1. It's Jordan.

2. Lakers fans cry about Ray's Defense because Ray ALWAYS played against Kobe when he was on the Sonics, so years of experience and defense like that builds up.

3. This was Ray's early years, as great as a defender he was, its still nothing compared to the disciplined defense he has now.

He and other Kobe homers love to pollute the web stating that MJ wouldn't fare well against modern day more athletic defenders. They used to state that Ray is a good defender (since he's defended Kobe good at 'times'... not always however). With this vid I wanted to kill many birds with one stone.

@andgar923 B. Athleticism is overrated on defense. As you've stated, defense is about discipline which can take a few years to develop. In my personal experiences, the more athletic a defender was, the more I knew I'd play better against them. And the older and less athletic he was, the more I knew I'd be in for a tougher time, it didn't matter how tall or fast they were, a person 3 inches shorter was always harder for me to score on.

Ray went on to become a 'solid' defender (at best).

ray allen is definitely not the best pure shooter. just because he has the 3pt record doesnt mean he is the best. he is a great shooter, but the definition of pure shooter is so vague that it does seems like a fan based fantasy. allen has never been that pure anyway, and there is no statistic of how ' pure' he is as a jump shooter.

jordan form, timing, release and elevation are always in the top 3 of jump shooter ( one might complain about his arc, but he compensate with his elevation) he also got extra double/triple clutches adjustment in the air that is totally absent in any other jump shooter. that to me is a plus.

and like you mentioned mullin, bird, and then some others ( even though none of them are pure in my opinion) mullin and bird absolutely relied more on jump shooting, possibly more so than ray allen.

I must admit that I think those 2 retired years took a slight step or two from Jordan, but it is amazing that he was able to move like that for so long, especially

There's a difference between speed and quickness. Speed is running from point A to point B where as quickness is more like a burst or acceleration, if that makes any sense.

What LeBron has is more running speed, but not the same "quickness" in tight spaces per se.

At their current ages, LeBron could probably out run Kobe in a race, but doesn't have more "quickness" in a limited space and probably wouldn't outrun a 23 year old Kobe.

I think Jordan however, at the same age could run faster [50 meters] and longer [400 meters] than both.

There's no question Bron could outrun Kobe NOW. Not sure if Kobe could beat Bron in Kobe's physical prime tho. Bron is more powerful and has a longer stride. Kobe is "quick" so while Kobe might beat him in the short trial, Bron's power and stride would excel in the long run. Mj was faster than both, and like you mentioned, could win either race.

I'm not sure if Mj was quicker than Kobe at the ages suggested. They might be even, its hard to tell. Also, the NO handchecking rules and no contact make him seem quicker for many reasons.

I agree that because one jumps higher it don't mean better dunks. But, it usually helps, specially when you have big hands and can palm the ball with ease. You show me dunks that MJ "can't" do, not that he "didn't" do. And I'll show you dunks Kobe could NEVER do.
