he is totally right in the end... you need to have the soul and put your own funk into it... having a dj programm and many many many tunes does not make you a dj...
(7) The artificial request to see the contents (as if it was the first time he asked). (8) How ztrip doesnt address the "tag up the bathroom" question (9)How djs have become celebrities (10)"put that badboy up here" (lame) (11)Using the term "cans" (12) Having pens for autograph requests=superEGO (13)Having SOUL and talking about whats in your dj bag (14) Ztrip CANNOT do an orbit.flare scratch/he cant even scratch w/ left hand (15)How ztrip TRIES to downplay his interview WHEN his importance
@ollieill1 I'm not sure if this is a serious question. The point is he has limited "turntable" skills beyond the essentials. He can even spin a record on his index finger!!!!!!! (see carson daly interview). I'd have more respect for him if he won a dmc battle. But, atleast be ambidextrous with the scratch attack. His success is bigger than himself. Rap music made him. He just capitalized on it. But he was born to perform as a dj. I give him credit for his longevity, he deserves his success.
Reason why the dj industry is fucked. (1) ean golden and the significance of a dj bag. (2) Notice how ean attempts to control the interview by attempting to direct ztrip to put his dj bag on the table and how ztrip ignores it. (3) Using the word "illustrious".(4) The sardonic way ztrip disses his interviewers (see aerosal warfare video).(5) Pointing out the graf application of ztrips sharpie markers. (6) z trips dumb tshirt. It's like a childrens' shirt with a Big Bird image but for adult graf
@ollieill1 there is no herb stash pocket, in ztrip's case, because he doesnt smoke pot DESPITE what he says and how he apparently comes off. He doesn't smoke pot. He lived on a hippie commune in New RIver (outside of Phoenix).
@birddogfreemann - Meh, I've never seen him pretend to blaze ganja. I would definitely be sober if I was a DJ of this caliber. Too many things to remember and when you see a drunk/stoned DJ screw up it looks really bad.
Also when you talk shit about somebody you should remove yourself from their nuts first.
@birddogfreemann - You want to debate something, Im down. I'll be in Phoenix next week and we can meet at Mrs. Whites and loser picks up the tab.Bring your tweek money son,I've been known to crush two plates. After I smoke the weed that's in my DJ bag, that is. I crack a joke and you take it literal and use it as a doorway to heap more of your hate on Ztrip. Your jealous and it's obvious. Is Ztrip above criticism?Of course not-Example: Is his style stuck in 1997? Did he steal Tom Sawyer Routine?
@ollieill1 Perhaps, you need to redefine your idea of a "joke". Somehow you thought such a joke would generate amusement amongst fellow dopeheads who gravitate to ztrips music (hip hop atlarge). Please explain why you would even make such a "joke". Where's the association? Obviously, your personal experience dictates that dj bags should have "herb stash pockets" just as skater shoes do. Now that your joke cracking is undergoing scrutiny, explain its significance.
@birddogfreemann Once you have to explain a joke it ceases to be funny. But what the hell. Actually it was more of a joke about this whole "what's in your DJ bag?" series, not particular to Ztrip. What the fuck do you think is in it? Some gear and shit. Therefore it would be funny (to me) if someone pulled out some weed, condoms, or a gun or just something kinda crazy that they are normally hiding. And yes hip hop and rock fans smoke weed so they would get it.
@ollieill1@ollieill1 listen pal, he's given numerous, subtle indicators that he smokes "ganja", to appease the pot smoking fans who listen to his music, giving them a greater connection to his music. You are not a DJ of his caliber, so any presumption would be mere conjecture. What's to remember? How to "rock" a crowd? Don't forget, your initial statement implied that his dj bag should of had a "herb stash pocket", why would you assume such a thing only to later refute the need for one. Meh.
@birddogfreemann-Since you responded twice I'll do the same. I don't care if a DJ smokes weed, murders, rapes, pillages, or plunders. All I care about is what comes out the speakers. James Brown smoked crack, but I'll always love his music. It doesn't mean I support crack. Many creative people are complete assholes. Oh well, that's on them. I didn't know Ztrip couldn't handle the herb and i never noticed him pander to those that do. Either way it doesn't change my opinion of his mixing.
@ollieill1 Now that you've refined your intent (to comment on ztrip's mixing), I will agree with your statement. Experience breeds mastery and in his case, his mixing skills do demonstrate a significant aspect of his commercial success. I will contend, however, that his weakness lies in his musical selection and what he chooses to mix. Mixing is what the commercial club goer want to hear. Hopefully, he will go through a psychedelic phase, it may make him more soulful, more original, etc.
@birddogfreemann Yeah, I don't see that happening with the modern music or originality. He's not the type to turn on a crowd to some new shit like other do. He plays it safe. Even back in the day before he was "famous" he was like that. I can still remember my friend dissing him for that over 12 years ago and he wasn't even a hiphop fan. Nonetheless I find the crossover success amazing, still going strong. Fans who hate scratching like Ztrip. Crazy.
@ollieill1 In pure economic terms, he is a success. But the "new shit" he turned on a crowd was the "mash up". And yes, he plays it REAL safe, now more than ever. He is a pure commodity. Yes, I, also am intrigued by his massive success. I find it interesting to watch it. Well, knowing his sense of humour, he would be a likely candidate for pulling out some condoms (or something comical) BUT what he did try to do is make it ENTERTAINING. That sells, condoms tend to alienate.
Yeah, lets talk about Soul ztrip. Jedi-like. You mean Satan like. You made a pact with the Devil for all your fame and fortune. And this interviewer is a complete douche bag that youve attracted.
@JelaniRobot illustrious. Music has brainwashed ztrip. Satan has his soul. The snowboarding accident (pain) is a small taste of God's wrath and what Satan will demand from you after he has given you everything, fame fortune...

@birddogfreemann unless you know dj z trip personally which neither of us do,,,then stfu about that deal with the devil shit....you dont know this man,,
@birddogfreemann A little over the top don't you think? He found a niche and ran with it. People like his mixes so he gives the fans what they like. I would rather have a Dj such as Ztrip get a little shine then knob twiddlin dance music eurotrash selling out arenas

@birddogfreemann Do you think that Cerrato and Traktor make scratching with left hand nearly irrelevant?
Also I asked Ztrip to sign some vinyl once. So i can slang that shit to some hipster for $100. Cha-ching!
