  • you think that was messed up?

you should see American McGee's take on this story..........real fucked up.

  • Capitalism in a nutshell, or rather an oyster shell.

  • I am the walrus in the play my year are doing and my best friend is the carpenter I really wanted the Queen of Hearts but one of my other best friends got it and my other best friend got the duchess (the white queen) ;(

  • While we were watching "Wheel Of Fortune," it was the final spin, phrase style. The answer? "THE TIME HAS COME". "The time has come, the walrus said," and my mind came into view. This gives me a big reminder, and he gave me a recap, too. You'll be glad you uploaded this, Neclea, my old friend. Long live The Walrus and the Carpenter, until the very end!

  • Obama and his supporters...

  • @AmericanRally Except for old mother oyster and I guess the carpenter to an extent.

  • Thumbs up for AVGN :D

  • This is how you tell a story within the story

  • @ThisCakeIsAPie U can't miss avgn fan when u see one

  • @Battery206781 "U" also can't miss someone who can't the spell the simple word "you"

  • Why is the R highlighted on the calendar?

  • @SuperRandomDucky The old saying is that one should only eat an oyster during the months spelled with an "R".

  • @riin1979 thanks, I was wondering what was so important about the R.

  • why is the carpenter angry @ 4:53

  • @benderrocks01 The walrus ate all the oysters that the Carpenter thought they were going to share.

  • @ThePlottingPanda

    Never trust talking Walrus's.

  • @scorchx3000 Especially if you want a share of his walking flirtatious oysters with shell bonnets.

  • It is obvious (at least to anyone who has studied the cause of social injustice within the capitalist economic system) that the relationship between the walrus and the carpenter mimics the middle and working classes. One can afford to borrow money and employ those who do the actual physical work, while paying low wages and keeping the profit, and oysters, to themselve. Capitalist apologists may consider this portrayal as simply intended to amuse, but the moral is clear: it favours rich folk!

  • So... Is there supposed to be like a moral of the story or something?

  • @lemob182 Don't follow walruses out of the ocean for lunch.

  • lol look at the oyster on the top at 1:54. he's doin the "say what?" face

  • I am surprised that Disney kept this scene in or at the very least didn't change it so that the Oysters got away seeing as how this is Disney we are talking about.

  • @pkstarstorm1up yes, but this is the OLD disney here, when they had TONS of controversy in their movies

  • @pkstarstorm1up this is the old school disney, when it wasnt about singing teens in high school

  • @gwarriorfromhell I still wish that they had changed the story so that the Oysters lived and were reunited with their mother.

  • 3:14 to 3:21.

DAMN! It only took 7 seconds to build the restaurant!

  • LSD trips.....they made the beatles write a song about the walrus, all the while thinking that it was the good guy.

  • For some reason this scared me as a little kid.

  • @sermongirl DUDE. The Tweedles creeped me out so much.

  • @sermongirl Same here. :/

  • Screw common test tmr... Else i won't be watching this stupid video.

  • Bastardizing Walruses !

  • Was the Walrus crying or did eating all of those oysters make his eyes water I think he was full

  • ;_;

  • Eat the bread instead :c

  • Man, the Walrus is an asshole.

  • @TheSpiralDownward why do you think that?

  • @offtosiberia The walrus gets all of the credit for the Carpenter's work. Look at @mrfivegold's comments. :3

  • OK, msfiregold, I get your point. You are reacting to the Disney interpretation, the Lewis Carroll was my point of reference. Carroll was aiming at Capitalists. Disney was not.

  • When he rubs his belly it scares me idk why. :c 4:33

  • @shaunasaidWHAT because he ate baby oysters. Living talking children of the sea.

  • @mrfivegold I always shit myself anyway. :B

  • @shaunasaidWHAT It is pretty saddening for the predator to eat his short lived companion espcially one that talk and of course it is scare since we are that close to animals so it could be a inner fear of being eaten yourself.

  • @mrfivegold maybe so... I guess it tells you to look out for strangers too!

  • @shaunasaidWHAT Thats the obvious message, But all kids/childrens shows have under meanings to sell products and political agenda's.

