He sold out all right....to the tune of $20 million plus a year for at least the last three years. Not a bad payday for a "dumb redneck".....Bottom line is that he makes people laugh and how can you fault a guy for that?
Really, people are calling a comedian a sell-out?!?!?!? Thats ALL comedians hope to do, it's not like they're a fucking punk band talking about the DIY ethos then signing to a major label.... These are the guys who TRY to land a shitty sitcom or talk show- thats their career pinnacle!!! God knows theyre not artists or anything- theyre just guys who dont want to work for a living....Calling a comedian a sellout is a COMPLIMENT!! By the way, Santa Claus isnt real either...... fucking idiots.
I think it basically breaks down as; an average white guy from Nebraska that sucks at comedy will fail BUT an ignorant southern redneck that sucks at comedy can become a millionaire
Larry the Cable Guy is an unfunny fraud ... if he was really 'playing an act' then he would go by his real name in interviews just like Sasha Baron Cohen does with his (Ali G, Borat, Bruno) ... so essentially this Redneck idiot actually believes what he says and anyone who called themself a "fan" needs a damn reality check!!! He Sucks - plain and simple !!!
So, Daniel Lawrence Whitney, a red-neck from Nebraska, tries the conventional Radio DJ career with a character who is "southern" and it's funny. His stand-up as himself is the same as every Bob, Tim and Jerry (unless you've seen the stuff they did BEFORE they sold out to Network TV and have recently come back to). He tries his character from his radio days and it's funnier, so he now continues to not be a copy of Paul Reiser to this day.

@OLICIT ... Comedy is one of the purest art forms in existence. The fact that you refer to this broad, unfunny garbage as creative and new just shows how little you know. I bet you enjoy Jeff Dunham, too.
@gabeshedd.......Jeff Dunham is not very well known or popular in Australia where I'm from, but we have a completely different sense of humour in down under. I just think that comedians are talented entertainers and generally are from when they are born. Comedy is about making people laugh, nothing more, nothing less.
Yeah, but by that rationale, most comedians are frauds. For example, Chris Rock's obnoxious, raspy voice is fake. He's like a hellish caricature of a black man. Comedians often base their stage personas on stereotypes.
I'm not a Larry the Cable Guy fan, but how is he a fraud? It's called keeping a persona. Take Stephen Colbert for instance, other than an interview in Rolling Stone, I've never seen or heard Colbert out of character. Is he a fraud too? How about Gilbert Gotfried? He keeps his redneck character because that's his schtick and it makes him money. Like another commenter has said, he's really more of a sellout than a fraud.
hey retards.you dont think theres any redknecks from nebraska.how do you know what your watching wasnt the act.he seems to really enjoy being larry.ive never seen him out of character, even in his interviews.if america made him the #1 comedian, then i guess you are the odd ball for not thinking he is funny.hes flippin hilarious.
many comedians and actors have created stage personas since the beginning of show biz to name a few bobcat goldthwait, sam kinison, gilbert godfried, and even andrew dice clays schtick to an extent was a stage persona.this is really no different and he has never hid the fact that he is dan whitney just watch the larry the cable guy roast and you will hear a few of the comedians refer to him as dan. so saying he is a fraud is stupid, he is a comedian that goes into character when he performs
@acressl Sellout? in order to be considered a sellout you have to had a position that contradicts the lifestyle you live now. So he was a struggling comedian and now he's successful, if that's a sellout sign me up.
How is doing what you like to do and making money doing it being a sellout? Isnt that what alot of people, in one way or another, want? To make money doing what they love to do? Or maybe the people calling him a SELLOUT are just wishing they could find something they love to do and make money doing it? You are no different than my extended family members calling me a sellout because I decided to get an education and an AWESOME career. His job isnt to please the critics!
When he was doing radio he had MANY different characters. People found the SOUTHERN character the funniest, Dan saw that, and he pursued it. If you go to google and take some time to find the articles there is much mor to him than Larry the cable guy, of course people are too lazy and just assume that LARRY THE CABLE GUY is just the way he is all the time.
