after getting rape-eye'd by teddy ruxpin, and my knuckles sheared clean off by the snoopy sno-cone maker, i like to relax and listen to two shortened songs by any number of twelve artists.
I've been collecting the tapes for years, and FINALLY scored a working player this week on eBay! I was a bit disappointed that most of the songs are shortened versions. In 1988 I was a high school senior and a DJ, with thousands of LPs and hundreds of CDs, so I didn't have much interest in Pocket Rockers.
OMG! The memories...... I loved these things. We used to hook them to our bikes and ride through the neighborhood. Much like the teenagers do now with their subwoofers in their cars. Now where the hell did I put mine... >.>
HOLY shit....I forgot ALL about these thing! My childhood memories just came flooding back...remember Fruit Bars? So ugly that you'll scream! Those things were awesome.
I had a pocket rocker from 1989 until 1994, wish I didn't get rid of it. I had Ritchie Valens "La Bomba" and "Tequila" I got it for my 9th Birthday. Pocket Rockers were a miniture version of the 8-Track as 7" LPs are to 12" LPs. Micro 4 Track Cartridge would be a more technical term for it. I always dreamed to make a device that would record on them. Now if they made these right before the invention of the compact cassette they would have made more money and it would have replaced the 8 track
@willdav713 I dont think they would have been very successful if they were introduced before the invention of the cassette, they were technically unpractical, ran short, and didnt have much fidelity. They were more of a cool gimmick. I believe these originate from a line of some sort of plushie toy that talked and had the phrases recorded on one of these mini tapes.
Fisher Price please bring these back. I loved 80s toys. and JPAnnunziato I'm 29 and I am going to start collecting these if I can find one. I may get a couple for spare parts.
When I was kid I wanted one of those but my parents would never by me one...Toys today are horrible. I miss the 80's! :( They destroyed my little pony, strawberry Shortcake, care bears, barbie, and what's next :(
I'm 31 now but still collect the pocket rockers on e-bay. Toys for todays youth are so dumbed dumb and require virtually no imagination! WTG Fisher Price!
This commercial has effectively ruined 'Down On The Corner' for me for the rest of my life.

The new iPod Nanos are actually smaller than the tapes for these things. Science has gone mad.