  • The Walrus is in typical homeless or "bum" clothing and the Carpenter is the typical working American. He does all the work and the Walrus "the poor" gets most but in this case all of the reward. To give the kids the impression that the homeless do not deserve any reward for their efforts.

  • @mrfivegold The Walrus is the typical Capitalist, other than that, you have most of the metaphor right. The Carpenter does the work, The Capitalist eats the work product. I will give you the Disney concept showing the Walrus "gathering" the oysters, but that's Disney, Not Lewis Carroll.

  • @FirstEDEKIT I am talking about the Disney metaphor. And now I do not believe he is a captialist due to his shabby outlook. I mean have you known a captialist to look so shabby? Besides he seems a little to anxious to get out of work.

  • pause at 4:25 and the Walrus makes a funny face you may have to time it right

  • This Walrus is still scarier than the American McGee version.

  • oysters are like children. if u dont listen to your mom about leaving with strangers, the strangers will do more than eat you!

  • what are the lyrics?!

  • Crack!!!

  • there cute :')

  • 4:11 such a mastery!

  • @tigerqueen007 How did your comment get marked as spam!? You have a point!

  • i like the madness version better

  • Am I supposed to watch movie this while high?

  • Thats a look of true evil at 2:20.

  • J. Pat O'Malley -

Is it fair to call him England's answer to Mel Blanc?

  • This is, of course, not the original poem, but this scene begat my great love for the original. ♥

"The time has come," the Walrus said,

    "To talk of many things:

    Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--

    Of cabbages--and kings--

And why the sea is boiling hot--

    And whether pigs have wings."

  • this is why you listen to ur mother!!!

  • it seems as though the time has come to beat a walrus to death with a hammer...

  • The time has come to talk of other things. Like shoes and ships kings. And beating up one fat fuck who couldnt wait 5 seconds for his friend to come back out of the pantry.

  • Stupid walrus :(

  • never thught i would say this in my life but them clams are CUTE

  • I use to like carpenters until I saw this, sorry Jesus :(

  • Disney teaches kids to follow strangers :O

  • Why didn't Disney give the walrus tusks? I mean, aren't tusks the one defining feature of the walrus? A walrus without tusks is like an elephant without a trunk!

  • So... The Walrus is Corporations, the Oysters are the ignorant people, and the Carpenter is the working class?

  • Awww, Shucks! The little oysters got eaten.

  • im a sucker for the line and this was odd because it was the middle of the night:P dont know why i just love how it sounds xxxx

  • ohmygosh the walrus' face at 1:27

    haha :3

  • A perfect metaphor for the 2008 financial industry collapse.

  • @SASardonic Not sure I get it.

  • does anyone know the real name of the guy who provided the voice for the walrus?...

  • turn on the captions :L

  • @Phantomhive20

Actually, I watched this because of 'I am The Walrus' by the Beatles 8)

  • 4:50 got me scared everytime.. 3:

  • Although this movie is a timeless classic, thumbs up if you watched this clip all because of Walrus and Carpenter from Madness Returns?

  • thats fucked

  • Y'know, it was this Lewis Carroll poem (not the song directly, but the poem itself) that inspired John Lennon to write "I Am The Walrus" as a part of their Magical Mystery Tour album. I guess both Lennon and Carroll were creative and literary geniuses!

  • When I was little and I watched this for the first time, I cryed so much for the oysters

  • @FrauKaulitz1 You should see what the walrus does to the oysters in Alice Madness Returns...

  • @tonysoccerboy im gonna regret this xD but...what dose he do exacly?

  • Comment removed

  • @thebigj3 He cuts them down with a scythe and eats them, you can see the "blood" splatter around ;3

  • This was nor funny. This was terrifying. -_-

  • I used to absolutely love this story... Now... Poor liddle oysters!!! :'(

  • I'm not the enemy you seek, Alice! I tried to hide this bit of Wonderland from that beast! A peacement's never clean! We must all play our assigned roles! Are you a pawn or a queen? An idiot or a practised fool? However this turns out, consider the prospect, that you've been mislead, Alice! And then ask, by whom?

    ~Carpenter~

  • Dam nature! You scary!

  • This scene always scared me as a child. At least, Tweedle Dee and Dum did.

