcon was the only one

  • i just downloaded this today, i havent played earthworm jim for about 10 years and oh man its fun getting to play it again, and i still find it fucking hard!!!!! i cant get enough of it though

  • help i die in the 2ned lv makes me start from lv 1 again ugh!!! Help how to get more lifes or sumin

  • This is, by far, the most briliantly designed character ever.

Loved this game. As a kid I went nuts on this one.

  • I HATE down the tubes lol. Reminds me of the water level in TMNT on the NES.

  • Awesome insight dude.

  • 5:50 the cat is in TWO PLACES AT ONCE!!!!!!!!!

  • wow... thats a while ago that i saw this

  • Great review bud! Earthworm Jim, Mario Bros. 3, Castlevania and Zombies Ate My Neighbors are my all-time favorite games!

  • the game is right now on the US wii virtual console the genisis version to be prcise

  • it would be great if nintendo gave us both the snes version too.

  • The Genesis version is superior, it has another level.

  • NO, It's just as good, if not better.

  • genesis inferior to the SNES? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • i RemembeR playing this on the n64 i couldny RemembeR what it was Rly i think it was paRt 2

  • think they're using the gen versio for vc becuase it had 1 level that wasnt isnt the snes version, If that level had been in the snes version, They probably wouldve used that version.

Although persoanlly I like the megadrive/gen sound chip, my opinion, BUtthe game rockS!

    nice review 5/5!

  • recently picked up ej2 (again) for the snes..man i miss the old days..

  • The Submarine part of Down the Tubes takes an unbeleivable amount of patients to get past. I managed to go at an undaring amount of speed to get past there and I finished the part under 20 seconds and the Sub was insanely cracked, like it had one more bump to brake it.

  • I finished the part WITH under 20 seconds left

  • Down the Tubes - Sub section is classic.

I had it down there I could breeze through it without hardly taking damage.

  • EARTHWORM JIM IS NOW ON THE VC!!!!

  • yea but i dont like how nintendo always chooses to release genesis ports of a game. i dont like the genesis sound chip as much as the snes.

  • I know :( just like they did with wario's woods for the nes and Double Dragon when they could of released the snes versions I think the vc needs more snes and N64 games.

  • You forgot that at the end of the game, the helicopter IS important, since you're going through a field of pins.

  • I got this for xmas can't remember what year though,£45 at the time. Thanks mum

  • for petes sake stage -best music in a game ever, period!

  • There was a sega cd earthworm jim game. Which was the same except for an extra level and some other things.

  • lol earthworm jim's logo reminds me of Invader ZIM's

  • come on only a 7 otherwise good

  • ddddd

  • yea earthworm jim back in 1994 won the best game of the year

  • they should put earthworm jim in the next super samsh bros. game

  • amazing game
