Ah...both Shakespeare's original story and this Retold version are simply brilliant, my absolute favorite Shakespearean Comedy (and yes, I include "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Twelfth Night" there) and THE best Shakespearean couple, putting R+J TO SHAME! ;)

i know we don't, but the reason why his work is so great is because of the language...the reason why much ado is one of his greatest comedies is the sharp wit that virtually every line in the play had....i know it's him "retold" but you know? it could have had witty language, which of what i've seen it lacks, MAJORLY...

they COULD have done a modern retelling but kept the language much like the Baz Lurhmann version of R+J...OR rewritten it, BUT with a more modern version of the wit that shakespeare wrote with...the reason why much ado is seen as one of shakespeare's best comedies is that it has a level of high comedy and sophisticated language that THIS very modern interpretation lacks.

Does he say "i feel bad about..." or "i feel mad about..." something? and he says something about "rejected", doesn't he?? And Beatrice? Just ranting on, generally? I'd be so glad if you could help me out with this scene, too...

:) glad to help out. basically he's all being macho and being all manly about it, saying he feels bad about having stood her up, but he's not really, he's just trying to make her feel shit about herself because she got stood up. he really just putting on the sympathetic act to make her feel pathetic.

and she's basically trying to save her dignity going on about how she wasnt that into him anyway. along those lines.