I don't see why people are so offended, I mean, I only recently found out about his real personality, but I'm not surprised, many actors and comedians have characters, maybe not ones that they've made into an identity, but it's the same idea.
I can't stand his routine. I've never found it amusing, and now seeing his origins as a crappy midwestern comedian I see why. Everyone has a rough time when they're first starting comedy, but christ this is uninspired. Other comedians have put on acts like Andy Kaufman. But they were actually funny and didn't come up with meaningless catch phrases like "Git-r-done" that make stupid people laugh. Andy's experiments with anti-comedy have nothing on what Larry's accomplished.
who the hell cares if he is a fraud? I think he's still hilarious either way! That should be the only thing that matters is that a comedian can make people laugh, whether he needs to use faulty accents, puppets or whatever. Dan incorporates the accent into his acts, just as Jeff Dunham incorporates puppets into his acts. Thats how comedians find ways to make their acts more humorous to people and I think Dan does a pretty damn good job at it. GIT-R-DONE LARRY!!
i enjoy his humor style but im not retarded i LOVE George Carlin, and many others but i think he'd be alot funnier if he dropped the Redneck persona and layed off the GIT R DONE however alot of his materials good like i heard him say once "that was scarier than Janet Reno Coming at me while wearing Lingerie and holding a box of rubbers."
Did anyone think that maybe this was an act and the cable guy routine is closer to the person he actually is? I just listened to an interview where his mom said he worked on a pig farm as a kid... sounds like a redneck to me
@thedoc612 Sir, just because people work on pigfarms don't mean there rednecks. My buddy who was raised in Lincoln, listens to metal/hip-hop, doesn't give a fuck bout hunting, tractors, or ag-life is not a redneck. Maybe your just associating stereotypes.
@teck9hustla "just because people work on pigfarms don't mean there rednecks.... just because people work on pigfarms don't mean there rednecks."
I agree. The definition of a "real" redneck is a hard and honest worker who spends his time doing the dirty work that the "ellite" think is beneath them... their outdoor work often results in a sunburn that is found on the exposed body parts, specifically the neck and hands, though some arms are exposed, too.
Im not a fan of his comedy. But why should we care if he invented a gimmick to sell himself. Stephen Colbert does it and no one complains. It hardly makes him a fraud.
@Neomac316 It's not necessarily the fake accent that bothers me, just the crappy "humor" he delivers with it.
Also, the sad thing is: many people don't realize that Stephen Colbert's character is just that, a character. Many people take Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's word as gospel, without watching it for what it is, comedy.
I think his act is funny, but essentially he is mocking a certain group of people who are too dumb to even realize what's happening. In that sense Larrys act is somewhat immoral and dishonest. But oh well, this 'merica. Get er done
Did you not realize that the "Larry the Cable Guy" thing was an act? He went with what was popular. It's not his fault that society likes what they do.
Wupty fuckin doo. He entertains people. Are you guys gonna make a new video saying that Jeff Dunham is a fraud. "Did you know that those dolls don't actually talk....?".
@Napsmack There's a difference. Nobody thinks Dunham's puppets are real people, but Larry's fans really think he's southern. Yes he's an entertainer, but his fans have no idea he's making fun of them, instead of relating to them.
There's a HUGE difference between being a puppeteer and pretending to be a totally different person, even off stage. Did you see the 60 minute interview with Larry the Cable Guy? He even puts on his fake accent DURING INTERVIEWS.
Playing a part is one thing, but playing that part the rest of your life is totally different.
He created a character that turned out to be a cash cow for him! How can you be down on him for that? Anybody would take full advantage of that type of opportunity. He'd be a fool not to ride that ride for all it's worth!
