How can you compare them? They both have almost exactly the same voices. Idina's is just more advanced cause she's older. Their styles are practically the same and they can all hit the same notes. There's no comparing, they're just both absolutely incredible.
Definitely Lea 1: Idina 0... Idina thinks she's above the song and when artists fail to stick true to the vision of the composer compromise happens. I mean, why cheese-up this song to Barbara? Oy vey, Maria! or should it be: Oy Vey, Idina??

I like Idina, but I love Lea. I think she has better control of her voice. Idina, occassionally, is all over the place, but Lea gives steadily good performances. I don't mean here, because obviously Lea isn't actually singing live (though she tore this up for sure).

idina menzel is actually set to play opposite Will's character by playing the "coach" of Vocal Adrenaline, she will provide another "enemy" for Will, also Johnathan Groff is set to play the lead boy in Vocal Adrenaline and a potential love interest for Lea Michele!!!
It's hard to compare the sound of the two versions because of the difference in how they were recorded. I personally enjoy both performances immensely, and thanks for intercutting between the two, it's fun! But I have to say that despite the fact that Lea's voice is possibly in better balance with the instrumentals, or even just that Idina sounds softer (leading us to think: less powerful), to me, Idina still sounds more professional, and Lea sounds like a really talented young performer.
To me, Idina sounds like a more confident professional broadway singer, while Lea is just the better singer period. Idina has that loud booming voice that's needed so that everyone hears her sing.

She had a wierd technique and she tore her vocal chords on stage and I'm pretty sure she was performing Defying Gravity... But her voice is no where near as dominant as it was when she was in Wicked or Rent or anything else.
Idina is performing live. This is not an easy song to sing live and all in one take. And even more nerve wracking to sing it in front of Barbra. My vote goes to Idina. She did great and it's all raw singing. No auto-tuning whatsoever and her intonation is still great even with all the stage blocking she had to pay attention to. More interesting phrasing too.
But Idina isn't that great. It is her job to perform live and in one take so it shouldn't be an issue. I really like them both, but Lea Michele is far superior. And compare Lea's voice in this to live, it's pretty much the same. But there definately more interesting phrasing in Idina's.

I've already seen live singing videos of lea and I wasn't particularly impressed. She's just loud. But her breathing is not very good. So I'm not too optimistic that she'll do great with this song if she performs it live. But yeah, I'll wait for an actual live performance of this song from her before I'd say she was better than Idina.

I saw Lea's live "on My Own" rendition and a live performance of a song from Spring Awakening. Also another song I forgot the title where she looked like she was singing in a club. I dunno, I just wasn't impressed with Lea. Idina has flaws especially in her high notes, but she has other qualities in her singing that I like. Might be due to the fact that Idina has more experience, but then again, Lea is younger with the fresher voice so I weighing those considerations, I still go with Idina.

How can you compare them? They both have almost exactly the same voices. Idina's is just more advanced cause she's older. Their styles are practically the same and they can all hit the same notes. There's no comparing, they're just both absolutely incredible.

Definitely Lea 1: Idina 0... Idina thinks she's above the song and when artists fail to stick true to the vision of the composer compromise happens. I mean, why cheese-up this song to Barbara? Oy vey, Maria! or should it be: Oy Vey, Idina??
Glee is such a great show and hopefully it brings young people back to Broadway.

You really can't compare a live performance versus a studio recording...that said Lea Michele clearly did an amazing job on this song!

I like Idina, but I love Lea. I think she has better control of her voice. Idina, occassionally, is all over the place, but Lea gives steadily good performances. I don't mean here, because obviously Lea isn't actually singing live (though she tore this up for sure).
I like both, but I think Idina is kind of overrated. *awaits thrown tomatoes*

It's hard to compare the sound of the two versions because of the difference in how they were recorded. I personally enjoy both performances immensely, and thanks for intercutting between the two, it's fun! But I have to say that despite the fact that Lea's voice is possibly in better balance with the instrumentals, or even just that Idina sounds softer (leading us to think: less powerful), to me, Idina still sounds more professional, and Lea sounds like a really talented young performer.

To me, Idina sounds like a more confident professional broadway singer, while Lea is just the better singer period. Idina has that loud booming voice that's needed so that everyone hears her sing.

They really could pass for sisters, or on a long stretch mother and daughter...I understand Idina will be playing the competing groups director. I hope they leave the door open for her being Rachel's biological mother. Even if it's not put out there initially, it could make for a great storyline for next season.
Her mom wanting her to transfer and join her glee club.
They are both amazingly talented women.

I'm not a HUGE fan of Idina, but I still give her credit, and I can't believe how similar they look! I can't wait to see them perform on Glee in the spring! Of course, that's if the rumors are true... :P

And You people have to remember, no matter how much you liked Idina in that other stuff, she ripped her vocal chords, so saying she doesn't sound GREAT isn't an insult, hell it's amazing she can get up and do that stuff and sound like she does and I give her props for that.

She had a wierd technique and she tore her vocal chords on stage and I'm pretty sure she was performing Defying Gravity... But her voice is no where near as dominant as it was when she was in Wicked or Rent or anything else.

Idina is performing live. This is not an easy song to sing live and all in one take. And even more nerve wracking to sing it in front of Barbra. My vote goes to Idina. She did great and it's all raw singing. No auto-tuning whatsoever and her intonation is still great even with all the stage blocking she had to pay attention to. More interesting phrasing too.

But Idina isn't that great. It is her job to perform live and in one take so it shouldn't be an issue. I really like them both, but Lea Michele is far superior. And compare Lea's voice in this to live, it's pretty much the same. But there definately more interesting phrasing in Idina's.

I don't think so, I just meant anything she sings, her voice sounds like that and I'm sure there can't but much enhancement at all, if any. But I'm sure it's only a matter of time before she performs it live.

I've already seen live singing videos of lea and I wasn't particularly impressed. She's just loud. But her breathing is not very good. So I'm not too optimistic that she'll do great with this song if she performs it live. But yeah, I'll wait for an actual live performance of this song from her before I'd say she was better than Idina.
Idina gave justice to it live so I have to give her credit for that.

ok really? You can't sit there and say she's just loud when you're comparing her to Idina. I mean have you heard Idina's Defying Gravity? Anyone that knows anything about music makes fun of her end to it. At least that I know. And I like her, so it's not just me being a bitch it's just honesty. And If Lea wasn't that great, she wouldn't have been working on broadway since she was like 7. But just to intrigue myself, what did you happen to watch of Lea's?

I saw Lea's live "on My Own" rendition and a live performance of a song from Spring Awakening. Also another song I forgot the title where she looked like she was singing in a club. I dunno, I just wasn't impressed with Lea. Idina has flaws especially in her high notes, but she has other qualities in her singing that I like. Might be due to the fact that Idina has more experience, but then again, Lea is younger with the fresher voice so I weighing those considerations, I still go with Idina.