  • After this I didn't eat an oyster for a whole 5 months XD

(I would also cry if mom made any)

  • @Masterx9o

Try doing that for your whole life, becoming vegetarian for years, and finally accepting seafood back in years later. And then STILL regarding Carroll as a champion of the lower of class, as well as Tenniel. Babes.

  • @Masterx9o

    I thought those were clams...

  • reminds me of the Mythbusters duo

  • @Pikazilla haha i completely agree!!

  • I wish I'd honk when someone hit me...

  • The transcribed captions make about as much sense as this entire clip...

  • I always loved this bit during the movie. It was my favorite movie that Disney put out, though :P

  • reminds me of pinocchio this little walrus story, thumbs up if u agree

  • My cousin always asked me to perform this for her friends...

  • Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb have always creeped me out. x

  • I used to think this was hilarious when I was younger but now that I'm older I realize how disturbing it actually is...

  • these two used to scare me! lol

  • Next time someone asks me to do something Im gonna say "THE TIME HAS COME TO talk of other things..."

  • "Well, uhhh...haha...haha...haha...Ahem, uhh...THE TIME HAS COME! *smash*

    ROFL XD

  • moral of the story: YOU CANT TRUST THE SYSTEM.

  • You should see the Walrus and Carpenters new show!

  • The time has come. That's his catchphrase

  • No work today!!

  • Have you ever wondered...What happened to the Walrus and the Carpenter? watch?v=vUquwphutXo

  • these basicly tells u not to wonder off with perverts lol

  • @209BluntSmoker CUZ YOU'LL GET RAPED, OR WORSE, EATEN.

  • CAbbages and Kiiiiiiings!!!

  • Man i felt sorry for the Oysters

  • I don't get why the carpenter was mad at the walrus for eating the oysters i thought it was the carpenter's idea in the first place to eat them

  • @DiscoLuck The walrus left him none! lol

  • Comment removed

  • bang bang maxwells silver hammer came down on the walru's head

  • this segment sinks up perfectly with pink floyd's "mother"

  • @Omnywrench

Because he couldn't eat any children (oysters). He was hungry

  • Now, at the end when the Carpenter got angry and started chasing the Walrus- is he mad because the Walrus just killed and ate two dozen children, or because the Walrus didn't save any for him?

  • @Omnywrench Becaue the Walrus didn't save any for him. :/

  • this always makes me hungry

  • howcome the carpenter has an aussie accent when he's singing about peppercorns and mustard seed and he's voiced by the same guy who voiced the Walrus as well as Tweedledee and Tweedledum?

  • @er10b It's all part of voice acting. A VO needs to have a wide range to be sucessful.

  • 1:24 is Kirby's theme

  • People try to put meaning into this. Religious criticism, political criticism.

Nay, I say. It's simply a poem to be enjoyed.

  • I am the liquor.

  • I like how in Alice Madness Returns the Carpenter is smarter and that the walrus is his bitch, instead of the other way around xp

And how the Walrus eats all those freaking oysters, man. c:

  • BEST

    STORY

    EVA!!

  • So the walrus gets the carpenter to find for him. I really can't help but think that the walrus didn't even need the carpenter for that since he was able to lure the oysters away on his own. Implying that he would have shared with the carpenter just gave him a reason to hate the walrus. idk

  • I think the Walrus keeps banging on about Cabbages and Kings because, although completely different, neither a cabbage nor a king has to do a day's work in their respective lives. (Clearly the Walrus is adversed to hard work) Yet, the Walrus is the smart one in this adaptation. The Carpenter is a hard worker, but has little brains, ending that the Walrus takes advantage of him too. (This is just my interpretation...)

Saw this is a local cinema yesterday. Totally Epic. :)

  • @SciFireZero but what exactly would be the correct interpretation?

  • @SciFireZero oh hey :)

so i read the actual passages from the looking glass... chapter 4.

it was quite different from this video. in the book, the carpenter eats them as well!

  • @SciFireZero though maybe this video was pointing out that they said 'we will eat like cabbages and kings!'

the carpenter ate none like the cabbage, the walrus ate them all like a king.

ok that will be my last response haha ;)

  • 1:27 the walrus must really like the taste of water

  • There is a moral to this story especially for Alice. Don't talk to strangers especially dirty old walrus.