I'm a fan of George Carlin and i'm a fan of Larry the Cable Guy. Larry isn't an insult to our intelligence, it's just a different kind of humor. Larry's stand up is the type you want to hear like late at night or when you're just relaxing on a lazy day. Also, I just find him to be entertaining. I wouldn't go so far as to call him a 'fraud'.
LOL, although I am not a fan of his comedy-- which is pretty lame-- I don't think he is a "fraud." On his wikipedia page I read:
"A part of Whitney's routine is his affected Southern accent. HE SAYS IN INTERVIEWS and in his autobiographical book GIT-R-DONE that he deliberately "turns on" the accent both on and off stage, because he may forget it if he kept his normal accent intact."
So it seems he admits that his lame act is in fact an act.
He's a pretty good entertainer. Not on the level of Lewis Black, George Carlin etc. but I think every southern and or country person has a family member just like his character. That's what makes it funny. No matter how cultured a country person has grown to be...we can still relate to this brand of comedy. He's not hilarious..but funny.
i hope you idiots realize that Larry the Cable Guy is an act that he puts on, hints his jokes, and ect. they are all apart of his act. maybe you should do his history before you ignorant fucks write something.
Last I remember he said he never has denied that the Larry the Cable Guy is a persona act (i.e. person, voice, mannerisms, etc) . Just like Gilbert Gottfried's on-air voice is nothing like his real voice. Also I think Carrot Top uses a stage voice and persona
LTCG is just utilizing the whole thing. If you don't like it - Don't watch!
Why would you call him a fraud. He's an entertainer. He created a character and made it entertaining. That's called being a professional. The fact that you called him a "fraud" illustrates how well he's presented it.
I will agree that he is not one of the greats of comedy, but he has ADMITTED that he PURPOSELY keeps the accent on and off stage so that he doesnt forget to turn it on while he is on stage performing. The accent is part of his comedy act, and he has been very successful so haters can keep hating.
Not everything a comic says is true...he just took it to a greater extent and in interviews he talks in his normal voice and even says its an act...lemme try something out, IF YOU BELIEVE THAT LARRY THE CABLE GUY IS A REDNECK AND EVERYTHING A COMEDIAN SAYS IS REAL, YOU MIGHT BE A BACKWOODS RETARD
He's technically not a fraud since you can find interviews of him everywhere of him out of character, he admits he's not a real redneck, but he's still funny to a lot of people. He's a smart business man really. Plus you don't have to be stupid to like his jokes, my mom and her boyfriend are really smart people (like 150+ IQ) but because they're families were a bit hick-ish they still find the jokes hilarious.
To all of the people who do not like him and/or think that he is a fraud:
If you do not like him then why are you getting on YouTube and looking him up? Does that not show that you you have less intelligence than the guy that you are bashing? Because it does. Not only that but people like him because the majority of Americans have ties to rednecks and they think that it is funny since it really is funny. So if you don't like it, then don't watch it. Bitch.
@LordAngus1992 Anyone who's watched his roast knows he's just a character, he broke character once or twice and people even made references to the fact that his persona isn't real. I knew it even before that, it's pretty obvious to tell when someone's being themselves on stage or just acting so they can exploit dumb fucks.
I don't think this means he's a fraud. The fact of the matter is that, as as comedian and actor, he plays a character. That's all. I'm not sure why so many people are bent on believing that his character is real. This is only an illusion, like most others in his line of work.
I am loving the perm mullet! He is from Nebraska, then moved to Florida as a teen.Hardly a southern boy Must have researched rednecks for his comedy "act". Even if it is an act, it would be better if he were truly a redneck or from the south. I would say that makes him a fraud, because most comedians jokes are based on what they know and lived.
I first was exposed to him when he was on the radio in the midwestern market and I LOVED HIM. I never laughed so hard as at his first album. Since he has become associated with this whole "redneck" comedy thing and especicially since he has started toeing the dumbass conservative agenda I can't stand his act.
