  • how did you go with firewire from the soundcard to the Dell laptop ? Does your laptop have a firewire port ? Or you are using a converter, and if so which one.. Thanks..

  • @ErianAsllaniTV @ErianAsllaniTV I don't have that laptop working anymore but it was a firewire to pci card. I'm not sure what the brand name was

  • great stuff man. question, i have a vci-100 n im looking for a soundcard to buy, any suggestions (usb powered preferably) affordable as well. thanks

  • @mg2823 Thanks, Man! I would check out the audio 4 by Native Instruments, or the audio 8 if you need more channels and to connect a midi cable. The also came out with a newer line the audio 6 and 10. To me those are the best if you are not using serato.

  • this is the borg cloud of virtual studio gear... congrats.

  • @obliviousaa Haha, thanks, man. My resistance to building this setup was futile.

  • nice setup

  • hey man cool set up! you seem to know your stuff. i was wondering could you help me? ive got a: pioneer djm 600 (4 channel mixer) traktor scratch pro xone 1d x2 native instruments kontrol x1s speakers + amp ableton live and 2 laptops i was wondering hw do i set up ableton with traktor. i already have them synced but am not sure about getting the audio to come through, do i need another sound card or what? cheers.
  • @Mellon7787 Well you could have both programs on one computer and use the traktor soundcard for both. I'm assuming you have the audio dj 8. If you want to run them on separate computers you can try to use the internal sound card on the laptop running ableton but if you arent getting good sound quality or a fast enough response, you'll need a sound card for that one two.

  • @djDivineJustice cool than you very much for your help.

but i want to use my four channels on my djm for traktor, is it possible to use ableton also somehow. i also have the serato sl1 soundcard but i dont use it, would this be helpful in any way?

I probably need a mixer with more inputs to have four channels of traktor & some ableton channels too right?

is there anything cheaper than another mixer i could purchase to solve my problem?

thank you very much for your help dude!!!

  • @Mellon7787 You could use the sl-1 as a soundcard for ableton, either on the same laptop or a different one, and run that into the sub mic input on the back of the djm, but you would have to switch between the forth deck of traktor and ableton using the line input switch on the top of the mixer because they would be sharing the 4th channel. You would need an rca to 1/4 inch wire or an rca to 1/8 inch with a 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch adapter.

  • @Mellon7787 OR you could run a 1/4 inch to xlr cable to the mic input on the top. That way you could have all 5 inputs playing at the same time. I would make use of that sl-1 box unless you NEED it for something else. Hope that helps!!

  • @djDivineJustice your the fucking man, thank you so much. i'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. cheers.......

  • @Mellon7787 If you are only mixing with two decks on traktor, I would run ableton on that computer as well and use the other two channels for ableton. So you would have channel one and two on the 600 with traktor and three and four with ableton. depending on how you wanna do it, you can have traktor midi slaved to ableton or vice versa.

  • @vijayweemhoff - Thanks man. Sadly All of that gear is gone by now.

  • damn this is SICK

  • one question, why the hell are you using two computers? u can do the same thing with one computer and a moniter

  • @JasonVladimir & infectedSt0rm - thanks guys! Glad to see this vid is still helping folks out.

  • Thanx for the vid.

  • You are Cramming information into this video.

    thank you.

  • i could do the same setup with 1/4 of the gear used here.....learn your software man

  • @mrnomore1 - the point was to incorporate all the pieces I had to hopefully inspire other to look at their setup in a different way and by the other comments, more constructive, intelligent, and interesting than yours, I feel I accomplished that.

2 - what exactly ( and we all know you will fail at answering this properly..) do I need to learn, in your humble opinion?

    Thanks for the comment :)

  • is there a way to link the 2 laptops via wifi? like send the MIDI information through it? or is send it through ethernet better?

  • @frogsoblivious31337 I would say the best way if you can is to use a midi cable between audio interfaces. I know you can send midi through wifi like from a ipod/pad to a computer but you have both on the same wifi network. Send midi beteen two laptops means you have to allow for the extra cpu it's gonna eat up for both to be connected wirelessly. Can you just hardwire the two together or is that not an option?

  • this seems a little much....just saying....

