Rule number one of ocean survival, stay with the group. No one is superman. 10 miles in high swells up wind? What about the current? Even in a canoe it would be hell. Anyone here ever paddled more than 2 miles without food or water? And the second you stop paddling, you backslide. Sisyphus had it easier.

mate paddling for 2 miles without water or food is pretty easy. People swim 1500 meters for racing. Thats about half way there. yes its 10 miles and not 2. BUt its eddie man. He probably has all days surfs accumulating to 10 miles of paddling

everyone should read the book, the guy here touches on how clyde won the comp a few years later, see what it says in the book how he did it, its unreal :) ashame someone of this calibur had to die in these circumstances, he not just represented his native hawaii or the surfing community, he also represented how mankind could all benefit if they were even a little like he was :) god bless such a person and may he be still looking down looking out for us all :)