But say what you will. If you were a small town southeast Nebraska boy who made millions of dollars putting on a east Texas accent and catering to the lowest common denominator, would you stop the gravy train? I have never known him personally, but I know friends who have, and we know the difference between a person and a personna.
If you follow comedy at all, you know what a rough game it is to make it in stand-up.
Most guys would give their eye teeth to find a schtick that works as well with the du-masses as well as Larry's has. Not everyone can be a Pyror, Carlin or Bruce, let alone an Attell, Oswalt, CK or whoever.
The fact is he created a successful character and was in the right place at the right time and became a success. That's a true American success story if I ever heard one.
Its not that he's a true fraud. Its that 99% of the bumb ass rednecks who idolize him think hes true red neck. Rednecks are real bad about sticking to what they think is true. Rednecks dont like to admit they are wrong. But really they are supporting this white collar poser.
"Yall" rednecks can love this guy all you want. But the dude is no redneck.
Yeah, I didn't know this previously, but this guy is a dumbass. He is no fraud, he is one of the greatest commedians on the earth. You should be dead.
He's a disgrace to comedy as an art. He does an hour of shit & fart jokes that a fucking pre-schooler could come up with and hes the #1 comedian in the country. His success is a direct result of the stupidity of Americans. Compare him to George Carlin or Richard Pryor and get back to me. git r done...
@zacman50 ...wow... it's just entertainment, dude. Take it easy. ...and, uh, you live in America (at least your profile says so)... so big ambiguous statements about "Americans" as a collective group means you too... whether you like Larry or not. Switch to decaf, man... settle down (btw, I don't particularly like his comedy either... but not sure it is worth popping a vein in the forehead over it)
Fraud? You idiot. Larry the Cable Guy is a CHARACTER! The guy's name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney. If you saw a video of Martin Short, would you say Ed Grimley was a fraud?
they did a big special on him on 60 minutes and he never said ONE fucking thing about putting an accent on or how Larry the cable guy is just a "character". He just showed up on a 4-wheeler in his sleeveless shirt and laid on his thick backwoods accent for 20 minutes desperately trying to look like hes serious
except he never gets out of character, every movie he is in he pretends to be a redneck. while Martin Short has played in several movies never pretending to still be Grimley, this guy has convinced the masses that he is a redneck. if this truly were just a character he would be himself in public and in movies rather than always portraying Larry and deceiving everyone, therefore he is indeed a fraud.
@yamahonda450 correct! even gilbert godfreid has been heard out of character a few times, and would admit he has a character. larry on the other hand is a fraud.
@yamahonda450 he is a redneck in the movies because that's what people want to see. Nobody wants to see him be himself, that's not what made him famous. So don't bad mouth people you don't understand.
@yamahonda450 Are prank-artists frauds as well? Also, how do you define "being yourself?" Perhaps this on-stage persona is, in fact, his facade. The fact is, if we are to call Larry the Cable Guy a fraud, then let's call Dick Masterson a fraud too. I suppose the satire of Gulliver's Travels was also a fraud. Is Obama a fraud for going to speech therapy classes to remove his ebonic accent?
Just because he duped the American people does not mean he's a fraud, even if his stand-up is shit.
@yamahonda450 Not true. Gilbert Godfried, Bob Goldthwait, & the late Sam Kinison never broke character in public or in movies. Godfried even does the voice on Aflec commercials & in cartoons.
And while the accent is fake, Dan did grow up on a pig farm in Nebraska.
But I agree he sucks-just like pop music and "reality" TV shows that are all scripted. The worse something is, the more popular it becomes-& not just in America. Remember the Spice Girls? Celine Dion? Soccer? None are from here!
He found something that worked for him and ran with it....it's called business sense not being a sellout.