  • @TheDjTYX Very true. You could rock a show with just a mouse like girltalk. This is more of a studio setup to be able to utilize the two programs together.

  • @djDivineJustice dude wasn't saying that I'm all about hardware not computers it's just it seems really complicated and a lot of things could go wrong with it live, for a studio set-up sure whatever works, but I would never use something like this live I'd be way to afraid of one little thing going to shit and everything go right after it.

  • @TheDjTYX Kool. Thanks..

  • Cool idea @ 8:20

How do you record a sample into ableton and then play it back as a loop live? Are you just playing a straigt loop in ableton and recording into it? Do you know of any way you can record something live then loop it over the track while its playing even when the track itself is not looping. Say I wanted to repeat the same automation (from midi) over a preset pattern, on the fly, or would you have to copy and paste?

  • @Tasbo1982 with ableton as soon as you press play on at rack that's recording, it stops recording and starts playing live, if I understand your question. in this vid i already had a breakbeat playing on one track in ableton and recorded me playing the cues points of the beastie boys song playing through traktor on the other computer.

  • @djDivineJustice Yeah that's it. That's what i want to do. How do you do that, but over a pre arranged track i.e. not over a track that is already looping, but over an actual song. Is there any way? Cheers.

  • @Tasbo1982 You can have a full song or entire dj mix already in one of the clips and the record live into another one is session view or you can have the clip/ loop/ song/ mix on a track in arrangement view and record live onto another track. In arrangement view you can automate volume/ effects/ midi changes. Session view is more for djing and just initially throwing things together to see what mixes well.

  • @djDivineJustice Thanks man.

  • @Tasbo1982 No problem. lemme know when you post some stuff i can hear!

  • @Tasbo1982"Do you know of any way you can record something live then loop it over the track while its playing even when the track itself is not looping."

Not sure i understand that one. There is an audio effect in Live 8 called Looper that's pretty sick, you should check out.

  • @djDivineJustice Yeah sorry that was a bit cryptic! What i want to do is record loops over a pre arranged track. So I have my track and I think, "this 1 bar melody would be good for 8 bars" I play the 1 bar melody, but it only plays once. is there a way of recording it and setting it to loop? - I'll try looper, I guess that does what I want. By the way, you have a very cool set up.

  • Dude what do you think of this set?

Macbook Pro 13 (Got it) + Traktor Scratch Pro

    M-audio Xponent (Want it)

    Mashine (Want it)

My goal is to play live at house parties with a bit of my own (pre-made) stuff looping while I run sets.

  • @phizooky That sounds cool. I can't say about the xponent. I never really dug torq but it may be a great controller for traktor. also the kontrol X1 is a great controller for traktor. i made a few videos with it. And Maschine is very sick!

  • omg i got the same little drums like you have next to your sound cart at 3.18 !!!!

  • @SnakeNickkkk HAHA! those were my dad's. He played sitar on a miles davis track back in the seventies.

  • i got something similar to this, i have 2 deck turntables, vci - 100, maschine, running traktor scratch, machine software and ableton live. it all runs to a Yamaha mixer.all programs are midi sync.. plus the machine controller is used for effects from traktor. my VCI-100 is super tweaked out... will be adding the Korg mini XL for a vocoder. and on top of all that i run real time video visualizations. still learning it full potential lol

  • A laptop (Gateway NV78), ableton live 8.1.1 and traktor pro 1.2. Please help I have a long time trying to sync ableton with traktor. : (

  • @MrBizarro9000 Are you trying to sync on one or two computers?

  • This makes me wanna hear a set. Nice sounds

  • @phizooky Thanks, Man Check this out!

    youtube.com/watch?v=Aj0d8lw0uQs

  • man thats confusing , but it looks sweet ;)

  • most complicated ipod setup ive ever seen :D

  • Hi I have a question what do you need to sync ableton with traktor ???

  • @MrBizarro9000 are you running a mac or pc?

  • loving your set up man! awesome!

  • @crazyflip69 Thanks , man

  • What an absolute nightmare! Hopefully all the tech helps you deliver a great result?

  • dat is one confusing set up

  • wow im so lost....

  • hay man whats up?

i wonder what leptop and sound card you use?

