i think this video does a poor job at demoing the multitasking ability of the palm pre, this is more of a demo of how to open cards and how many you can have open.. a better demo would be to do things in each card and jump back card to card. Example, i use facebook app and jump to webrowser or change music, while keeping cards open.. nice try though, i too have a pre and i love it.

Sorry bro Palm Pre is slow. On occasion it would take longer than usual for an app to load. Even slow to answer or hang up calls switching over when i get a beep! When it counts for instant usage it fails! Also there is no user friendly setup for customizing the phone till you go online to download stuff to make the phone, applicable to what you need. i.e. text and other small things that help you make the phone personally yours. I shouldve bought an iphone. I so wanna sell my phone.

It also shows how bad the touch screen is.

Yes when you first load the app its slower. But after you can switch back and fourth much faster than closing and opening on the 3gs.

who needs to do multi-tasking on a phone with such a small screen, you do that with a laptop. That is why the iphone doesn't do multi tasking, some things just don't look good on such a small screen

From a technical standpoint, it isn't so much as how many apps running as much as it is what apps are running. If I had something to the equivalent of Folding@home or something, then that single app would bring the Pre to a crawl.

However, from a general usage standpoint, 15 is on the high side. 10-15 is a good estimate, I'd say.

I still don't understand the multitasking. The way you had it, it would have taken me ten or twelve swipes to make a phone call. On the iphone, I go home and call. After I call, I immediately can return to where I was in any app. I just don't see the difference for the supposed multitask on the pre. Good job on the video, thanks.

Come on. You didn't use any app. You just flicked sideways in the card view.

Do the same testing acctually using the apps. Loading things, playing some music, taking photos, checking e-mail, loading more webpages, etc.

Sorry buddy, but I don't think anyone would want to watch a 10 minute video of all that crap. This is just a glimpse of what the Pre can do. And no, I wasn't just flicking the cards around, I was FURIOUSLY flicking the cards around, trying to induce slow down. Especially when I was hammering the middle button.

If it loads stuff up this quickly, then common sense tells you the apps will run fine. Nearly 4 minutes is tipping the edge of some people's attention span.

But you don't necessarily need a long video to demonstrate that.

And as for "FURIOUSLY" flicking the cards, it relies more on the video card than in the processor for that. So, not a good example of multitasking performance, since you are just flying textures around, and not making the "head" of the system work.

Fair enough. At least we know the Pre's GPU is no push over. Thanks for the suggestion, however. I will keep that in mind in future tests.

Actually, I made a previous video (which I didn't post), and no, it didn't slow down.

When I first got mine, it tended to lag quite a bit, maybe a good second or two longer than in your video between each application. However, apparently it has been syncing all my information over the past two days, and now is running much smoother, so apparently while updating and syncing it will slow down, but during normal use seems to do fine. Perhaps this too affected my battery life.

Did you also have the 1.0.2 update? But yes, I agree, if you're in the middle of syncing, it will slow down.

Yes, I got the update once I booted up the phone. Doing a stress test today and so far so good, no lag, even while playing connect four ;p