TheCovenantProgress 5 months ago
hey retards.you dont think theres any redknecks from nebraska.how do you know what your watching wasnt the act.he seems to really enjoy being larry.ive never seen him out of character, even in his interviews.if america made him the #1 comedian, then i guess you are the odd ball for not thinking he is funny.hes flippin hilarious.
markprater72 5 months ago
many comedians and actors have created stage personas since the beginning of show biz to name a few bobcat goldthwait, sam kinison, gilbert godfried, and even andrew dice clays schtick to an extent was a stage persona.this is really no different and he has never hid the fact that he is dan whitney just watch the larry the cable guy roast and you will hear a few of the comedians refer to him as dan. so saying he is a fraud is stupid, he is a comedian that goes into character when he performs
swiftsplift 5 months ago
Its funny, as bad as he is , he has gotten a lot better than he was then. And to be honest he has made me laugh a couple of times.
TheChoada 6 months ago
So wait.....he also used to be not funny? Total eye opener.
He's just a performer. The only thing he's really guilty of is allowing success to taint whatever integrity he had as an artist.
He tried something a little different with his persona of Larry. It got over. He lost sight of what it was he set out to do and now makes money.
In my book, that's a sellout, not a fraud.
If people are too dumb to realize that it's an act, that's on them.
acressl 6 months ago 13
@acressl He isn't funny now either, Git R Done is the worst catchphrase ever
KeithHartranft 2 months ago
@acressl Sellout? in order to be considered a sellout you have to had a position that contradicts the lifestyle you live now. So he was a struggling comedian and now he's successful, if that's a sellout sign me up.
RamirezRoyalty 1 month ago 2
@RamirezRoyalty A valid point.......FROM SOMEONE ON YOUTUBE!?!? Now THAT'S funny.
acressl 1 month ago
@acressl why do you assume that his original goal wasn't to make money? And how does making a funny persona make him a sellout?
soccerbs60 4 weeks ago
@acressl
His job isnt to please the critics!
deleond2 3 weeks ago
@acressl
When he was doing radio he had MANY different characters. People found the SOUTHERN character the funniest, Dan saw that, and he pursued it. If you go to google and take some time to find the articles there is much mor to him than Larry the cable guy, of course people are too lazy and just assume that LARRY THE CABLE GUY is just the way he is all the time.
deleond2 3 weeks ago
I don't see why people are so offended, I mean, I only recently found out about his real personality, but I'm not surprised, many actors and comedians have characters, maybe not ones that they've made into an identity, but it's the same idea.
TopherTramonte 6 months ago

terri414725 6 months ago
I can't stand his routine. I've never found it amusing, and now seeing his origins as a crappy midwestern comedian I see why. Everyone has a rough time when they're first starting comedy, but christ this is uninspired. Other comedians have put on acts like Andy Kaufman. But they were actually funny and didn't come up with meaningless catch phrases like "Git-r-done" that make stupid people laugh. Andy's experiments with anti-comedy have nothing on what Larry's accomplished.
logick0 6 months ago
who the hell cares if he is a fraud? I think he's still hilarious either way! That should be the only thing that matters is that a comedian can make people laugh, whether he needs to use faulty accents, puppets or whatever. Dan incorporates the accent into his acts, just as Jeff Dunham incorporates puppets into his acts. Thats how comedians find ways to make their acts more humorous to people and I think Dan does a pretty damn good job at it. GIT-R-DONE LARRY!!
mcgiggity69 6 months ago
He was born in Nebraska. He's got some credit as a redneck, even if he is a bit of a fraud.
YesitsKendra 6 months ago
i enjoy his humor style but im not retarded i LOVE George Carlin, and many others but i think he'd be alot funnier if he dropped the Redneck persona and layed off the GIT R DONE however alot of his materials good like i heard him say once "that was scarier than Janet Reno Coming at me while wearing Lingerie and holding a box of rubbers."
i found that pretty damn funny

breeeegs 6 months ago
Did anyone think that maybe this was an act and the cable guy routine is closer to the person he actually is? I just listened to an interview where his mom said he worked on a pig farm as a kid... sounds like a redneck to me
thedoc612 7 months ago
@thedoc612 Sir, just because people work on pigfarms don't mean there rednecks. My buddy who was raised in Lincoln, listens to metal/hip-hop, doesn't give a fuck bout hunting, tractors, or ag-life is not a redneck. Maybe your just associating stereotypes.
teck9hustla 6 months ago
@teck9hustla "just because people work on pigfarms don't mean there rednecks.... just because people work on pigfarms don't mean there rednecks."