  • dell laptop + vestax vci 100 = a winner combination!

  • Great combination of kit there - very impressed with the foot switch idea for hands free! I write with Ableton but always Djed with Vinyl and in the last few years cdjs... but I need to leap to traktor as well really... great combo, thanks for giving me some ideas! I've been torn between serato and traktor, but I'm really starting to feel that tracktor has the upper hand now..!

  • That is one freaking confusing setup $@;@? i do have a question ,1st i'll fill u in on my set up . Imac, samson rubicon monitors ,korg zero 4mixer , 2 vestax pda1's turntables , a novation remote sl compact and serato sl to mix my tunes . also use the zero 4 to tweak ableton 8 cz thats what its made 4.. thinking of getting a korg padkontrol to do some finger drumming and hitin cues and clips ... The question is do i need an interface for a padkontrol or is it straight usb ? peace ! go beasties

  • the padkontrol can go usb or through midi when you hook up a power cord to the pk. I found going through the midi cable was a little more responsive.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • thanks dude yet again hahah u ve probably been my most valuable resource in this music production/djing quest of mine

there a place where i could download ur mixes and stuff?

  • Yet again haha i need ur help but about the mpk im trying to read the manual but it doesnt make sense, how do you change the pressure of the pads on the mpk? to make them more sensitive

  • check page 6 too:

PAD THRESHOLD is the minimum force required to activate the pads.

If you experience ghost triggering due to stage vibrations, you may

wish to set this threshold higher. On the other hand, if you find it

difficult to cause the pads to output sounds when playing them lightly,

you may wish to set this value to a lower number.

  • 1. While in Global Mode, use [>] button to scroll to PdThresh (page

    6).

    2. Turn [VALUE] dial to select Transposition in semi-tones.

    3. Press [ENTER] to set Transposition.

wish to set this threshold higher. On the other hand, if you find it

difficult to cause the pads to output sounds when playing them lightly,

you may wish to set this value to a lower number.

  • if i have its on audio and just say i had two turntables on everything is functional i think it is traktor thats messes with the mixer setting i never had the probably before but lately i been busy here at lehigh that i cant mess with it ill i wil during the break for sure. thanks though

  • Hope you figure it out!

  • small ass world but so far so good i guess the only thing im not liking is idk what i did to the preferences on Traktor but as soon as i put in the firewire it changes the settings on the Korg

and disables the effects the loopers idk why and like even if i have it on the audio channel onces hooked up to traktor goes half midi and audio.

P.S good video reason i ran into is because i bought the akai mpk49 haha today so just looking around

  • yea that mpk is awesome. weird about your preferences changing... might be the soundcard part of it resets the whole layout.

Does it work if you set the effects up after connecting the zero 4?

  • Dj DivineJustice did you sell the korg zero not that long ago on craiglist?

  • yea man. how you like it?

  • djing with a footpedeal... amazing!

  • is all of this necessary?

  • How did you rewire Traktor into ableton? Can you please tell me step by step Ive really confused myself :P. Thanks.

  • That would depend on your setup. What are you using as a soundcard? What kind of dj mixer do you have and how are you sending that sound to you speakers? Are you using one computer or two?

    Thanks for the question!

  • I have a full mixing setup (turntables, mixer etc), but what I want to do is use this controller with traktor scratch pro and with the Audio 8 DJ external soundcard (for headphone cueing) only. I would also like to rewire traktor into ableton so I could apply extra samples and effects.

  • Im just starting out and this looks so complicated! Its almost overwhelming! :)

Just wondering what works best with the VCI 100:

    Traktor pro or Ableton live?

Im into re-edits and recording mixes like recording songs. Id like to be able to go through the mix and tweak certain areas etc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Ableton sounds like a better software for making remixes and in depth editing. You can also set it up for dj use but you need to warp your songs first so they launch in time with each other.Traktor is mainly a dj software that you can use as a four track recorder with effects.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • Hey DJ Divine....whats that tune you using on the PAD?.....I would like to get those tunes...Thx

  • It's the beginning of flute loop by the beastie boys. bad ass track!!

  • Ah!!....cool...thx...had that at the tip of my tongue and couldnt remember where ive heard that from!