  • When I watched this part, I felt that the Walrus sounded a lot like Sir Ector from the Disney film "The Sword in the Stone", but I soon found out that the Walrus is voiced by J. Pat O' Malley, while Sir Ector is voiced by Sebastian Cabot.

  • The Walrus reminds me of Doug Dimadome ....

  • Hee hee, it took me years to get the middle of the night thing XD

  • But Mother Oyster winked her eye

    And shook her hairy head

    She knew too well

This was no time to leave her Oyster bed

    "The sea is nice,

    Take my advice

And stay right here," Mum said

  • why does the r from march light up red?

  • @EliteCitrus Because of the seasons that have an "R" like spRing summeR and winteR

  • @1218dtnb1 but march isnt a season

im stupid and still dont get it.

  • @EliteCitrus The reason the R lights up red is that it is said that oysters taste the best in months with the letter

'R'. May, June, July and August the ocean temp is higher, so oysters gathered then don't taste the best. September - April is the best.

  • @MattAShine thanks, that made the most sense of the answers.

  • @MattAShine I never knew that! Thanks for that information!

  • @EliteCitrus It's because there is an old memory trick to tell you when not to eat oysters (unless you know they are very fresh) - you shouldn't eat them in the months that don't have the letter 'r' in the name (May, June, July, August) because in summer oysters spoil quickly and can make you sick.

  • @vielsu finally, a good answer, thankyou:)

  • Walrus Is Underwater Oysters

  • Comment removed

  • Why do I not remember this part...?

  • Comment removed

  • "Little oysters! Little oysters!" "But answer, there came none. And this was scarcely odd because...they'd been eaten...everyone." :( Poor little oysters.

  • I am the Walrus.

  • I can't believe when Lewis Caroll wrote this poem, he was critisizing religion, because the walrus represents Hinduism because the elephant god Ganesha has a pot belly and tusks, while the carpenter represents Christianity because Jesus was a carpenter.

  • @roseypop1250 No, that is Kevin Smith's interpretation of the poem which you blatantly stole from the film "Dogma"

Did you really think no one would notice, you foolish mortal!?

  • @roseypop1250 He wasn't, you've been reading too much wikipedia. Even that states it's more likely to refer to economics not religion.

If he wanted to mark religion he'd use a damn elephant. If jesus was literally a carpenter there's no reason to be vague for one and not the other. Your statement is totally backwards.

  • I've always thought this scene was fucked up cause they eat babies

  • in the 1992 film the walrus is the idiot and the Carpenter is the greedy jerk. :P

idk if you have in the video select a vid call polar vs walrus. that what happen after the greedy walrus ran away... the carpenter film it lol.

  • We're savages and kings! one my favorite scenes

  • i would have put some hot sauce, salt and lime on those oysters. yummy

  • I looked it up because the walrus' voice sounds like Colonel Hathi in the Jungle Book and found out that this whole sequence (including tweedledee/dum) was voiced by one guy. J. Pat O'Malley.

  • @hottie111799 Actually if you are familiar with ANY of Lewis Carroll's work, you would know good and well that the Oysters were eaten by the Walrus, the Carpenter was enraged because he never got any. You are correct that the text is different, why they couldn't recite the poem verbatim is because they only had a budget of 3.5 million and they couldn't fit EVERYthing in. But gulls are never mentioned in the poem and the clip does have the moral. So your understanding is very very wrong.

  • This is a very good adaptation of the original whimsical narrative by Lewis Carroll. Of course a prefer the original text. Besides this is the only version with CALLOO CALHAY NO WORK TODAY, LIKE CABBAGES AND KINGS! I love that.

  • This always made me hungry...

  • uhh, walruses have tusks...that is just an obeese seal.

  • @randomactsok

He traded them in for a mad 'stache!!

  • 1951 was an especially bad year to be on drugs, I assume.

  • Tweedle Dee: You know there's a moral to that story...

Alice: I suppose so, if you happen to be an oyster.

Ha ha. That's the best response to moralizing I've ever heard.

  • @AuspexAO I totally agree. :)

  • I've always wondered, why does the 'R' in March flash when Mother Oyster realizes that it's too dangerous to leave?