I agree. The definition of a "real" redneck is a hard and honest worker who spends his time doing the dirty work that the "ellite" think is beneath them... their outdoor work often results in a sunburn that is found on the exposed body parts, specifically the neck and hands, though some arms are exposed, too.

Zac, Richard Prior was probably the most over-rated comedian in history. Mother F%&#er isn't a joke.
therealeben 7 months ago
Im not a fan of his comedy. But why should we care if he invented a gimmick to sell himself. Stephen Colbert does it and no one complains. It hardly makes him a fraud.
Neomac316 7 months ago
@Neomac316 It's not necessarily the fake accent that bothers me, just the crappy "humor" he delivers with it.
Also, the sad thing is: many people don't realize that Stephen Colbert's character is just that, a character. Many people take Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's word as gospel, without watching it for what it is, comedy.
jxl180 7 months ago
@jxl180 True. I hate this "Git her done" crap too. Stewart and Colbert are just that good....
Neomac316 7 months ago
I think his act is funny, but essentially he is mocking a certain group of people who are too dumb to even realize what's happening. In that sense Larrys act is somewhat immoral and dishonest. But oh well, this 'merica. Get er done

wingnutofcoolness 5 months ago
@Napsmack There's a difference. Nobody thinks Dunham's puppets are real people, but Larry's fans really think he's southern. Yes he's an entertainer, but his fans have no idea he's making fun of them, instead of relating to them.
brodieman37 3 months ago 3
@Napsmack

KyleSnider51 7 months ago
Plus, I've never seen steven colbert out of character either, it doesn't mean he's a "fraud," it's just that it's an act.
IndividualParties 8 months ago
LOL, although I am not a fan of his comedy-- which is pretty lame-- I don't think he is a "fraud." On his wikipedia page I read:
"A part of Whitney's routine is his affected Southern accent. HE SAYS IN INTERVIEWS and in his autobiographical book GIT-R-DONE that he deliberately "turns on" the accent both on and off stage, because he may forget it if he kept his normal accent intact."
So it seems he admits that his lame act is in fact an act.
IndividualParties 8 months ago
He's a pretty good entertainer. Not on the level of Lewis Black, George Carlin etc. but I think every southern and or country person has a family member just like his character. That's what makes it funny. No matter how cultured a country person has grown to be...we can still relate to this brand of comedy. He's not hilarious..but funny.

If you don't like it - Don't watch!
macky592 8 months ago 2
Why would you call him a fraud. He's an entertainer. He created a character and made it entertaining. That's called being a professional. The fact that you called him a "fraud" illustrates how well he's presented it.
Magicjax 8 months ago 11
I will agree that he is not one of the greats of comedy, but he has ADMITTED that he PURPOSELY keeps the accent on and off stage so that he doesnt forget to turn it on while he is on stage performing. The accent is part of his comedy act, and he has been very successful so haters can keep hating.
shSam92 8 months ago
Not everything a comic says is true...he just took it to a greater extent and in interviews he talks in his normal voice and even says its an act...lemme try something out, IF YOU BELIEVE THAT LARRY THE CABLE GUY IS A REDNECK AND EVERYTHING A COMEDIAN SAYS IS REAL, YOU MIGHT BE A BACKWOODS RETARD
ShredWithMe 11 months ago 2
He's technically not a fraud since you can find interviews of him everywhere of him out of character, he admits he's not a real redneck, but he's still funny to a lot of people. He's a smart business man really. Plus you don't have to be stupid to like his jokes, my mom and her boyfriend are really smart people (like 150+ IQ) but because they're families were a bit hick-ish they still find the jokes hilarious.