  • how much does dat mixer cost? and do u kno the cheapest one?

  • it was 13 new now you can get for 7 hundred. they have a zero 8 too. Cheapest zero 4?

  • ok yea that is just a 2 in/ 2 out soundcard. the "2" being the L and R of one channel, basically. so you cannot route a separate channel the the headphones. the headphone out is just to monitor what the 2in/ 2out channels are doing.

I would say the vci-300 would be good cause it has a soundcard built in so you can plug your headphones in to the 300 as well as your speakers. but that is running itch.

  • I am using a behringer uca 202. I am thinking to buy a Numark dj i/o because of the latency and quality.

  • there are so many soundcards, it really depend on how much you can spend and what type of outs you need for what kind of speakers/monitors.

the audio 4/8 that come with tracktor duo or pro look good.

I loved the korg zero4 but i sold it to get a ttm 57 because I just prefer serato at this point.

  • hey dj divine,

Maybe you can help me: I have a vci-100 using traktor pro, but i have a problem with my audio setup. When i want to set my audio device in traktor in submenu output routing (intern) i can only set 0 out to 1, 1out to 2 something like that. My problem is now, that i cannot select a output for monito (headphone cueing). Do you know what i have to do to solve it. Thanks in advance.

  • what are you using as a soundcard?

  • hi i have just bought the stanton str8 100 tt

and i am not sure what mp3 line in is for??

Can you play song from ur mp3 player on the turntable? and mix it?

    Please help me out

  • you can plug the mp3 into the turntables line in and have it go through to the mixer.

there is a switch when you take the slip mat off, under the platter.

  • so if i plug my mp3 to Channel 1 Turntable and when i move the crossfade to channel 2 will the sound from mp3 be quite or still the same..

  • it will be quiet. and the switch is on the back by the rca inputs

  • thanks for the help

I have one Stantons Str8 100 and Numark PPD01 mixer at the moment so untill i get my other turntable i will mix with my mp3 files..

    again thanks

  • can u connect Stanton STR8-100 directly to computer and use it on softwares like Serato or virtual DJ??

    and mix mp3

  • well the str8 100 is going to the computer through the zero4.

for serato I would need the usb interface or have the ttm 57

  • very powerful setup mate!

    thanks for sharing :)

how ya like the zero 4? thinkin about gettin one

  • Hey thanks, man. yea zero 4 is great. Can't say enough about it. Zero 8 looks sick too but might be overkill depending on your setup.

what would you be using it for?

  • cough zero 4 so jealous cough.

  • I love that you have massive amounts of equipment set up! It's like you're a mad scientist in the "Sound Lab"! (that's what we call it at the radio station I work at) Keep on jammin' man, I love what you're doing.

  • do you dj fulltime?

  • Well i only have two nights a week so far but I should be up to four or five during the summer.

  • good keep up the good work bro

  • thanks a lot. I should have some new vids soon, too.

  • nice setup,

  • You wouldn't want to post your tks/tsi files would you? I run Traktor 3.4 now and would love a tks but if all you have is a tsi; I'll go out and get pro. Very nice setup and thanks for sharing.

  • sure. how do I post/ send them. I have both.

  • sick and thanks for sharing - I'd love to hear a mix

  • I love you, will you marry me?

  • sorry, taken..

  • Hey man, I just bought a Zero 4. Is it possible to run the Korg Zero 4 directly to the CPU to control "traktor", bypassing the interface altogether?

  • IF I understand you correctly, yes.I try to use a few different setups, like when I just dj I will plug my turntable directly into the zero4 and have traktor running right into it through firewire. That a good setup for running tracktor scratch.Since for this I was using both programs, it maked more sense to use the zero4 as a soundcard for the laptop running ableton.

  • But dude, when I get my macbook I run both programs on the same computer and both programs recognize the zero4 as a soundcard and as a midi controller!!! SICK!!!!

  • Sick setup man. I'm jealous

  • THats sickk .... + 150 from me :)

  • dude, how do you only have 436 views?!?! this is an awesome setup!

  • that's a monster digi-setup!

  • Sweet setup, man.

  • you have a really nice set up how long have you been building your studio?