lionslicer9999 11 months ago
@lionslicer9999 your mom is fucking stupid. her IQ is no where near 150 if she likes this shit. stop making shit up about your dumb family

lionslicer9999 8 months ago
To all of the people who do not like him and/or think that he is a fraud:
If you do not like him then why are you getting on YouTube and looking him up? Does that not show that you you have less intelligence than the guy that you are bashing? Because it does. Not only that but people like him because the majority of Americans have ties to rednecks and they think that it is funny since it really is funny. So if you don't like it, then don't watch it. Bitch.

LordAngus1992 11 months ago
@LordAngus1992 Anyone who's watched his roast knows he's just a character, he broke character once or twice and people even made references to the fact that his persona isn't real. I knew it even before that, it's pretty obvious to tell when someone's being themselves on stage or just acting so they can exploit dumb fucks.
Gregd8888 11 months ago
I don't think this means he's a fraud. The fact of the matter is that, as as comedian and actor, he plays a character. That's all. I'm not sure why so many people are bent on believing that his character is real. This is only an illusion, like most others in his line of work.

Since he has become associated with this whole "redneck" comedy thing and especicially since he has started toeing the dumbass conservative agenda I can't stand his act.
matogato 3 years ago
But say what you will. If you were a small town southeast Nebraska boy who made millions of dollars putting on a east Texas accent and catering to the lowest common denominator, would you stop the gravy train? I have never known him personally, but I know friends who have, and we know the difference between a person and a personna.
matogato 3 years ago
If you follow comedy at all, you know what a rough game it is to make it in stand-up.
Most guys would give their eye teeth to find a schtick that works as well with the du-masses as well as Larry's has. Not everyone can be a Pyror, Carlin or Bruce, let alone an Attell, Oswalt, CK or whoever.

they did a big special on him on 60 minutes and he never said ONE fucking thing about putting an accent on or how Larry the cable guy is just a "character". He just showed up on a 4-wheeler in his sleeveless shirt and laid on his thick backwoods accent for 20 minutes desperately trying to look like hes serious
zacman50 3 years ago 2
except he never gets out of character, every movie he is in he pretends to be a redneck. while Martin Short has played in several movies never pretending to still be Grimley, this guy has convinced the masses that he is a redneck. if this truly were just a character he would be himself in public and in movies rather than always portraying Larry and deceiving everyone, therefore he is indeed a fraud.
yamahonda450 3 years ago 32
@yamahonda450 correct! even gilbert godfreid has been heard out of character a few times, and would admit he has a character. larry on the other hand is a fraud.
KritikalDimensions 1 year ago
@yamahonda450 he is a redneck in the movies because that's what people want to see. Nobody wants to see him be himself, that's not what made him famous. So don't bad mouth people you don't understand.
bonnielea14 1 year ago
@yamahonda450 Are prank-artists frauds as well? Also, how do you define "being yourself?" Perhaps this on-stage persona is, in fact, his facade. The fact is, if we are to call Larry the Cable Guy a fraud, then let's call Dick Masterson a fraud too. I suppose the satire of Gulliver's Travels was also a fraud. Is Obama a fraud for going to speech therapy classes to remove his ebonic accent?
Just because he duped the American people does not mean he's a fraud, even if his stand-up is shit.
gotaids 1 year ago
@yamahonda450 Not true. Gilbert Godfried, Bob Goldthwait, & the late Sam Kinison never broke character in public or in movies. Godfried even does the voice on Aflec commercials & in cartoons.
And while the accent is fake, Dan did grow up on a pig farm in Nebraska.
But I agree he sucks-just like pop music and "reality" TV shows that are all scripted. The worse something is, the more popular it becomes-& not just in America. Remember the Spice Girls? Celine Dion? Soccer? None are from here!
